Seeing that this has 40+ Spins on Alt.
I might as well make a thread about it. Even though it doesn't have an official adds date.

How many stations though? My hunch is that 1, maybe 2 stations are playing it in total.

^Actually thought they were playin Adam Lambert's cover of Mad World (still pretty ridiculous for Alt. station, but at least the original was by Tears For Fears and the Gary Jewels remake charted on AAA and HAC)

Even though I admit I love Adam's voice, this song is crappola....I'm more looking forward to seeing what he does with better material. He's easily the best vocalist AI has ever seen.

This song probably won't do much anyway, but hopefully stuff off his debut album will chart well on Alternative. I can definitley see it happening.

Well, if this is getting airplay then why can't a proper "rock" song released by Lambert do well? And i'm sure they'll be a few harder tracks on his debut.

He's going to probably wind up being like David Cook in the sense that he'll have rock songs on the album, but they won't be rock enough to sustain regular play.

Just curious if you actually have heard him sing??? Honestly, this guy blows nearly every rock singer of this generation out of the water. No, I'm not even exaggerating and I'm not a young fanboy, lol.
He will end up on rock radio because that's (apparently) where he wants to be. He's miles and miles above David Cook. Of course in the end it comes down to material but considering he already has a deep background in music he knows where he wants it to go AND he doesn't have to be the AI winner and be stuck with ho-hum material to try and be made into a pop star.

Well, David Cook could have been on rock radio but his material hasn't been very good- it all comes down to the songs- and that is what Adam will rise or fall with as well.

No, I'm not even exaggerating and I'm not a young fanboy, lol. He's got a great classic rock voice. I think it'd suit him perfectly to be the lead singer of Queen. However, I don't think that's going to happen and I don't think he's going to be a classic rocker. I just don't see him doing much on this format. I can't imagine too many Idols (aside from Daughtry) getting extensive play on rock/alternative.

He's going to probably wind up being like David Cook in the sense that he'll have rock songs on the album, but they won't be rock enough to sustain regular play. You can't tell me that "Bar-ba-sol" isn't "rock" enough to gain airplay on active, cause it is. It's just that the song isn't up to standards (according to radio anyway) or the fact that he is the american idol. That works significantly against him, where as Daughtry was seen as somewhat of an american idol 'reject' having been voted off in 4th place, despite being the most talented contestant they had that season. I think Cook also made a mistake by not joining a band, if he really wanted to have success on active. Daughtry didn't make the same mistake. Just curious if you actually have heard him sing??? Honestly, this guy blows nearly every rock singer of this generation out of the water. No, I'm not even exaggerating and I'm not a young fanboy, lol. Agree entirely. He's knows what kind of artist he is and the rock format is best for him. If his material is good enough, he will be successful on alternative. ;)

Adam Lambert has a boldness and an edginess that Cook and Daughtry don´t have which I think will translate to alternative radio success. For example, on country week, his arrangement of Johnny Cash´s "Ring Of Fire" was like NIN meets Jeff Buckley meets Ra. If he goes in that direction, with his voice, he´s got a shot. I think the lead single will either make him a core alternative artist or cast him out forever. The ball is in his court.

^Yeah think he should front a band though (if he wants to target Alternative) cause can't remember the last time a solo artist (not already fronting an established Alt. band) got a significant hit on Alt.

Oh yeah wait Lenny Kravitz...yeah and Jack Johnson must've charted at Alt. with Flake but not sure how high it got...also Kenny Wayne Shepard I'm guessin charted on Active back in the day, but not sure about that one either There was another solo rock dude that sounded kinda like Robert Plant but completely can't remember the name...

Yeah Jack Johnson hit the top 30 just last year with "Hope." But his last "significant" hit would probably be "If I Had Eyes" which hit the top 10 in 07. Not to mention Kid Rock and Eddie Vedder.

Katy Perry? ha Wouldn't she have to be the last non-established solo artist to chart on alternative?

Wait was thinkin of Jeff Buckley (his name randomly just came up in another thread) - lol at Katy Perry...didn't think IKAG got that high though (gotta go check)
Yeah completely forgot Kid Rock too - meant solo artists who hadn't already established rock creds through frontin a band though (i. e. Eddie Vedder)

I wouldn't expect straight up rock from Adam. He's already said his album will be a rock/pop/electronic/dance sort of thing. I'm expecting his first disc to be more CHR-oriented and somewhere in between electropop a la Lady GaGa and electroclash with the latter sort of tracks getting some token spins at Alt-rock.
