Why such a long wait after Shuttin' Detrit Down anyway?

maybe they couldn't even find a decent choice for single #3. I know in the rate the music surveys - all of his songs stunk.

Why such a long wait after Shuttin' Detrit Down anyway? Probably because he was too busy getting into fights at bars...

This is even worse than his first two singles. At least "Another You" was inoffensive (though utterly dull and lifeless sounding) and "Shuttin' Detroit Down", as bad as it was lyrically, had an appealing throwback sound to it. This, on the other hand, is just all around awful, with the nadir being the lyric in the chorus suggesting that somehow we'd all be speaking German and living under the Japanese flag if we hadn't gotten involved in World War II. Obviously I wouldn't begin to argue that our involvement was necessary and that all the men who served in it are to be commended and their sacrifices never forgotten, but..........seriously.........does anyone seriously believe what Rich implies in the chorus? Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Why such a long wait after Shuttin' Detrit Down anyway? Perhaps, due to his album selling poorly thus far (less than 100,000 copies have been sold) the label was contemplating pulling the plug early, but then decided to give one more release a go when realizing "Shuttin' Detroit Down" was nonetheless his best peaking single to date, and they thought perhaps this particular song, also political thematically, might appeal to a sizable enough chunk of the Country audience to help further promote the album. I don't think this strategy will work though. Perhaps on the eve or right before the Iraq war began, this would have been a hit, but since then the economy has overshadowed foreign policy as an issue, and most Americans are more concerned with their personal savings and pocketbook security at the moment. Sincerely, Noah Eaton
