How often does this happen on your radio station?

A song or more than one that was dropped or shelved for quite some time from the playlist gets heard once again.
As I've been tuning in to my radio station during the last few weeks, I've noticed that each week, there's at least one song that I have not heard in a while since it was dropped/shelved. Of course, if they do get to playing those songs, I'm more likely to come across it randomly since it's not expected that they'll be playing it as many times as before.
Usually, if an old song gets re-added to the playlist, it's because the station has either decided to expand it, or it's still scheduled with little notice to the listener and held in very low priority along with other singles in gold status. These are the ones more likely to be spun during music blocks that run continuously without interruptions and fill up airtime that becomes available in lieu of a commercial or to avoid dead air. I assume that this is a strategic measure by which stations decide to schedule these songs.
Among the songs that make up this list:
Natasha Bedingfield - These Words
Mika - Grace Kelly
Maroon 5 f/Rihanna - If I Never See Your Face Again
In the case of the first two songs, these were in recurrent and/or gold status up until some point late last year. I started to notice that my station stopped playing both songs altogether. Then one morning, I heard one of these songs play again. A few days later, the other one came on my radio. For the third song, it was heavy rotation late last summer for about a month, then dropped altogether. Outside of the weekly and year-end countdown shows, my station never played it again until today...
On rare occasions, between 5 and 5:30am on weekdays or even close to midnight at the conclusion of the evening shift on weeknights, I'll encounter Canadian songs (yes, my station is licensed in Canada and is subject to a certain amount of Canadian content being played) along the same lines. Again, I think this is probably scheduling of a strategic nature on the station's part.
