Yes. This is a cover of the 80's Shannon club classic.
Perfect Beat is selling this as an exclusive:
Featured Item: We have all eagerly been awaiting the new Tony Moran production featuring American Idol contestant Frenchie Davis but it looks like someone beat Tony to the punch. Tony’s track featuring the powerhouse vocals of Frenchie is titled ‘You Are’ and we’ve been assured it’s still forthcoming. Until that release, Frenchie fans should be quite content with this new CD single as her instant recognizable voice is heard loud and clear. Give Me Tonight is a cover of the huge anthem by Shannon released back in 1984. This classic only went to #46 on the Billboard singles chart but it did reach number 1 on the Billboard Dance charts and stayed there for 2 weeks. It is easily one of the most recognizable songs in Dance Music and it’s great to see it’s return in 2009.
A Closer Look: Though we do not have a full story on how this track came to be, we do know that it started with Rapper, Model & hubba-bubba T.R. He was a featured Model for Abercrombie & Fitch, Ralph Lauren, and Hugo Boss to name a few, and from the great city of Boston. Apparently he approached Frenchie and said ‘I’ve got an idea!’ With his Rapping and Frenchie’s big vocals there just may be a potential hit here. We couldn’t help but feel that late 80’s, early 90’s vibe with the mixture of Rap from T.R. and vocals from Frenchie. Made perfect sense seeing as how the song easily fits the time period.
The Mixes: There are 8 mixes on this exclusive release. Mixes by DJ Escape & Johnny Vicious, Mike Rizzo, and Klubjumpers. You get radio edits, club mixes and even dubs. As with most of our exclusives, they tend to sell out quick…so don’t sleep on this one.
Tracklisting:
01. Mike Rizzo Funk Generation Radio Mix (3:46)
02. DJ Escape & Johnny Vicious Club Mix (8:39)
03. Klubjumpers Radio Mix (3:52)
04. Mike Rizzo Funk Generation Club Mix (6:30)
05. Klubjumpers Club Mix (5:58)
06. DJ Escape & Johnny Vicious Radio Mix (3:58)
07. Mike Rizzo Funk Generation Dub Mix (6:29)
08. DJ Escape & Johnny Vicious Dub Mix (8:10)
It sounds decent for a cover. I'm a big fan of the original Shannon one and the new mixes that came out earlier in the 2000s. The rap is rather unnecessary even if it is done as a 'he raps, she sings' type of thing. The production on Escape & Johnny Vicious' mix stays real close to the original 80's version and feels fresher. Rizzo's is good too.
