These are the country songs on Hot 100 this week (6/27/2009):
12 Miley Cyrus - The Climb 17 Kenny Chesney - Out Last Night 18 Taylor Swift - You Belong with Me 26 Taylor Swift - Love Story 28 Zac Brown Band - Whatever It Is 30 Brad Paisley - Then 37 Keith Urban - Kiss a Girl 38 Lady Antebellum - I Run to You 39 Dierks Bentley - Sideways 43 Billy Currington - People Are Crazy 50 Kellie Pickler - Best Days of Your Life 53 Sugatland - It Happens 54 Rascal Flatts - Summer Nights 55 Darius Rucker - Alright 59 Montgomery Gentry - One in Every Crowd 63 Alan Jackson - Sissy's Song
If we create a chart using this, then......
1 Kenny Chesney - Out Last Night 2 Taylor Swift - You Belong with Me 3 Zac Brown Band - Whatever It Is 4 Brad Paisley - Then 5 Keith Urban - Kiss a Girl 6 Lady Antebellum - I Run to You 7 Dierks Bentley - Sideways 8 Billy Currington - People Are Crazy 9 Kellie Pickler - Best Days of Your Life 10 Sugatland - It Happens 11 Rascal Flatts - Summer Nights 12 Darius Rucker - Alright 13 Montgomery Gentry - One in Every Crowd 14 Alan Jackson - Sissy's Song
Kellie Pickler is in Top 10 already! This chart can also show the popularity of country songs, especially the influence of digital downloads.

Do people take seriously a chart that combines sales and airplay? I know I'm particular about my charts, but I just find this to be an apples-and-oranges way to look at music. Besides, how is airplay measured? Spins? Audience? Which stations? How many sales equals a spin? Or spins equal a sale?

Besides, how is airplay measured? the formula is actually quite simple: Σ = v•ο + a•tv + ο (x-v•t) + ½•(a•t v•v ) - 2•a(x - x•ο) - ½•(v•ο + a ) Σ = airplay ;)

For Hot Country Songs, they use audience who listen to about 121 US country radio stations. Well, off course sales is important. It shows people's attraction to a song. Radio plays songs for you, and you like them, but you sometimes won't buy them. I think sales becomes more important these days.

It's always entertaining to see a newbie get introduced to the defining characteristic of this message board, sarcastic humor. Although I was a little disappointed that joey didn't quite get the equations of motion correct (and that was likely not his intent). We've got "a" for acceleration, "v" for velocity, "t" for time, and "o" and "x" for initial position and final distance. But I'm guessing his equations would be easier to figure out than BB's. And after 2200 posts on this board, I'm just guessing that Zazie's stumbled and bumbled his way onto the Radio & Records pages before. I'm pretty sure he's well aware that the Country song chart is compiled according to estimated audience. It's just the exact combination (equations) of audience, spins, and sales, that we've never been able to figure out for the compilation for the Hot 100, and thus, have only regulated it to "passing interest", rather than "bordering on psychotic obsession" that we devote to the Country chart.

Thanks, guys. I knew I was heading for trouble when I wrote a polite response. I should have gone with something that combined the words "Hot 100" with "goofy." I might be wrong, but I don't think there are many country stations on the panel for the Hot 100. The idea of compiling a chart of country songs based on data that largely excludes country radio is too much for me to grasp. Throw in some sales data in proportions unknown, and you've got quite the valid chart.

sarcastic humor? I will get used to it very soon. Ha ha!
We never know how country digital sales is like. We can only see some positions on Hot Digital Songs. However I think sales are quite important. Hot 100 Country Songs is just a derivative chart from Hot 100, and it also can show how popular a song is.
