Here is this week's AT10:
LC TC SONG/ARTIST
01 01 The First Cut Is The Deepest/Sheryl Crow
02 02 White Flag/Dido
03 03 You Raise Me Up/Josh Groban
04 04 100 Years/Five For Fighting
05 05 Forever And For Always/Shania Twain
06 06 Unwell/Matchbox Twenty
08 07 Calling All Angels/Train
07 08 Drift Away/Uncle Kracker f/Dobie Gray
09 09 Ain't No Mountain High Enough/Michael McDonald
XX 10 This One's For The Girls/Martina McBride
Wait! What's this? A debut song on AT10?? You've got to be kidding! No joke, my friends. There was actually a debut (or entry in the Top Ten, as the Martina McBride song was on Casey's countdown when it was a Top 20, for several weeks before the chart was butchered. The song that leaves the countdown is "Dance With My Father" by Luther Vandross, a song that had been on the countdown since June of last year, so it's served its purpose. Now if we could just get rid of Train and Uncle Kracker in exchange for Simply Red and Lionel Richie...
Anyway, here are the "other" songs:
AT10 Extras:
Escape (The Pina Colada Song)/Rupert Holmes, who's already thinking about his death, at which time he wants a tombstone shaped like a giant pineapple - LOL!
Just You 'N Me/Chicago
I Don't Want To Miss A Thing/Aerosmith, who's apparently singing the blues now. Weird...
Always and Forever/Heatwave, a group who lost two members, disabled by separate car accidents and is no longer together
Long Distance Dedications:
American Pie/Don McLean (they started with the first chorus, cutting out the verse that started "A long, long time ago...) and played each verse except for the last slow one and repeated the chorus until the fade.
You Raise Me Up/Josh Groban (a song in the countdown)
AT10 Archives:
1975: This Will Be/Natalie Cole
1977: Your Smiling Face/James Taylor
1978: Night Fever/The Bee Gees
1980: Hit Me With Your Best Shot/Pat Benatar
1981: Celebration/Kool & The Gang
1981: In The Air Tonight/Phil Collins
1982: Hurts So Good/John Cougar
1983: Sexual Healing (Casey said it was from 1982, which was the year it was released, but it didn't peak until 1983)
1985: Heaven/Bryan Adams
1996: Give Me One Reason/Tracy Chapman
AT10 Spotlight: One Hit Wonders
Never Had A Dream Come True/S Club 7
I Know/Dionne Farris
Black Velvet/Alannah Myles
Don't Worry Be Happy/Bobby McFerrin
Tainted Love/Soft Cell
Don't Leave Me This Way/Thelma Houston
Everlasting Love/Carl Carlton
Take On Me/A-ha
Due to the fact that one of the LDD's was a song in the countdown, as well as the fact that some of the extras had playing times of under three minutes ("Everlasting Love", "Tainted Love", and "Your Smiling Face" come to mind), without their annoying practice of looping the songs, they were able to get 23 "others" on (24, including "You Raise Me Up", which was one of the Long Distance Dedications). Quite the pleasant surprise. I dozed off at one point and when I woke up and heard Casey playing "Heaven", I sighed, thinking I'd missed the number one song, but was again pleasantly surprised when I heard Casey outroing the song, saying that it was a number one song from 1985. The story going into the number one song was about remakes, which "First Cut" is one (that would have been a good story to tell last week, since the AT10 Spotlight focused on cover versions of old songs then).
All in all, a good show this week, with the first debut of AT10's month-long run.
