One interesting thing - they played the studio version of Peter Frampton's "Baby I Love Your Way" instead of the live version, which is the version I always hear on the A/C stations today. I don't think I've ever heard the studio version of the song before.

I've heard the studio verion before and it's not bad. It's also a lot longer than the live version, so it was probably used as filler. That's much better than looping other songs.

Really? I don't remember it being longer than the live version. But yeah, I find it annoying when they loop songs like they did a lot of the first few weeks of AT10. They also played "Hotel California" by the Eagles, which is a little over six minutes long. I thought this would mean less Extra songs, but they still managed to get 23 of them played. I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but I remember on the first half of the Top 60 of 1998, they looped about five or six songs by repeating the second verse. Wouldn't it have been easier to just throw an extra or two in, i.e. a song that narrowly missed the countdown instead of #1 year end A/C songs like "Because You Loved Me" and "Love Will Keep Us Alive", among others?

My parents have the studio version and it's at least 4 1/2 minutes. I've got the cassette single of the live version and I don't think it's any longer than 3 1/2 minutes. Yeah, I'd much rather hear songs that didn't make the year-end survey than #1's from past years. I think they started that practice at the end of 2000.

Yeah, I'd much rather hear songs that didn't make the year-end survey than #1's from past years. I think they started that practice at the end of 2000. Actually, they started that on the 1999 year end show, playing songs like "She's All I Ever Had" and "No Matter What" by Boyzone (#32 and 35, respectively). On the 2000 show, what they did was to play #1 songs of years past (though I sure don't know where the hell they got "One Sweet Day"! Did it rank #1 in most often used in Long Distance Dedications). But on the second half of the show, they played two countdown misses -"Mambo #5" and "Spanish Guitar". So that was cool. And now they do play songs that just missed the countdown each year, especially now that the show is only a Top 30. In 2001, however, they played former #1 songs, but at least they went back to the 1980s.

I was very disappointed in 1999 when they only had a top 30 to allow a decade round-up the following week.
The top 60 year-end countdown was much more interesting to listen to. It was a good way to wind down the entire year.
With a top 30 year-end, they definitely should play songs from that year rather than past #1's, though I don't know what to expect at the end of this year.
With AT10 now, they could probably include most of the year's biggest top 10's with a year-end top 25, leaving room for some past #1's.
How many songs went top 10 on AC in 2003?

I was very disappointed in 1999 when they only had a top 30 to allow a decade round-up the following week. Yeah, but that decade round-up was pretty darn good, even though it wasn't that accurate (I mean, how was "Restless Heart" a bigger hit than "I'll Never Break Your Heart"?) Yeah, but with most AC stations running all-Christmas music during the holiday season, it's probably going to be a Top 30 from here on out. Probably the same as they've done the past two years - a Top 30 year end countdown with three or four songs that just narrowly missed as extras. I believe there were 30+ such songs, since there was a handful of songs that didn't quite hit the Top Ten. They'll probably keep the chart the same size. Back when the show was AT20 and they did the Top 60 of the year, there were usually several songs that didn't quite make the weekly show and Casey said that they "bubbled under" the Top 20 and got enough points to register in the year end countdown. I sure hope they don't reduce the size of the year end chart!
