As mentioned in the Music News forum, this will be the first single from his forthcoming June release "72 and Sunny"
This is written by veteran songwriting favorite Diane Warren.
I haven't heard the single yet, but considering it's written by Diane alone, and considering Uncle Kracker's recent chart dominance, this is destined to be another mega-hit for him.
My Prediction: #1
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Your analysis above could more than likely be used to argue that this song will NOT be huge on AC radio. Even though Drift Away may fall off the chart to recurrent land in the next month or so, AC stations will still be playing it constantly a la Enrique Iglesias' Hero, which hurt other hits like Escape from moving up the chart. I don't think Uncle Kracker is in the AC core status limelight like Shania Twain, Faith Hill, or Celine Dion quite yet, so I think we should listen to the song first before making any bold predictions.

Recurrentitis certainly didn't hurt Celine Dion or Phil Collins from earning two hit singles off the same album recently. Anyway, indeed the single doesn't have an audio link set up yet, but "72 & Sunny" is said to be filled with AC/Country flair and so I think it's fairly obvious this will sound like an AC single, with Diane giving further evidence of that. It'll probably also be added to Hot AC I imagine. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

When do songs get moved to recurrent on the AC chart? What is the rule? Thanks. I think you have to be on the chart for at least 30 weeks, and if you're above #15 by the 30th week, you go recurrent once you fall below #15. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Recurrentitis certainly didn't hurt Celine Dion or Phil Collins from earning two hit singles off the same album recently. Phil Collins only had one hit from "Testify" - Can't Stop Loving You. Look Through My Eyes is from the Brother Bear soundtrack and certainly was hurt from CSLY's current and recurrent play during its chart run. In fact, LTME is nowhere near the top 30 on the sans recurrent chart, while CSLY is still holding strong. In regards to Celine Dion, I would not consider "I Drove All Night" or "Have You Ever Been In Love?" in the same league of AC stardom as "Drift Away", although the latter is certainly the closest. And from A New Day Has Come, the title track certainly helped to kill "I'm Alive"'s chance at AC residency along with the other two singles selected off the album (although admittedly the singles were poor choices to start with). And as a more current example, look at what is happening to Phil Collins' new hit "No Way Out". The song was N&A for a while and now is dropping, never even seeing the light of the AC top 30. I guess the point is - I wouldn't be so quick to say AC will push this song to #1.

I heard “Rescue” and it’s a total smash. I am not an Uncle Kracker fan but I love Diane Warren. She writes the best hooks in the business and in “Rescue,” the hook is insanely catchy. Diane hasn’t had a top 10 hit since “There You’ll Be” hit number one a few years ago. This will be the song that turns it all around though…..easy top 10 and hopefully a number one record.

Actually, "Hero" was still charting when "Escape" had its run on the chart, but you're still right - all the airplay "Hero" hurt the chart performance of "Escape" (I still don't see how "Escape" made it onto the A/C Top 100 of 2003, seeing that it never charted within that chart year).

If any thing this new song will get ride of Drift Away which has spent 56-58 weeks in the top 20.
A New Day Has Come killed I'm Alive, then when At Last had a chance I Drove All Night killed it.
but then Have You Ever Been In Love hit #2 so Rescue could die from Drift Away or kill it and become a hit.

This should do well enough at AC, but I don't see it doing much at all anywhere else. I predict that it will do worse than "In a Little While" at Pop.

This sounds pretty boring after one listen. It'll probably peak around the same area "Follow Me" did, but won't last as long.

...and set a new record of 70 weeks in the Top Ten ;) You mean if "Drift Away" doesn't do it first. Next week will make 54 weeks in the top 10 for that song and it looks like it'll be 'safe' for at least a few more unless Lionel Richie starts gaining faster.

UNCLE KRACKER Rescue Producer(s): Michael Bradford, Writer(s): D. Warren Publisher(s): Realsongs (ASCAP) Label/Catalog Number: Lava PRCD 301481 (CD promo) Source: Billboard Magazine Originally Reviewed: June 12, 2004 Uncle Kracker is riding high these days. In April, his duet with Kenny Chesney—"When the Sun Goes Down"—topped the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart; one month later, it became a top 30 hit on the Hot 100. A few days ago, Kracker started his summer tour with Chesney, which runs through the end of September and coincides with the June 29 release of Kracker's third solo album, "Seventy Two & Sunny." The Diane Warren-penned "Rescue" is the first glimpse into the collection. If this track is any indication, Kracker enthusiasts can expect a delightful, '70s-shaded album, rich in country-rock sensibilities. (Pure Prairie League or Eagles, anyone?) With longtime collaborator Michael Bradford's savvy production ear, "Rescue" remains lean and mean; its acoustic setting provides the just-right backdrop for Kracker's heartfelt delivery.—MP

I am going to be negative but I can't believe some of you actually think this guy is an artist. Sure, his songs are catchy on the radio and I don't turn the station when they are on but honestly.... This weekend I watched the ACM awards show on CMT and UK and Kenny Chesney sang their hit song. Kenny can sing live but Uncle Kracker was a joke!!! Sounded like a joke and looked like a joke (not because he isn't thin but because he looked like a slob). Please, where's this guys talent? He is obviously autotuned to death on his records.
He seems like a really nice guy. Nothing at all against him personally but please, let's get his songs off the radio.
Rant over.

...And "Drift Away" still has enough spins to be in the top 10, while this didn't even make it to new and active.

I am bewildered by the complete flop of this lead single.
It certainly sounded capable of being another AC smash for him.
A huge upset of 2004.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

the next single from uncle kracker will be "Writing It Down," a piano ballad, which, IMO, is miles better than Rescue
