That's depressing.
It doesn't matter how good it is if nobody hears it. Her "fans" dwindle with every CD.

I know about her wishes etc. I just see a better future for her than a ever increasing waistline with an ever decreasing sales total.

After RCA, Kelly won't go to a major label. She hates big label politics. She'll still tour and make records, but I don't expect any radio play. We don't know that. She hates the way RCA does things, but it doesn't mean ALL labels are the same. She knows the industry and she knows the risks of going independent or with a small label, I don't think she'd go that way. She's a smart woman, I'm sure she has a very clear idea of what she wants to do. But what major label wouldn't want to sign an artist like Kelly Clarkson with 20 million albums sold worldwide???

I hope there is a big label out there that can respect Kelly and her wishes, since I want her to stay on one. I just don't know if that's possible.
Speaking of Kelly's frustration with RCA, she told a funny story the other night about when she wrote Ready. Watch at 3:00, she gets a big ass grin on her face when everyone yelled "come get me".

I wonder if once her contract is up, she will consider staying with RCA if they get on board with what she wants to do more. She still makes them money, and especially if she follows this CD with another radio-friendly one (maybe that will get the public's trust back), they may not want to lose her. As people have pointed out in the past, RCA doesn't appear as rigid with their other artists. They seem to let Christina Aguilera have much more freedom. Maybe Kelly can stipulate her contract to include more creative control should she choose to renew it, and I wouldn't be too surprised if RCA would like to keep Kelly around. We'll see, but I look forward to Kelly's first non-contractual album just to see what it's like.
If she does leave RCA, hopefully there will be some big Behind the Music-esque special where we can finally end all the MD speculation and find out what really happened haha.

i hope once Kelly leaves RCA (which im sure she will) she writes a book about her life
Im pretty sure not only will it answer many mannny of our questions as fans who have been watching how everthing had played out but it would also make an amazing story for those non-fans, a story about a small town girl turned pop phenomenon overnight.

Another comment from the Express on what Kelly's reference to her contract may mean: Putting on my tinfoil hat, if she has such a clause, then RCA may have benefitted to the tune of adding another album to her contract from My December not reaching certain benchmarks (sales, radio hits, etc.). Which meant the label had a financial incentive to strangle the promotion of the album before any songs off it could be hits. Which would explain a lot, actually. Like I said, that's my inner conspiracy-theorist talking.

Her inconsistency is what's going to cost her fans should she choose to go the MD route again.
I think she should follow the P!nk formula and have songs that are perfect pop songs (like So What? to MLWSWY and maybe something like Crystal Ball to Chivas).
The All or Nothing attitude she had with MD was something I didn't like too much... Even though AIEW has a better mix, I still wish even one song wasn't as overproduced and had more sincerity (let's forget INOWL)

I want Kelly to tour with someone who can sing live. I have nothing against them, but Katy Perry and Taylor Swift sound horrible live. I think Pink would be awesome. Or if it has to be a country act, Miranda Lambert. Actually Taylor Swift isn't really bad live anymore, not perfect no, but if you've checked out any of her recent live performances or tour videos from youtube, she's improved much. Plus, by going on tour with her, I bet more people would get interested in her just because she's with Taylor, and Kelly obviously likes Taylor covering two of her songs now. I doubt they would, but that'd be amazing. I still don't Taylor is up to Kelly's vocal ability. And while it might be more exposure for Kelly, I kinda want her audience to be older now, and Taylor's audience is pretty much made up of tweens. It'll probably mean lower sales, but Kelly'll be able to put out more 'grown up' music, e.g., Sober, Maybe, Ready, Dirty Little Secret, and Chivas. Even IICHY and Yeah seemed to have been aimed at an older audience, (IMO, more sexier songs). I have no idea what her future plans are, but she seems to be moving away from tweens. Except for MLWSWY and a couple of others, AIEW seems to be a push at an older audience, late teens to twenties (and older). I think her concerts seem to reflect this change as well, there are still plenty of young girls, but there seems to be more of a mix in the audience, more older girls and boys. :) But I'm just speculating now. It'll be interesting to see what kind of album she puts out next.

Whoever she might be touring with, I have a feeling it will be a let down...as in not anyone big or exciting. Probably someone like David Cook, or Reba. Can predict the speculation that's coming in the next few months ("omg Beyonce!?"), but I don't think anyone should get too excited.

Review: Kelly Clarkson at the Fox TheatreWithout Kelly Clarkson, where would "American Idol" be? Sure, it would probably be fine. "The Bachelor" franchise is still humming along, and its success rate is abysmal. But Clarkson -- the original, and still the best, "American Idol" -- gave the show a shot of legitimacy right from the get-go that has proven invaluable. Just think if Justin Guarini would have won that first year. Six years and four albums into her career, Clarkson has reached a cool kind of serenity, which she displayed at the Fox Theatre Sunday. She no longer has to prove she's a star -- massive hits such as "Since U Been Gone" and "My Life Would Suck Without You" have done that for her -- nor is she stuck playing anyone else's game or being what anyone else wants her to be. On Sunday she was just Kelly -- perky, funny, and a whirlwind singer -- and that was plenty good enough. Clarkson's 20-song, 90-minute set included a handful of covers which, frankly, would have burned up the "Idol" stage (she should come back to the show as a guest mentor. Seriously). During previous tours she may have had to round out her performance with covers to fill a full set, but now she's doing covers because she can, and she's earned the right to. She filled her set Sunday with a cool array of cover songs, including a smoky, bluesy take on the Black Keys' "Lies," a gale force cover of the White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army," a sassy rendition of Patsy Cline's "Walkin' After Midnight" and an inventive hybrid of Alanis Morrissette's "That I Would Be Good" and Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" that peaked with the roundhouse chorus of the latter. In each, Clarkson put her own stamp and spin on them, going back to her old judges' advice to make every song her own. She also put new spins on her own material, stripping down "Behind These Hazel Eyes" to its bare essentials and rearranging "Already Gone" into a far more effective ballad. She also gave "My December's" solemn first single "Never Again" a disco-funk makeover that made it much less of a drag than it was in its original form. Most of all, Clarkson was chatty and free-spirited during the show, even joking about the wind machine she spent most of the show propped in front of (she claimed it was because it was hot on stage, but more likely she enjoyed the Beyonce-like effect it gave her hair). She even swigged freely from a bottle of booze during "Chivas" and cracked about how long it had been since she'd been kissed ("any takers? Just kidding!" she laughed), endearing herself to the audience along the way. Whether or not "American Idol" is searching for true artists is debatable. But it found one in Kelly Clarkson, which she continues to hammer home time and again. Good for them, better for us. apps.detnews.com/apps/blogs/adamgrahamblog/index.php?blogid=307

Kelly Clarkson brings house down in DetroitPop rock princess Kelly Clarkson has many distinctions since her coronation in 2002. She will forever possess her own chapter in rock history tomes for being the first American pop singer to ever be voted into the glittery world of superstardom during the inaugural season of "American Idol." She will forever be known for having a powerful, angelic voice that belies her irresistible aw-shucks charm. But she will also forever have detractors who knock on her only because she vaulted to fame via the loving efforts of millions of gushing teens during her fateful run on "Idol," and well, because she sells gobs of CDs. No one cared a lick about said detractors during a chilly Sunday night in Detroit, when a throng of Clarkson's faithful stuffed the beautifully ornate Fox Theatre for a raucous pop-rock extravaganza that also featured newcomers Parachute and up-and-comer Eric Hutchinson. To play fair, there was hardly anything for anyone to complain about. Parachute was bland but at least minimally inoffensive, and Hutchinson displayed superb, plucky showmanship, the result of mad skills and devotion to craft. But the night belonged to Clarkson, who put on a thrilling 90-minute tour de force that had girls in tight t-shirts and hip-huggers enamored, and boys with floppy hair and glasses equally flustered. But it wasn't just kids. There were 20, 30 and 40 year olds in attendance, some having a girls night out and some toting their tykes to their very first rock show. Stampedes descended on the merchandise booths and cameras snapped away both inside and outside the venue, and during the concert those pictures no doubt graced several thousand Facebook statuses. When the house lights went black and the gritty strains of AC/DC fist-pounder "You Shook Me All Night Long" blared out of the PA, a giant curtain dropped and Clarkson sauntered out and leaped into "All I Ever Wanted," the title track from her latest multi-platinum platter. "Wanted," though, made for a shaky start. The song prominently displays a more mature direction for Clarkson, but it lacks the explosive impact needed to provide the necessary fireworks in kicking off a rock show, even in pop rock territory. Still, it's a minor qualm, because everything soared uphill from there. Clarkson made considerable tracks across the seemingly borderless stage throughout the night, running up and down three metal gangplanks that split up two chrome risers for keyboards and turntables. All the while, the singer, who sported jeans, a form-fitting t-shirt covered by a frayed overlay and necklaces and bracelets galore, was bathed in pastel spotlights lined up in four towering columns at the back of the hall and in the rafters. Clarkson was dynamite, bouncing and barreling through some of her best-known hits, including "Just Walk Away," "If I Can't Have You," "I Do Not Hook Up" and "Since You've Been Gone." Among the highest highs were the live rarity "Chivas," which comically kisses off an ex who "sucked," and a searing cover of the White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army," which in the course of two encores stomped just as hard as White's original. Clarkson proved she's not only bright in the effervescent sense, but also in the smarts department, surrounding herself with an amazing 11-member band that included a DJ, two backup singers and a horn section. Clarkson and her bandleader know full well her music shines brighter when it's played to its fullest potential, and Clarkson sure as hell knows her audience. Always taking an extra second to high five a fan springing up and down in the front row, or wave and wink to someone further out in the sea of smiling faces on the main floor or balcony, Clarkson is earnest and instantly likeable. But that's not really what sells her. It's the fact that she's a considerable talent to be reckoned with and she's just so darned humble. The biggest treats of the night came during informal and bubbly chats with the crowd, where the singer talked openly about her ups and downs on this current sojourn across the States. Whether it was mistaking a movie shoot for an actual shootout in one town or wishing she looked more like R&B queen Beyonce, Clarkson was sassy and saucy and elicited more than a few hearty chuckles. The intimacy of the venue was the singer's best friend this night, too, because when stools came out and the glare of the lights dimmed for delicate acoustic clinics, Clarkson's pipes were at their most raw and pure, and her singing on numbers like "Already Gone" was a joy to embrace. By the time Kelly practically burned the venue to the ground with hit single "My Life Would Suck Without You," the crowd was spent from singing along with every ounce of passion it could muster. Which ought to say something to boorish rock critics who take extra time out of busy concert schedules to give Clarkson and artists like her a wag of the finger a la Stephen Colbert -- especially those that arrive late and leave early, forgetting the privilege of being allowed to have a job writing about music. Kelly Clarkson is fun. And fun is sometimes why pop and rock fans go to concerts. They want to sing loud and proud and have a good time. Pop, often dismissed all too easily as useless dreck by critics (this one included) has a place in the universe. Not all pop is good, but pop matters. Clarkson is a born entertainer and a stunning talent. It's a pretty safe bet our lives would suck without her. abclocal.go.com/wjrt/story?section=news/entertainment&id=7083616

I predict that she'll have to churn out 2 hit-filled albums and then she'll finally be released from RCA. I think she should just release another 2010 and then another 2011...keep on moving. Personally, I don't want her burnt out but really by the time we hear some of HER own material the world will be ending. Anyways, I am hoping that another major label picks her up and something amazing comes from that relationship.

I could see her signing with a label like Valory Music, the one that signed Jewel, Reba. I know it's a country label, but maybe they'll broaden their artists. It would be a good home for Kelly, I think.

I would love for her to put out a book.
Ok, I can't even begin to talk about the J/K show! First off, they put on a GREAT show...beautiful voices! And it was a awesome bar to see them in, nice and small, just perfect!
And also, Kelly was freakin just hanging out! My sister and I had a table in front of the merchandise table.....Kelly came out from the back and walked past us and SAT down behind us! She bumped into my sister and turned and said sorry and we started bantering about the J/K merchandise......Kelly was w/ Ashley and started selling merchandise! So of course we purchased stuff! Well after that people started coming back there in droves, and why wouldn't they???? So Kelly sold merchandise, took pictures and talked to EVERYONE that approached her! Finally there was a little break of people and my sister grabbed me up and went to Kelly and asked if she would take a pic w/ me, and before my sister could finish, Kelly grabbed my arm and pulled me toward her and said "of course come here girl".....I just said that I was a huge fan and she said thank you so much. So the show started and Kelly was behind us sitting video taping the show. She was hooted and yellin for them.....she is a riot! Then she went up and sang The Climb w/ them!! It was infreakincredible!!! Oh, I also forgot, J/K wanted someone to come and play the tambourine on a song and Kelly started a chant of Ashley's name! It was funny! Well, Ashely didn't go up there and after she called Kelly a nice playful name you would call a friend when you are embarassed by them! It was cool to see Kelly's music director and guitar player on stage w/ J/K as well! Great musicians all of them, so talented!
The whole experience was so SURREAL! Honestly though, it was such a JOY to be able to sit that close and hear her interact w/ people. She really is a sweet, kind, generous, funny, adorable individual. My sister likes her but is a casual fan....she was in awe about how cool/down to earth and adorable Kelly was. My sister's exact words were " she is so adorable I could kiss her". It was an experience I will never forget that is for sure and cemented my fandom for her 100 times over.
Well, that is my story, I am sure their are Expressers that have more "in the know stories" but this one is mine and I will treasure it.

Great story! I hope someone gets video of Sober, I wish I could hear that song live! I am surprised she would switch to that song to save her voice. Isn't it incredibly hard to sing, especially the bridge?

Overall, "Cry" is probably harder to sing since both the chorus and bridge are set kind of high. "Sober" is an incredibly easy song to sing, up until the very end (which actually goes higher than any note in in "Cry" does).

kcchica - That is a great story. Kelly selling Jill & Kate merchandise! Hilarious. Boy, she really must have faith in her voice holding up to hop up there and sing yet again with all the dates this week.
pyrates - Yeah, the age-of-audience issue puts her at a crossroads. I could see her doing a tour with Demi Lovato if she wanted to reach out to the younger fans, since Demi is basically a mini-Kelly and they're big fans of each other (ditto for Jordin), but somehow I expect her to go in the opposite direction. My dream is for her to tour with Harry Connick; their voices would mesh great and he also plays a big variety of stuff from rock to Big Band.
JJ - Duh, why didn't I think of that? Of course, Kelly would feel more comfortable on Reba's label.
Meester - Those are great reviews. Given that Detroit is Jack White's home town, it's high praise indeed to say she rocked Seven Nation Army as hard as the original. But true!
clarksodi - I love MD, but I agree that her best career route is more albums that mix pop hits with the more serious stuff. Something for everyone. I don't think AIEW is all over-produced, but the number of songs that sound better live should tell us something.
bigb0882 - I would also think Sober is hard to sing...But while I'm not a singer, I would think the hardest thing is singing the same songs every night, because you're putting the same strains on your voice instead of varying it. But maybe I don't understand singing well enough to know.

Not only singing the one song....she was really hootin and hollarin during the set for Jill and Kate...it was funny, she was the loudest one! And she was drinking some new bubble gum vodka! I dont know how she does it, or any singer, my throat is hoarse today, and I wasn't even yelling THAT much, Ha! But I do also smoke....oops!
Will see if she sings Sober tonight......at the radio thing yesterday, someone asked her to sing Sober and she said No Way....how about I add it to the show tomorrow? So, it will be interesting to see if she sings it...I hope she does

chica, you should post your whole story at the KCE. I'm sure the fans would love to hear about Kelly supporting her buds and even manning the merchandise table. That's hilarious!!!
I was thinking the same thing about Sober. The very last part will be hard, but maybe Kelly has worked out an alternate ending. Cry and Impossible are high for so long in so many places. I'm sure they're unbelievably hard to sing.

Great story kcchica - I had a feeling Kelly would show up there. Very cool.
About Sober being added, At first I was like 'WTF?'. If she wants to save her voice then I wouldn't have chosen Sober as a replacement for Cry and Impossible (which I will miss, I love them). I can't say I blame her for removing them, Cry must be so hard to sing. But I am looking forward to hearing Sober again, she hasn't sung it at all this era.
