I saw Kelly tonight. Her voice was the best it sounded this entire tour. There was no sign of hoarseness or anything. She sang Ready tonight. I'm pretty sure she hasn't sang it before now. I'm also pretty sure she did a new cover tonight. Agreed. I saw her Nov. 2nd in Austin. She's sang Ready since the beginning of this tour. What new cover? There's been Lies, Seven Nation Army, That I Would Be Good/Use Somebody, and Walking After Midnight. LOL Kelly said something like she added this song because it was some girls birthday. I guess the cover I'm talking about is There's Been Lies. Sorry for the confusion.

Kelly was incredible tonight. She sounds totally different when you actually hear her live, than on YouTube videos and such.

That Sober performance in Lubbock was the best performance of that song ever. Just gorgeous.

She told fans at the pre-show yesterday that she might add How I Feel during the second part of the tour. ;) The world tour? I can't wait for December 10th!!! My first Kelly Clarkson concert!!! She doesn't have another concert until the 18th, so I interpreted that as the second part. So in other words, she'll sing it at your concert.

Kelly Clarkson struts her rock side "American Idol" never tried to pimp out Kelly Clarkson as the "rocker chick." And yet, she was able to credibly cover the White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army," Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" and the Black Keys' "Lies" in the course of a 90-minute Arizona State Fair set Saturday, praising Dan Auerbach's voice and urging fans to go track down the Keys' own version of the song, which sounded more like unplugged Janis Joplin when she sang it. And the White Stripes cover rocked - no, really - somehow segueing without a hitch into the quintessential pop experience that is "My Life Would Suck Without You," an exhilarating climax to a show that couldn't have gone anywhere but down from that infectious, smile-inducing high. For those three minutes, I'd have sworn it was the greatest pop song of the new millennium. Indulging her bluesier side on "Lies," she talked about how much she loves the blues but doesn't get to do that kind of thing much on her records, after which she reinvented "Walkin' After Midnight" as a soulful country-blues with muted trumpet. Sadly, Clarkson did not seize the opportunity to introduce it, Bono-style, with "This is a song Megan Joy stole from Patsy Cline. We're stealin' it back." What's great about a Clarkson concert is the way she makes those unexpected detours work within the context of the songs her label would prefer she do. And whether she is as invested in "Miss Independent" as she is her favorite Black Keys song, what matters is she puts it out there like someone who's fully invested.Backed by 11 musicians, including three horns and a DJ, she opened with a punchy, soulful "All I Ever Wanted" and kept the energy level on high for a version of "Miss Independent" that felt more like rock than the slinkier studio version and the effervescent pop of "I Do Not Hook Up." From there, she brought it down a bit for a dramatic "mash-up," as she called it, of Alanis Morissette ("That I Would Be Good") and Kings of Leon that shouldn't have worked but somehow did (in part because she has a better voice than either of those singers), eliciting cheers of support for "even if I gained 10 pounds." A dramatic rendition of "Breakaway" followed, the audience taking the lead on the chorus, backed only by drums - the sort of thing that almost never works because the crowd can't pull it off, but this one did. And then, she brought the energy back up for "If I Can't Have You," a throbbing techno-pop revival from her latest album. While the keyboard riff was clearly thinking "Tainted Love," she led the female backup singers in the hook to the Eurythmics hit, "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)." "Never Again" kept the techno-pop pulse of "If I Can't Have You" beating strong. And then, she brought it down again for three songs - "Lies," the Patsy Cline song and "Behind These Hazel Eyes," another big audience singalong. "I Want You" was a playful throwback to the golden age of pop John Waters had in mind when he was writing "Hairspray," complete with handclaps and a surf beat, and again, the mood spilled over to a second song, the organ-driven '60s-flavored pop of "Ready." "Because of You," introduced as a song she'd written as a kid, had grown men belting out the words as though their lives depended on it. But it sounded more like where she's been then where she's going. Clarkson closed the proper set with two standouts from "Breakaway." The horn-fueled "Walk Away" was Memphis soul as British rockers understood it in the '80s (see Eurythmics) and "Since U Been Gone" was as triumphant as expected, Clarkson shouting "Jump!" as the guitars were on the verge of kicking in. It's still her finest hour of the pre-"My Life Would Suck Without You" era. Clarkson eased into the encore with a brooding "Sober" and her latest hit, "Already Gone," the sort of aching ballad she was clearly born to sing. That's when the spotlight shifted to the DJ, bringing the energy back to its previous peak without fully preparing the crowd for the shock of "Seven Nation Army," which found her wailing in her most convincing rock voice while her bandmates pounded out the riff. That left exactly one place Clarkson could have taken things at that point, bringing the night to a spirited close with a song that somehow sounded even more transcendent live - "My Life Would Suck Without You." Anyone who wasn't smiling by the time she hit that chorus hook just doesn't like to smile. www.azcentral.com/thingstodo/music/articles/2009/11/08/20091108kellyclarksonreview.html

No wonder the AZ show reviewer (see post earlier in this thread) was in awe with Kelly's version of 'Seven Nation Army'. I haven't seen this kind of rocked-out wailing from a pop star in a looooong time :o :

Just a random question... Has Kelly ever lip-synced? I've read many, many times the phrase "everyone does it", but I've never heard / seen Kelly do it? It's something I couldn't see her doing, and I wanna know for sure.

^Nope, not once. She's used backing tracks on a few performances instead of live back up singers, but that's it.

The verses are completely live here but the chorus comes in and she tries to sing over the backing track. Its pretty amazing that she's never once mimed anything.

The inability to re-create the backing vocals live is why I don't think I have ever heard a live version of SUBG that topped the studio version, even though it always sounds really good live and she's had some really epic performances of it. As long as there's only one Kelly singing it, it can't quite match the original.
I'm actually a little curious whether Kelly lip-synchs or sings along when she's filming her videos. Some people find it easier to stay in time with the song if they're singing.

In the end, every one is technically lip-synching since they place the backing track over the video. It wouldn't surprise me if she didn't lip-synch though, it's hard to learn how to do well. Just Carrie's awful JTTW video to see how good singer shouldn't lipsynch. Same with the Thanksgiving Parade (the one where you HAVE to lip), good singers can't lip.

I think P!nk is the singer whose videos suggest she has the most trouble lip-synching. I've seen a few of them where she's just not in sync with her own vocals at all.

I wish Never Again would still get played! I haven't heard my local radio station play it since last year.
That is sad that Breakway singles are getting played more than IDNHU. RCA should never have released it.
