I've gotta be honest, MLWSWY is probably my favorite song on the entire CD. Maybe even my favorite Kelly single ever. Something about it just sounds so good to me. Blasting it on headphones or jamming out to it at a party... Sonically, it's just on another level from some of her other songs. I mean, it's such a feel good song I don't know how any Kelly fan can dislike it lol. I know a lot of Kelly fans have this automatic bias towards Max Martin/Dr. Luke songs based on their past history, but seriously... It's the perfect pop song. Great way to close out her show, too.

I loved My Life for awhile but it just doesn't sound as good to me anymore. Hopefully it will sound good to me again!

Was just watching this one, and whilst it's a fairly averagey performance all round check out the run that Kelly does from 3.14 - 3.18! One of her sickest vocal moments EVER I'd say...

I completely agree. I wrote it off as a rehash when I first heard it, and to an extent it is, but there's just something about the song sonically as you said and the way she just roars those vocals that makes it sound better with each listen.

I think the cheesy album title and terrible cover/photoshoot hindered its success. If they had kept the original title and the "Masquerade" theme, I'd bet there would've been more interest.

Do you REALLY think there are people who said to themselves "eh, its called All I Ever Wanted and the cover is kind lame, so I'm not buying this"?. C'mon.

Singing her praises: Kelly Clarkson has made leap from 'Idol' to superstarBy Lucas Peerman, Las Cruces Sun-News, N.M. Nov. 26--If variety is the spice of life, consider Kelly Clarkson's latest offering, "All I Ever Wanted," the cinnamon and your collection of pop albums the hot cider --it may not be essential, but it'll certainly add some zest. With songs ranging from poppy dance hits to orchestral love ballads to pure punk, the album, depending on your point of view, either showcases the singer's wide range of vocal talents or is in the midst of an identity crisis. Either way, no one can deny the first "American Idol" is pure gold with a mic in her hand -- Clarkson has sold more than 20 million records; landed eight singles in the Billboard Top Ten; and won Grammys, MTV Video Music Awards, American Music Awards, and even been nominated for a CMA Award. The hugely popular singer is in the middle of her "All I Ever Wanted" tour and will perform next Thursday, Dec. 3, at the Pan American Center. Even she admits her latest album is lacking a defined genre. "A lot of it has a soulful, '70s rock vibe," she said, "and then some is more club/dance stuff -- "If I Can't Have You' is like the Killers-meets-the Eurythmics." She describes "Cry," her own composition as "basically a country song with pop production, incredibly sad but still strong" and "Whyyouwannabringmedown" as having "kind of a punk-British Invasion sound." Clarkson said "Whyyouwannabringmedown" was the turning point in the album. "I sang that song through I don't know how many times, just because I was having so much fun," she said. "It was new and it was fresh and it didn't sound like anything on the radio. And after that, I went to my manager and said that I wanted to make a really fun, feisty album, and just wanted to go all the way with every song." The first single off the album, "My Life Would Suck Without You," rose from No. 97 to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in its first week of release, breaking the record for the largest leap to the top position in chart history. "Already Gone," a pop/rock ballad with piano and violin backing sits at No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the Katy Perry-penned "I Do Not Hook Up," hit No. 20 in June. The Fort Worth, Texas-born Clarkson was catapulted into the spotlight in 2002 as the very first "Idol" winner. She said the show is different now. "Now there's all this pressure, all these comparisons, but we were just a bunch of kids that wanted to make music -- it was almost like performing in bars for 10 people, like I used to." Along with her amazing voice, Clarkson's unassuming, girl-next-door charm converted a lot of fans, such as Jennifer Sousa, a Las Cruces resident who plans to attend the show Dec. 3. "The thing I loved most was when they showed the casting auditions (on "Idol") and she made (judge) Randy (Jackson) come down and sing a song. She always looked liked she was having so much fun," Sousa said. "She seems like she'd be down for four-wheeling in the mud, then going home, cleaning up and going out to the club, afterward." Sousa said she appreciates Clarkson's eclectic sound. "Vocally, she can do whatever she wants," Sousa said. "She can sing Aretha Franklin to Melissa Etheridge, the Mariah Carey highs to the Tracy Chapman lows." While there's no question Clarkson can do it all, some may question whether she should. No matter, though, as she's making the albums she wants to make, and selling millions of them in the process. "I just want to be able to look back at this album and be proud, and to think, 'Man, that was awesome!'" Get there early The two openers for the Dec. 3 Clarkson show at the Pan Am are Eric Hutchinson and Parachute --two acts that tickle the ivories and are not to be missed. Hutchinson is a renowned pianist and songwriter, whose album "Sounds Like This," rose to No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart in September 2007. He incorporates piano and pop melodies with catchy, feel-good lyrics for what has been described as "sunshine pop." Fan favorite "Rock & Roll," used in the movie "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" was a huge success in Australia, where it has been certified Platinum. He has a new single out -- "OK, It's Alright With Me" -- with a truly captivating video, starring Hutchinson, his piano and the lyrics of the song (think the new Ford F-150 commercials). Rock band Parachute, with melodic, soulful singing and piano-playing from Will Anderson will no doubt be a radio sensation before too long. The powerpop group, reminiscent of Ben Folds, Maroon 5 or John Mayer, gained national recognition earlier this year when their single, "She Is Love," was used as part of a national TV advertising campaign for Nivea. Hutchinson and Parachute are two up-and-coming acts whose amiable lyrics and demeanor will leave fans smiling and cheering for more. I agree. To me, it's the chorus. It's just... perfect and absolutely a catalyst for an eargasm. It was my favourite Kelly song until "Already Gone" grew on me. I think I played it close to 1.5k times before the album came out. "All I Ever Wanted" brought out the huge Kelly fan in me. Before I liked her, but I never paid any real attention to her I guess. I had her albums, and even some singles I forgot I bought, but I never really... Idno, just saw her as a regular singer like everyone else. But AIEW brought my subdued fan out. It's funny 'cause I look back and realise that I remember a lot of Kelly moments (First time I heard "x", Whoring album or song "x") and it makes me glad.

I think people just aren't willing to shell out money for Kelly. Whatever it may be...image, sound....clearly they like it enough to listen to it on the radio; they're just not willing to spend it on Kelly. She's not the hot commodity anymore and she hasn't reached a status that someone like Beyonce has earned and so people don't feel the need to purchase her stuff.
We'll see on her next album. =D

Kells' album sales are somewhat dismal. Wasn't "My Life Would Suck Without You" a record-breaking #1 song? "Already Gone" is a slow grower, but it's not doing anything for her album. This market is pretty lousy now, but her album should be doing a helluva lot better than what it's doing. I can name about five artists off the top of my head that aren't getting much play on Pop radio but selling more units than Kells'. Something is not right with that.

It will be very interesting to see how well Clarkson's forthcoming lead single will do. I think this time they are going to get the album out in fall and not the next year. But that time of year the competition will be very big. If her single isn't as huge as 'My Life Would Suck Without You'... there will be a disaster. She'll barely sell 200,000 albums first week and the album will fall out of the charts immediately. They need to market her just like they did with era. And they need to put out a ballad for 2nd single. If they had put out 'Already Gone' after 'My Life', the album would be in a different situation now. But that was physically impossible as 'Halo' was just taking off on radio that time. So they didn't have another choice. With the right choices and right timing, they could make it a really big hit.

I absolutely agree with you on that one and thought that from the beginning! If they didnt choose something that was soo popish/girly as the cover there might have been a better reaction from male fans as well.

I remember cringing when I saw the pink cover Well given Kelly's propensity to change things up, we can be sure the next album will not be pink or yellow! Maybe something dark again.

I love MLWSWY as the closer to her shows. Someone once described the song as being "heroic" and I couldn't agree more.
I personally have no problem with Dr. Luke/Max 's creations. She has to have at least one of their songs on her next album.

Congratulations to Kelly's 'Already Gone' for holding a 2nd straight week at #1 on USA Hot AC radio (by the looks of it, she could stay #1 until at least the end of year on this format !). More impressive than this is Kelly's 'Already Gone' grabbing a jaw-dr :opping 7th straight week at #1 on Canada's Hot AC radio (this might be her last week or perhaps there could be one more week as BEPs are catching up): In many ways, 'Already Gone' is as big a hit or bigger than 'Life Would Suck' in the States. For comparision even though 'Already Gone' may not yet even have peaked yet, both have very similar AIs and spin peaks thus far, only 'Gone' has hit #1 on two N. American formats (Hot AC, Canada Hot AC and who knows where it will peak on AC next year !) and 'Gone' has a higher Hot 100 Airplay peak; however, the sales and thus Hot 100 peak of 'Life Would Suck' are much better in the US. Worldwide, 'Life Would Suck' was a MUCH bigger hit. Here is the quickcut data on 'Life Would Suck' at it's AI peak: Here is the quickcut data on 'Already Gone' at it's AI peak:

IMO, the only thing that could make the recorded version even better would be adding the really high "Yeah" she adds in after the bridge, just like she does it live.

I love Kelly to pieces, but I have to agree that her image is really killing her. We're in the age of female pop stars being over the top and theatrical, but Kelly's not like that. She doesn't stand out anymore, and she needs to find a way to stand out again and have people take another look at her. Her voice is still the best female voice in pop music, but she needs to revamp the rest of her act and bring it into the present.
I'd love to hear her do an album like Adam's For Your Entertainment. That kind of rock/electropop mix would be really interesting on Kelly, and might breathe some life into her album sales. It would definitely be different.

It would definitely be different. You just might get your wish. Kelly has stated on recent interviews that she is working on a new record for Q4 2010 that is different from what she has done before, more in line with a rock/electronic with pop/rock theme. We shall see :)

This sorta reminds of that Kelly/Justin R&B-lite duet material from their horrid movie- random, awkward, yet somehow awesomely fun.
Here is another video with clearer audio- man Kelly's vocals are ridiculous (example # 456,543 of why I call her THE vocal chameleon):
The crowd's reaction during the entire performance is worth posting alone- really made for an EPIC performance:

I gotta go with ya on this one! I was opposite of some posters here, I disliked the song at first, then found myself coming back to it and realized how different it was from SUBG and how good it was....and it is a GREAT way to end the show.
I really don't understand the record sales talk.....Kelly has sold a good amount of AIEW I think.....there are artists like Annie Lennox, Tori Amos, and Alanis Morisste, to name a few, that still make music and don't sell alot of albums. But at one time or another were at the top of pop world....ya can't stay at the top forever.....and hence the image conversation too....you don't think Kelly knows that image plays ALOT into staying in the "top" of the pop world? Hence that going hand in hand with her comments in the past on "not wanting/needing to be the biggest pop star in the world"......Kelly probably isn't concerned with any of this I am sure...sales for AIEW are good enough for today's market and the strategy she has taken in her career. Anyway, the main objective with the above artists I mentioned....they are still around making music.....as long as Kelly does that, all is good with the world.
