yet another Best of the Decade list... The Top Pop Albums of the Decade 2000sPosted Tuesday 01 December 08:00 AM By: PopEater Staff As the decade nears its end, one thing that will be missed is the music. Remember those albums we left on repeat because they really were worth listening to? From the catchy dance tracks to the political rock records that defined the 2000s, we saw artists like Justin Timberlake and Amy Winehouse grow up and deliver pinnacle records we never saw coming. When it came to the Top 40 set, this was a great time to love music. Here are our picks for the Top 10 Pop albums of the '00s: 10. Amy Winehouse -- 'Back to Black' No matter how many times she goes into rehab or messes up, nobody can dismiss the fact that Amy Winehouse's debut album showed how much promise and soul the troubled British songstress has. From the hyper-autobiographical 'Rehab' to 'You Know I'm No Good,' Winehouse's burnt vocals mixed with Mark Ronson's brilliant beats, Winehouse shines in a way that makes seeing her recent decline that much more painful. 9. Green Day -- 'American Idiot' Green DayYes, it's a great rock record of the decade, but its smash success (Grammys included) and the immediacy of the songs on this concept album also make it a universal pop smash too. No disc of the decade was more direct at speaking for a lost generation. From the thrilling title track to the nine-minute 'Jesus of Suburbia' suite to the radio-ready fury of 'Holiday' to the heart-shattering 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' make it an album that the punks could celebrate with their parents. And those are just the first four tracks we're mentioning. 8. Outkast -- 'Stankonia' The Atlanta duo of Dre and Big Boi struck gold with 'Stankonia,' as the album went triple platinum in a few quick months. With catchy hits like 'Ms. Jackson' and 'So Fresh, So Clean,' who can deny this album a top spot? Oh, and not to mention 'B.O.B.,' which Pitchfork recently declared as the single best track of the 2000s. 7. Beyonce -- 'B-Day' Mark this as the best dance album of the decade. Beyonce manages to 'Get Me Bodied' with that 'Freakum Dress' all while collaborating with Jay-Z. This album proves she knows how to throw a party and has mastered her presence as a solo artist. If this is how Beyonce celebrates a B-Day, who really needs cake, candles or drinks. 6. Gwen Stefani -- 'Love. Angel. Music. Baby.' Ever since Gwen brought us 'Hollaback Girl,' we've been impressed with her solo power. The album's '70s pop throwbacks and hip-hop beats make it stand up against No Doubt's 'Rock Steady' return. Scissor Sisters5. Scissor Sisters -- 'Scissor Sisters' For many of you, it's the best party album of the decade that you've likely never heard. A contagious synthesis of glam, disco and alternative rock powered by vocals that stretch from Elton John kitsch to Justin Timberlake swagger. All of that, plus a club-thumpin cover of Pink Floyd's 'Comfortably Numb.' 4. Kelly Clarkson -- 'Breakaway' 'Since U Been Gone' cemented 'Breakaway' as Clarkson's best album yet, proving she's more than just another 'American Idol.' The rock'n'roll pop tracks dig deeper, proving the innocence from her debut 'Thankful' is long gone.3. Gorillaz -- 'Demon Days' A side project doesn't usually hit gold, but this Gorillaz's album actually hit platinum and turned into a surprise worldwide hit. Blending hip-hop and pop beats, this album is genius and we still can't get enough of the band's first single, 'Feel Good Inc.' Kanye West2. Kanye West -- 'The College Dropout' Before his ego consumed him, Kanye West's debut was a musical masterpiece. When it comes down to it, this album may wash away all of Kanye's blunders, as it stands above the rest with 'Jesus Walks' and 'All Falls Down.' 1. Justin Timberlake -- 'FutureSex/LoveSounds' 'Justified' showed us that the former boy-bander could make it on his own. But it was 'FutureSex/LoveSounds' that put him on the map as one of the great talents of his generation with hits like 'SexyBack' and 'What Goes Around.' www.popeater.ca/2009/12/01/top-albums-decade/

Somehow it seems strange we've gone this long without a hint of what the next single is even though AG is still peaking... I think it should still be IICHY- AIEW is too "easy-listening' although it's a good track- maybe if the next single does well, she can end the era by releasing "Cry" as the last single.

There's no reason to announce another single before the holidays, when it's still not 100% clear if AG has peaked yet and it's still a runaway #1 on HAC.
This album could so easily put out another 3 singles even if the plan is to release the next album in fall 2010, but at this point I'm betting on just one last single to be released after the holidays.
We'd usually hear Kelly say something early, and that does worry me that maybe this will be the last single, but it may also be either that she's still fighting the label over what to release or has just given up on the process. But according to the Express she did say at one of the recent shows how thankful she was for AG hitting #1, so she obviously still takes pride in seeing her singles succeed commercially.

I've been steaming in the lounge for the past hour. Seriously, it's insane, and it's not just in the Kelly threads. I know I need to ignore... Moving on, do you guys really think there's gonna be no 4th single? There's no way, after all there were even "4-ish" from MD. They have to go with one more, at least I hope so.

I'm fairly ignorant when it comes to the music business but I'm almost certain there's going to be another single. She's still got the world tour to promote right after the holidays are over. I'd be happy with DLMSY or IICHY as the fourth and final single. Since Kelly has alluded to a fall release for her 5th album effort, I doubt there will be a fifth single.

IDK I feel like there is a chance AG will close out the era, the situation is similiar to Jordin's debut. Third single getting very good airplay, but single sales are inexplicably low, while album sales also fail to see a rise. I know they are on different labels, but if RCA deems releasing a 4th single not economically viable, which it may not be, then we won't get one. Maybe when Kelly says next fall, she means September, which could mean a single for that album in June, which would make releasing a 4th single from AIEW a long shot, no pun intended.

The question I've never been able to figure even a rough answer to is, how much does it cost to promote a single off an existing album (including the cost of shooting a video), and thus how much revenue does the single have to bring in in single sales and extra album sales to justify releasing one?
I know there are other considerations - on the one hand, a label can only promote so many singles at once; on the other, a single that makes little money can help long-term promotion of the artist (in Kelly's case I have zero trust that RCA wants to do anything to promote her that doesn't bring them instant cash, including promoting her tours, as IIRC the label doesn't make much/any money from the tour). But I wish I knew what kind of sales they need to turn a profit on a single.

I just want one more music video this era so we can get one with Kelly's brown/red hair!

I'd just rather they end the era with a huge radio hit so they can get another one with the first single of the next album, rather than release it, watch it struggle, but get to Top 20, just for the sake of it - then leaving a bitter aftertaste to the era.

If by some chance Already Gone wins a Grammy, we can definitely count on it hanging onto the charts for a few more weeks :) Hopefully, that will be the case.

If they don't want to release another single for the US... well... shoot a video for IICHY for Australia/Europe... I can totally picture a redhead Kelly for IICHY, and Europe could totally use another single, given the fact that AG was pretty much ignored

Long Shot for 4th single. IDNHU covered the Katy Parry rejected single. IICHY or DLSY should be the next single.

Yeah, it's nearly two months away. Not only that, but that particular category hasn't even been aired on TV since the last time Kelly won it in 2006. Hopefully they'll bring it back to the broadcast for this year.

Well, if Beyonce, Pink, and Kelly are all nominated in that Best Pop Female Vocal Performance category, I have a feeling they would show that award on the Grammys live just because Beyonce is such a ratings draw. The only problem for Kelly is that based on the Grammy Awards predictions I have read thus far, Beyonce is expected to do very, very well, which means in a 'Halo' vs. 'Already Gone' battle, Beyonce would probably win, lol.

I can imagine how furious Kelly would get if Halo happens to get a nomination where AG could have also been nominated. Even worse, if both songs happen to get nominated for the same category and Halo wins it. I can just imagine Kelly's rant.

When she was dissing Ryan Tedder about the whole 'Already Gone'/'Halo' drama, she always came to Beyonce' defence. Therefore,I do not think Kelly would not rant publicly about Beyonce if she won, lol. At least I would hope not

I'm curious about the fourth single too, but I think it's important to remember that Kelly's albums have never come out when they were initially announced--not one. So, I'm taking the fall 2010 release with a grain of salt until we get a first single haha.
As for Grammy's, I can only hope she snags a few nominations. I'm not sure a win is in the cards for her this time, though that would be fantastic for her and the album. I think AG is more Grammy worthy in every possible way than Halo, but Beyonce is certainly more of a Grammy favorite.
I think it'd be even more interesting if Halo and AG are nominated and AG actually won. And by interesting, I mean it'd be incredibly obnoxious to be on this board for a while (or, ever), because I'm sure people would have a field day with saying she got a Grammy for a song that she made such a stink about with the Tedder thing, despite the fact that she wrote more of the song and has always loved it on its own merit.

It's the beginning of December, which can only mean one thing: It's time to start griping about the Grammys. The annual awards race - and the complaints - officially begin Wednesday night when major nominees for the 52nd Grammys are named during a one-hour special airing at 9 p.m. (8 p.m. Central) on CBS. The annoyingly titled Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! Countdown to Music's Biggest Night - broadcast from Los Angeles and hosted by LL Cool J - will also feature performances by Black Eyed Peas, Sugarland, Maxwell and Nick Jonas's new side project The Administration. The awards get handed out Jan. 31 at L.A.'s Staples Center. But you don't have to be The Mentalist to guess who's going to walk away with nominations Wednesday. Here are some safe bets: * Lady Gaga: While ironically ineligible for best new artist (because she was nominated last year in the dance category), Gaga could easily be this year's Amy Winehouse, thanks to the runaway success of her album The Fame Monster. * Beyonce: Last year's I Am ... Sasha Fierce might not snag a nod, but you can count on her single Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) to be in the running. * Taylor Swift: The cat-eyed country-pop cutie was shut out last year despite performing at the nominations concert - perhaps because, near as anyone can tell, she simply cannot sing - but the undeniable success of her latest CD Fearless should guarantee her a spot this time. * U2: Whether you liked No Line on the Horizon or not, they're the biggest band in music. And let's face it, the music biz needs all the help it can get these days. * Green Day: Their 21st Century Breakdown wasn't quite as groundbreaking as American Idiot, but it was ambitious enough to earn them some Grammy love. * Kanye West: His electronica-based album 808s and Heartbreak was artistically and commercially risky. Besides, what's an award show with Kanye storming the stage? * Eminem: Expect the real Slim Shady to stand up and accept a nomination for Relapse, his first studio album in five years. * Black Eyed Peas: I gotta feeling tonight's going to be a good night for will.i.am, Fergie and whoever those other two guys are. * Maxwell: His latest CD BLACKsummers'night CD - his first album in eight years - earned the R&B crooner rave reviews. Plus, he's playing the nominations concert. Duh. * Whitney Houston: Her Clive Davis-produced comeback I Look to You was released early to meet this year's Aug. 31 qualifying deadline. Everybody loves a comeback. And fears Davis. There are plenty of other big names to look for tonight: The Pretenders, Fall Out Boy, Morrissey, Jay-Z, Kings of Leon, Zac Brown, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Dead Weather, Wilco, AC/DC, M.I.A., Bruce Springsteen, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry :), Nickelback, Owl City, Pink :) , Phoenix and, of course, Michael Jackson (if you don't think they'll find some trophy to give him, you're kidding yourself).Meanwhile, the American Recording Academy has already announced the names of some guaranteed winners - their songs and albums are being inducted into the Hall of Fame. They include The Beach Boys (California Girls), Bob Marley (Catch a Fire), George Carlin (Class Clown), James Brown (It's a Man's Man's Man's World), Janis Joplin (Pearl), The Doors (Riders on the Storm) and many more. As well, Winnipeg-raised legend Neil Young has been selected as the 2010 MusiCares Person of the Year in recognition of both his artistic achievements and philanthropic work. He will be honoured at a Jan. 29 gala that will include performances by CSN, Sheryl Crow, Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, k.d. lang, Dave Matthews, Red Hot Chili Peppers, James Taylor, John Mellencamp, Wilco, Jackson Browne and Josh Groban. www.torontosun.com/entertainment/music/2009/12/01/11998411.html

Clive's involvement is reason enough to root against Whitney. Even though I otherwise have nothing against Whitney, and am kind of sad at how her talent has been squandered.

Kelly sang Maybe in Fresno last night, apparently at the request of a fan who'd flown in all the way from Brazil. It sounds great:
She also did the Rock With Me duet with Eric Hutchinson again

How completely awesome of Kelly to sing a song by request for an awesome fan that came from Brazil! I wish I had been there, that is my favorite song from MD other than Sober.
I asked earlier but not sure if it got answered. Is Sober now in the setlist or was it just temporary? I go to the concert on Saturday and hope to hear it but am not going to get my hopes up too much.

Seems to be singing it every night, so I'd say yes.
Express also cited somebody on Twitter saying Kelly said last night that she can't wait to get done with the last two albums on her RCA contract so she can be done with those a**holes.
I really hope RCA gets new management before then, because Kelly deserves better than to spend the next few years at war with her label and then have to go through all the legal hassles of changing labels. At this point, unless there's a dramatic turnover in who runs the label and how they deal with Kelly, she seems pretty determined to escape the place.

I don't think anyone has asked if "Sober" is permanent. I hope it is because this rendition is unbelievable and I want to see it in New Orleans. About the label, she also said that she'd love to record some bluesy stuff but the label won't let her. "Maybe" sounded great!! Kelly really does go the extra mile for her fans.

Thanks Wallace, I sure hope she sings it this weekend!!!
I am not sure if Kelly really said that to someone. I certainly believe it is how she feels but it seems random she would just say that to some fan or something.
If she wants to get done she should just do one more album then a singles album. She has had more than enough hit singles to put out an album and she can do a couple of new songs for that album to help sell it.
