I don't know. A white artist hasn't topped the Hot 100 in a while. To answer your question I'm not sure. If I had to guess I would say that these artist may have topped Urban/Urban AC:
Lisa Stansfield "Been Around The World" George Michael
Oh, I know that Teena Marie has topped Urban on more than one occassion, somebody help me out.

It was probably Lisa Stansfield with "You Can't Deny It" in 1991.

Clay was the last white person to be #1 on the Hot 100 with "This Is the Night" which got there basically all due to sales of the CD single, and that was back in early June, before "Crazy in Love" started its 8 week run on top

An artist named White Boy has 7 spins on CHR-Rhythmic. Could "Lose Yourself" be the last Number 1 by a white person on CHR-Rhythmic? What teen pop songs (if any) got to Number 1 on CHR-Rhythmic from 1997 to 2000? There's also the remixes by the Hispanic Jennifer Lopez. People name Lisa Stansfield and George Michael but nobody thought of my more recent examples? Naming older artists, it was posted that Madonna started out on CHR-Rhythmic but I don't know remember the positions that were posted because it was posted way too long ago. It didn't get to Number 1, but CHR-Rhythmic played Panjabi MC who isn't black and doesn't speak English.

The question was Urban and Rhythmic which is much more of an impressive feat. I understand that, but I wasn't necessarily answering the question in my post. I was responding to jlh's original question, and RR Music Guy's response that Clay 'just' hit #1 on the Hot 100, but that was 8 months ago, so...

There really hasn't been a white artist at #1. White artists don't appeal ot Urban and Rhythmic listeners...with Eminem being the acception. I'm sure that will change though. They just haven't come out with any white artists who are really a draw outiside of the pop/rock/ac communities. THere hasn't been a black artist at #1 on Hot AC/AC in a year. Same difference.

There really hasn't been a white artist at #1. Yes there has been. Before the mid-90's, it wasn't that hard for a white artist to get to #1 with an urban influenced song.

Well I would expect the next American Idol winner(s)'s singles to be released in June or July, and if they release a single for Clay's third single which they said what they would do when they cancelled the "Invisible" single that could be before June or July (this post is for the Billboard Hot 100).

yes, Alicia, Faith, and Mariah are all mixed Eminem is the only white artist within the last few years to find regular success on these formats. Christina had more appeal at these formats before the "Stripped" era. Justin Timberlake doesn't fair too badly. But as for #1... I'm sure Eminem was the last one.
