[My Life Is A Stereo]

This is getting Alternative play in Canada (yes they are a Canadian band). I absolutely LOVE the song but I want to know if you guys think that it would get any love in the US but only if it was done by a known band because we all know that its pretty tough to get breakthrough without massive push or being around forever and finally getting noticed. This is the kind of sound that seems missing on alternative radio for a few years at least to a larger extent

So please take a listen and let me know what you think. And I'm not trying to be any kind of street teamer, this is really just one song recently that I really wondered about especially considering the chances are good that most people outside Canada will never hear it.

well I agree, it deserves a US shot but there are so many huge Canadian Rock hits that never get any recognition. Leaving opinions aside, these are some big CanCon bands that are better than a lot of US bands that just never caught on because of them being Canadian

State Of Shock, The Trews, Stabilo, Mobile, The Stills, The Tea Party, Ten Second Epic, Marianas Trench, Faber Drive, Hedley, Silverstein, Bedouin Soundclash, Gob, illScarlett, Matt Mays & El Torpedo, etc

You can also throw Billy Talent and Tragically Hip in to a lesser extent, as they've each had like a hit in the US then fell off the radar for no reason, even though they've each produced much bigger hits than the ones that hit in the US

The Hip screwed themselves for US recognition in the early 90's BUT at the same time they never seemed to care. Once MTV refused to air the video for "Locked In the Trunk Of a Car" they basically never tried for mainstream US success after that.

I'm not arguing that this band should get US attention ahead of any of those bands (okay maybe a few who I wouldnt see on rock radio as much as pop). I more just was curious about this one song, hell, I've never even heard anything else from this band. I just find something about this song really REALLY good and wondered if the song (not so much the band yet) would do well if promoted to US alternative.

I wonder who's incompetence it comes down to for Canadian bands though. Is it the labels who don't promote them correctly or hard enough, focusing on other, sometimes lesser US bands. At the same time their are a lot of UK rock bands that are great and hardly see the light of day on US radio ie) Biffy Clyro, Starsailor, Athlete and bunch of other bands that I'm not going to go into details listing. In my world, Rock radio in the UK and Canada comes closer to my overall tastes. There are bands from the States I love but there is also a lot of garbage (at least to me) that gets pushed over better songs from lesser known bands.

Thank god I don't have to be a slave to radio.

I don't know if I would necessarily classify lack of commercial break through as "incompetence". What it all comes down to is money. Record labels are making less and less money these days, so there is less money out there to properly promote bands. Labels generally prioritize the finite money they have to bands they feel can make them money. There are a lot of great bands out there who get ignored by major labels and mainstream radio and quite a few mediocre bands who get radio hits. It usually boils down to actively promoting bands who the record label feels is the most marketable and most able to make the label money.

Marketability is certainly not my main priority in determining who I listen to, but it is a priority of record labels trying to make profits in an especially bad economy.

I'd buy that if it hadn't been going on for years and years and years. In the end though it doesn't matter too much as long as the bands get success somewhere and are still able to build careers without having to be successful on the American music scene as much.
