.3....4....7...Talking Out Of Turn - Moody Blues .8....8....5...Those Good Ole Dreams - Carpenters 38...35...11...Wired For Sound - Cliff Richard * The Moody Blues released three great singles from "Long Distance Voyager", but I think TOOT was the best. Did the first two do as well on your top 40? Seeing Karen Carpenter in your top ten is no surprise. Did all 5 singles from "Made In America" chart? "Wired For Sound" should've been a national hit! It may have been his best single during the early 1980's.

Number one's are in red.
1986 marked the year with the smallest point total for the number one song. (2009 will set a new record, though). The race was close, too. PC/AG were at #20 the final week of 1986. If they had charted at #15 or higher, TNTIF would have been the biggest hit of the year.
Since 1978, no artist has ever had the number one song of the year more than once on my chart. Whitney Houston was #1 in 1986 and has finished at #2 three times since.
Way down at #61 was "Somewhere Out There" by Linda Ronstadt & James Ingram, the final chart topper of 1986. The song would remain on the chart for over six months, even returning to #1 the following March and would finish 1987 at #1.

UU-BRU Radio Playlist For Week Ending December 19, 1981 01 01 Foreigner Waiting For A Girl Like You (3rd of 6 weeks at #1) 10 10 Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Hooked On Classics (LP version) 11 09 Olivia Newton-John Physical 27 26 Balance Falling In Love 29 14 Ann-Margret Everybody Needs Somebody Sometimes 39 ** David Stewart & Barbara Gaskin It's My Party TOP TEN ALBUMS 10 10 Journey Escape I skipped #19! "If I Needed You" by Emmylou Harris & Don Williams dropped from #16 It's obvious from your chart that ONJ took a backseat to Foreigner with their latest singles, which is opposite of what happened in Billboard. On my chart, I guess it was a tie since both singles spent one week at #1. Interesting that you charted the LP version of "Hooked On Classics". Was it that way from the time it debuted or did your hear the LP version after the single version charted? Based on the LP version charting, I would have almost thought the LP would be in the top 10 of your LP chart. On my singles chart, you certainly wouldn't be able to tell based on the minor movement of the song this week, but it ended up spending 5 weeks at #1 and the LP would spend 3 weeks at #1. So I also very much appreciated the LP version. I also charted the Balance & Emmylou Harris singles. Beautiful tunes. The Ann-Margret single was quite a stunner since I hadn't been used to seeing obscure disco songs on your chart. Maybe from blfdguy1, but you? :) Good song. And although I never got into the "It's My Party" remake (I am a big Leslie Gore fan and love the originals), I know it was a huge single overseas and cool to see it show up on your chart. I was checking to see where you had "Don't Stop Believin" by Journey this week since that song has really become a popular again the past few years. A bit surprised to discover it wasn't there, yet the LP it was from was in the Top 10 of your LP chart. What's the story on that?

.3....4....7...Talking Out Of Turn - Moody Blues .8....8....5...Those Good Ole Dreams - Carpenters 38...35...11...Wired For Sound - Cliff Richard * The Moody Blues released three great singles from "Long Distance Voyager", but I think TOOT was the best. It may have been his best single during the early 1980's. I thought the entire "Long Distance Voyager" LP was fantastic. It really showed with the LP being a former #1 on my LP chart and the singles peaking as follows: Gemini Dream #2 The Voice #5 Talking Out Of Turn #3 4 of the 5 singles from the "Made In America" LP charted. The only one that didn't was because I wasn't charting in the late 70's when "I Believe You" was released. But 3 out of the 4 singles released in the 80's were Top 10 songs on my chart and the LP spent 9 weeks at #1 on my LP chart, which makes it one of the longest running #1 LPs in the 80's. If I would have posted my Top 13 LPs this week instead of only the Top 10 LPs, you would have found two Carpenters LPs: 11...11...25 Made In America - Carpenters ** 12...12....4 Take If Off - Chic 13...14....4 Christmas Portrait - Carpenters ** "Wired For Sound" most certainly should have been a national hit like it was in the UK. Not only did the single make my Top 10 but the LP "Wired For Sound" was a former #1 LP.

I have to say, this is one of the coolest threads I've seen.
I have an affinity for pretty much all pop and rock music from the 60's to the 90's. I remember so many of these songs as I grew up a child of the 80's. I remember creating my first chart in the spring of 1988 but it didn't last long. I always wished now that I had continued because there are so many songs that are more obscure now that I have forgotten about and wish I could look up again. I started a chart in 2005 that has run every week up to the present. Mostly now my main chart consists of rock and alternative, Im not as much into the pop sound of today.
I was wondering (and I totally understand if nobody is cool with it) if any or all of you might have your charts loaded to computer and would be willing to send them to me so that I might be able to find some of those obscure and retro songs that i've forgotten or maybe even missed out on. I would mostly be looking for any and all years between 1982 and 1992. I would totally appreciate but would understand if you're not willing to share quite that much.
If you might be able to do that though could you send me a message on here and I'll send you my email address. Thanks in advance and I look forward to seeing the retro charts go up and hopefully can do a little commenting, even if I can't add any charts to it.

This weeks AT40 The 80s show is from 10/24/81, an since I dont have any '81 charts, I'll post the 10 year advance. I have a bigger challenge in that I permanently stopped charting about a month prior in 1991 to care for a family member with a serious health issue. Since many of the songs would have still be active the next month, I will go ahead and post my final chart. I look at this chart to try to determine where I was heading musically if the crisis did not happen in my life. It appears that nothing would have changed. I would have continued to enjoy a variety of music from all genres: AC, Pop, rock, soul, country & even rap. About every type of music is represented in this chart, so I guess it was a fitting way to say goodbye. August 30, 1991: TW LW TWK .1....4....4...The Gift of Love - Bette Midler .2....2....8...3am Eternal - KLF .3....5....6...Hole Hearted - Extreme .4....8....4...Siva - Smashing Pumpkins .5...10....4...Motownphilly - Boyz II Men .6....1....9...My Special Child - Sinead O'Connor .7....3...11...Crazy - Seal * .8...17....3...Real Real Real - Jesus Jones .9...13....5...I Adore Mi Amor - Color Me Badd 10...15....4...Pandora's Box - OMD 11...12....6...My Name Is Not Susan - Whitney Houston 12...14....5...You Come To My Senses - Chicago 13...11....7...Say It With Love - Moody Blues 14....9....8...Nights Like This - After 7 15...21....3...Medicine Man - Aldo Nova 16...16....7...Now That We Found Love - Heavy D & The Boyz 17...22....3...Golden Slumbers - Jackson Browne & Jennifer Warnes 18....6...10...Unforgettable - Natalie Cole 19....7...12...There She Goes - The La's * 20...24....3...Satisfied - Squeeze 21...26....3...Living With A Law - Chris Whitley 22...30....2...She's Gone (Lady) - Steelheart 23...31....2...I Can't Wait Another Minute - Hi-Five 24...18...10...Love And Understanding - Cher * 25...32....2...God Gave Rock n Roll To You - Kiss 26...33....2...Running Back To You - Vanessa Williams 27...20...14...It Ain't Over Til It's Over - Lenny Kravitz * 28...29....3...Let The Beat Hit Em - Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam 29...28...11...(Everything I Do) I Do It For You - Bryan Adams 30..---....1...Somewhere In My Broken Heart - Billy Dean 31..---....1...All I Have - Beth Nielson Chapman 32..---....1...Love...Thy Will Be Done - Martika 33..---....1...Lies - EMF 34...34....2...Timeless Melody - The La's 35...35....2...Jet City Woman - Queensryche 36..---....1...Living In The Light - Caron Wheeler 37..---....1...Get Off - Prince & The New Power Generation 38...36...13...Together Forever - Lisette Melendez * 39...27...11...Temptation - Corina 40...39...13...Kiss Them For Me - Siouxsie & The Banshees I've seen that Five Heartbeats movie with After 7 song, about 50 times. But keep checking back and hopefully we will uncover a long lost song you haven't thought about in 25 years.

UU-BRU Radio Playlist Top 100 of 1986 I thought it would be interesting to compare our Top 100 songs of 1986. Here are the songs represented in both of our charts: artist/title/your chart/my chart Bananarama - Venus 77,47 Bangles - If She Knew What She Wants 56,38 Bangles - Walk Like An Egyptian 27,34 Barbra Streisand - Somewhere 24,17 Barbra Streisand - Send In The Clowns 78,18 Cyndi Lauper - True Colors 23,28 Device - Hanging On A Heart Attack 91,41 El DeBarge - Who's Johnny 51,73 Heart - These Dreams 13,45 Heart - Nothin At All 20,72 Hooters - Where Do The Children Go? 19,31 Janet Jackson - When I Think Of You 11,10 Janet Jackson - Nasty 26,11 Janet Jackson - What Have You Done For Me Lately 68,4 Julian Lennon - Stick Around 57,62 Laura Branigan - I Found Someone 92,80 Linda Ronstadt & James Ingram - Somewhere Out There 61,86 Madonna - Live To Tell 8,7 Madonna - Papa Don't Preach 32,21 Miami Sound Machine - Falling In Love 90,30 Neil Diamond - Headed For The Future 87,63 Patti Labelle & Michael McDonald - On My Own 4,66 Patti Labelle - Oh People 93,69 Paul Simon - You Can Call Me Al 95,56 Peter Cetera & Amy Grant - Next Time I Fall In Love 2,71 Peter Cetera - The Glory Of Love 76,76 Prince - Kiss 31,90 Simple Minds - Sanctify Yourself 70,61 ZZ Top - Velcro Fly 100,35 What is the likelihood that we would have a song at the exact same number (Peter Cetera at #76). Interesting to see the number of songs on both of our charts that never made the Billboard Top 40: Barbra Streisand - Somewhere 24,17 Barbra Streisand - Send In The Clowns 78,18 Laura Branigan - I Found Someone 92,80 Neil Diamond - Headed For The Future 87,63 If we looked at an average to come up with the Top Songs Of 1986 when combining both of our charts, we would find the Record Of The Year going to: Madonna - Live To Tell 8,7 And a close runner-up: Janet Jackson - When I Think Of You 11,10 Janet Jackson receives Artist Of The Year: Janet Jackson - When I Think Of You 11,10 Janet Jackson - Nasty 26,11 Janet Jackson - What Have You Done For Me Lately 68,4 Top Single by a Group or Duo is a nice surprise: Hooters - Where Do The Children Go? 19,31 Of course, if someone else posts their Top 100 of 1986, then these results may change.

My year ender of 86 is allready up on the internet, my 86 of 86, which can be found here: lionking.org/~shadow/arc/86.htm I compiled this list back in 1986 but didnt really use any methodology. Basically its ranked by who has the most weeks at peak combined w/ most weeks on the chart. I have yet to go back to recalculate it based on the inverse point formula I now have.

I'm not sure what category we're on this week (or if we're still on year end hiatus)... but like The Joker's Wild, I'm gonna go off the board and post mine from 20 years ago this week :)

.1....1....9...Oh Father - Madonna * 11...12....7...Downtown Train - Rod Stewart Interesting to see Madonna at #1 with "Oh Father". OF would peak at #4 on my chart, breaking Madonna's string of 18 consecutive top 3 single releases dating back to "Borderline". Rod Stewart would reach #1 with "Downtown Train". Patty Smyth had a top ten hit in 1987 with her version. I would really like to hear Bob Seger's cover which has been in the vault since 1989.

I'm noticing quite a few songs we have in common on our charts from this time period. Also noticing quite a few songs that you guys are charting NOW that I had already charted back in November (refer to my chart from 11/11/89 posted back on page 6 of this thread). I was always listening to "Future Hits" an Like it or spike it/make it or break it/new music challenge/battle of the new songs - type things. Kept my chart pretty fresh.
