Thom goes solo....to sound like Moby.....at least musically. Good thing he's still got his voice to go with it. I'll be surprised to see this go anywhere on US charts because its actually very very stripped down and then gets a little existential near the end. North American radio in general will not eat this up.

I don't know if I'll end up buying it or not, just because September is packed with stuff I want, but this single is coming from what looks like an absolutely awesome tribute album to Mark Mulcahy. Besides Yorke, artists appearing include Michael Stipe, Dinosaur Jr., Frank Black, and Ben Kweller. It's on Shout! Factory. Here's Amazon.com's product description:
The Amazon page also has clips up, and they sound awesome.
As to this particular song, I appreciate what Yorke has done and I think it works well. I agree that it doesn't exactly have huge radio appeal, but I think it could at least scrape the chart. For anyone who hasn't heard the original Miracle Legion version:

I used to be in a comedic hiphop group called Ninjas N Da Hood. I was the only one who would write the songs. However, one day, the rest of the guys in the group weren't really happy with me getting all the credit, so they decided to split and do their own thing, which never got off the ground, except for a few crappy demos they recorded and, I think, are still floating around on MySpace somewhere. I, however, continued to write and record until recently, when I began college, with the hope of someday actually forming my own rock band. So yeah.
Why are you pen(ance)?

My AIM name was Penance3231. It's not now, but Pen has pretty much become my name on the net, so I keep it. I like it to refer to writing now. As for why Penance in the first place, that's personal and I don't feel comfortable with sharing that here. That's cool though that you did that. If there's one thing the hood lacks right now, it's ninjas.

I like Pen because it is appropriate for your place on this board. It speaks of intelligence and contemplation, which I would say is suitable. Your, My Life Is A Stereo's, and Noah's opinions have taken on a different level of respect on this board. This is different than the other forums on this board. CHR/POP is a circus. There must be more intelligence here. I'm guessing Nicholas 2.0 is named Nicholas Jr in real life? |

FAIL! Nope. I'm guessing Nicholas 2.0 is named Nicholas Jr in real life? When I first set up an account at the old R&R boards, I just went by my first name, Nick, since I knew I'd be posting a lot and didn't have a longstanding nickname I could turn into a screen name. When R&R closed its message board and Pulse was created in its wake, I chose to use my full name and add a 2.0 on. |
