You Got It/Roy Orbison
I Could Fall In Love/Selena
How Deep Is Your Love/The Bee Gees (Maurice Gibb)
Kind of a surprise that they were generous with the AT10 Archive songs, yet there were only six songs by artists who have passed on. What about Harry Chapin or Robert Palmer or Elvis Presley or others who have passed away? Maybe they'll do this spotlight feature again before long, because I imagine they're sort of running out of ideas.
It was appropriate for them to choose Memorial Day weekend to feature artists who are no longer with us, since we're remembering war veterans who gave their lives to help save our country. It's been awhile since I've heard Jim Croce's "Operator" (and I know of at least one guy on these boards who loves that song a lot) and "Let's Get It On". I've heard "How Deep Is Your Love" and "Something" quite frequently in the past few months, but that's because I have a tape with both of those songs on it.
They sure were keen on 1999 for the archive feature, as they did that year three times. 1999 wasn't even that good of a year (but that's my opinion). They're still doing songs from the 1960s and even did two from 1971. They cut out the second verse of "Maggie May" (hmm, didn't AT10/AT20 used to loop songs instead?), but that's OK; it's not like I never hear that song anymore).
As for the countdown, well, surprise, surprise - no new songs. The bottom part of the chart has no movement whatsoever. The top part of the chart is rather interesting (well, by A/C standards, anyway). Martina McBride, who practically fell out of the chart about a month ago, breaks into the Top Five with "This One's For The Girls", the biggest mover of this week (which Casey didn't mention, probably because it was only up two spots). Could this song be a future number one song? I think it has a shot. I actually like the song (especially the line "Living on dreams and Spaghettios". A shameless plug for Franco American, perhaps?)
Well, let's hope that Lionel Richie or someone else is able to break into the Top Ten next week! I mean, we all know it ain't gonna happen, but we can dream, can't we?
