This song is SO hot. Yeah it may be a little generic but it has a nice flow to it that I think radio should catch onto. I'm surprised it's moving so slowly actually.

Song is up to #15 today. It is possible that it may make top 10 this week. Even if radio is not embracing it, the general public seems to like it.
Video has been #3 for awhile now as well.

What I like about this song is it is simple. It has potent appeal without trying too hard. Plus only three minutes long.

Well no he doesn't, but his verse is easily the one low point on the song.

Well no he does and it's obvious that his verse is easily the low point of the song. Everything else is listenable though, I like "anything you want in the world" hook. But yeah Lil Wayne and all rent-a-rappers suck on pop songs.

I actually feel his verse here fits a lot better than most of his features which at times are flat-out awkward (Can't Believe It as a strong example).

I may be a bit biased as I hate rent-a-rappers so much because I grew up with it being so popular, but I can't stand rappers on pop tracks. Especially when they're token and just used for no reason or benefit what so ever. It doesn't help that I hate his rapping style as well.

Still loving this. Makes me realize how much the quality of top 40 music has fallen from 06-07 to 08-09...

BTW I agree about the declining quality; 2007 was probably the peak year for pop music this decade.

The Top 40 chart looks like it is finally playing pop music again instead of being overly affected by urban/hip-hop or rhythmic heavy songs. Yeah it's pretty dance heavy but I would rather it be dance heavy with pop overtunes then for it to resemble the Urban and Rhythmic charts like it was doing in 01-07. I would considering 2008 to be the pinnacle of pop music for the decade. Bleeding Love, So What, Womanizer, Hot N Cold, ect. were all great pop tracks that brought pop back to the charts after having the chart bogged down with Rhythmic and Urban influenced songs infecting Top 40.

I preferred the atmospheric Timbaland sound to the more forward Red One style. That whole period was so electrifying to me. This might be because I've lived in Europe for most of this decade, but what's popular now, to me, is a real regurgitation of the stuff which I was hearing on the radio and in clubs there... People here might praise DSTM & Disturbia, but to me they couldn't be closer to the definition of generic...

I consider Loose, Shock Value, Future Sex/Love Sounds to be three of the best produced albums of the decade but to me that stuff isn't pop. It's Rhythmic and it belongs over there. Pop music is the stuff that has been coming out in 08/09. Top 40 is finally regulating itself to pop music like it should have been doing since 2000 granted it's more danced based pop music but still...it has been lost in this horrid shuffle of urban and rhythmic music from 01 until 07' where it has no place on Top 40, in my opinion.

But Monroe pop isn't as much a genre as it is a collection of POPular songs from all genres. I understand if an artist like Britney doesn't have a specific core genre then pop becomes the core genre... but the pure pop artists do have to share the title of pop.

To me, pop is essentially more streamlined and mixed versions of other genres. The majority of what is considered to be "pure pop" by some is, to me, a very streamlined version of rock and dance. Even if those elements are replaced with those of R&B or Country, I believe that it can still be considered pop. I guess I just preferred it when you couldn't lay nearly every top 40 song over the same beat. There's nothing wrong with enjoying it, but personally I can't wait for it to die down a bit.

I understand if an artist like Britney doesn't have a specific core genre then pop becomes the core genre... but the pure pop artists do have to share the title of pop. I don't agree with that. I think pop is a very identifiable kind of sound. I do think most pop songs are derived from other genre's, most pop songs are usually r and b or rock in origin and then they just structure them in a different way to get a "lighter" sound so that it's a derived form of that genre and thus it's "pop". But I do think pop music has certain characteristics. Pop music in general usually is lighter in terms of sound. It usually focuses predominantly on the chorus, there is a typical structure, there is a focus of melody, etc. But I do agree that most pop falls into it's own special subset of other genre's such as: pop-rock, dance-pop, randb-pop, urban-pop, teen-pop, and the like. I agree. I guess what I was trying to say was that there was music being played on Top 40 for a while that had no pop in them at all. There were a ton of 50 cent songs, tons of raps songs, etc. that got play where they shouldn't have gotten play. I feel the same goes for other artists like Alicia Keys, etc. who also got heavy Top 40 support when most of their stuff wasn't even pop.

I see where you're coming from, but to me putting emphasis on the hook and/or chorus (and more specifically, the melodic aspect) is part of the "streamlining". I'm not saying that is a good or a bad, I'm just stating it the way I am seeing and interpreting it. Stuff like multitracking, which is very common among mainstream pop artists, has also been used by less mainstream acts.
As for rap, it can be streamlined into pop as well, and that has been happening (and still is) for most of this decade. I considered In Da Club to be very pop friendly when it was out.

But to me pop would have NO appeal without potential for those unconventional hits... that's the whole reason pop excites me is because of the diversity. Leave the rigid selection to the other formats please and let pop have some freedom.

Leave the rigid selection to the other formats please and let pop have some freedom.I don't have a problem with cross-over hits as long as they fit what the formats supposed to be. Songs like You Belong With Me which crossed over from Country obviously had strong pop influences, and it was valid for it to be such a huge success but when the format doesn't even look like the format that it's supposed to represent (pop) then it's no longer the Pop or Top 40 mainstream chart to me any more. There were several times within this past decade that the CHR/Top 40 chart was unrecognizable at times. It pretty much looked incredibly similar to the Rhythmic and Urban charts earlier in this decade. And that is not what the Top 40 chart is supposed to look like.

I agree that oversaturation of a certain genre is not good, but I don't think there is ANY song that shouldn't be allowed on pop because of its format. If people like it, it's pop.

The song is SO bad and so 2006 I wouldn't say it is so bad...just neither here nor there. It just doesn't seem like a song someone would put out as a single
