"Naked" is not the kind of production I would have expected from Dr. Dre. It's sexy.

ebony.com/music/Lloyd.aspxAre You Ready For Another Round Of Seduction? Lloyd Takes You ThereBy Tiffany Walden Lloyd recently stopped by the EBONY office to promote his long-awaited album, King of Hearts, set to officially hit stores July 5. Known for his street-edged soulful vocals, Young Goldie, for those who follow him on Twitter, dared to be a little different with this new project. The “long-hair-don’t-care” persona is a thing of the past; he’s now sporting a new haircut after donating his beautiful mane to the Locks of Love charity for children with medical hair loss. The album’s first single, “Lay It Down,” shows that Lloyd hasn’t lost his ability to seduce any woman into his sheets or to peak in the Top 10 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop charts. He’s not holding anything back this time around but still keeping it hood for the streets. Now he can add rebellious to his portfolio with the leak of his track “Dedicated to My Ex (Miss That).” Reminiscent of a time when artists were banned from the radio for using profanity, or in his case, the p-word, Lloyd brings Andre 3000 and Lil Wayne on board for a buzz-worthy joint. “I think that it’s kind of like, women always get to have their songs about guys who are unfaithful but there are women out there who are just the same,” says Lloyd. “I think the fact that we used that word makes it dangerous. Just as Cee Lo’s ‘Fuck You,’ it was still a great record but it was like, ‘Oh, did he just say that?’” Die-hard Lloyd fans can also expect to hear the signature baby-making music track from Lloyd (remember ‘Feels So Right’ from his album South Side, ladies?). “Naked” is definitely one of the favorites, if not the driving force of the album. “My message is, you are so amazing when you’re naked; when you are who you really are, when all of the things that people have to hide, their insecurities or pain, is stripped away and they are just naked,” he says. The sweet saxophone working behind the high-hats, bass guitar and bass is enough to have any woman feeling good when she’s naked. In an industry filled with young male R&B cats possessing an overwhelming amount of sex appeal, Lloyd doesn’t feel threatened at all by the successes of Chris Brown and Trey Songz. Instead, he invited them to bless his album and to bring on a playful competition. “I think it speaks volumes for what I was trying to accomplish, which was to have the best on the same track, knowing that people will listen and try to compare us instantly,” he says. “Bedrock,” his Young Money collaboration in 2009, made many folks believe that he would sign-on with Lil Wayne’s label. Now signed to Polow Da Don’s Zone 4, Inc., a joint-venture with Interscope Records, Lloyd feels like he has found the right place for his music. “Polow Da Don is a producer, and I’m a singer,” he says. “I’m an artist and an artist needs a great producer to make music. I just wanted to go where I thought I would get the best music for my album.” Catch Lloyd on the I Am Still Music Tour this summer in a city near you.

www.billboard.com/news/lloyd-overcomes-label-drama-to-become-king-1005261472.story#/news/lloyd-overcomes-label-drama-to-become-king-1005261472.storyLloyd Overcomes Label Drama To Become 'King of Hearts'by Chris Yuscavage | July 01, 2011 LeBron James wasn't the only self-proclaimed "King" mulling over a big decision last year. After releasing his first three albums through music mogul/former reality star Irv Gotti's record label the Inc. (formerly known as Murda Inc.), R&B singer Lloyd (aka Lloyd Polite Jr.) asked to be released from the label due to creative differences in July 2009. The Atlanta-born singer then spent the rest of the year and the early part of 2010 looking for a new home. Thanks to the success of the 2009 track "Bed Rock" -- a song by Lil Wayne's Young Money collective that featured a catchy hook by Lloyd and reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 -- early speculation had Lloyd headed to Young Money's crowded roster. In March 2010, shortly after Lil Wayne went to jail in New York for weapons possession, Lloyd chose to go in a different direction and signed to super-producer and longtime friend Polow Da Don's label Zone 4, with distribution through Interscope. On July 6, Lloyd will release his fourth album, "King of Hearts," through Zone 4. "I was out in L.A. taking meetings with different labels and [Polow] called and asked me to come by his house," says Lloyd, 25, whose last album, "Lessons in Love," debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 when it was released nearly three years ago. "He played me some music and I was... inspired. I was reminded of why I wanted to make music in the first place. I decided to hold on to that feeling and sign with Polow." During the last 18 months, Polow has devoted nearly all of his energy to Lloyd's new project. In addition to executive-producing the album, Polow has had a hand in producing or co-producing every song on it, going so far as to hold string and horn sessions with different musicians and to call in background singers to help round out the sound and bring Lloyd's voice to life like never before. "I promised him my full dedication," says Polow, who has crafted chart-topping hits for everyone from Fergie and Ciara to Usher and 50 Cent. "So I stopped doing a lot of work with a lot of other artists. I usually have seven songs on the radio at the same time, but I shut down shop to focus on his album." The result is a cohesive album that has already started to make noise. The lead single, "Lay It Down," was released last August and peaked at No. 7 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The second single, "Cupid," was released in February and climbed as high as No. 14. And with an impressive lineup of big-name features-including Trey Songz and Young Jeezy, who appear on the third single, "Be the One"; André 3000 and Lil Wayne, who show up together on "Dedication to My Ex (Miss That)"; and R. Kelly and Keri Hilson, who jump on "World Cry"-the album has the potential to be a chart fixture for the rest of the year. "We really took our time getting the first two singles out there to show people what Lloyd and Polow could do together," Interscope executive VP of marketing and media relations Dennis Dennehy says. "We've used them to set up the album in its entirety." Both Lloyd and Polow are adamant about "King of Hearts" being more than just a pop-friendly R&B album that yields a couple of summer anthems and is then forgotten about after the project's final single. It was built, they say, to stand the test of time. "We've created something in the likes of what Justin Timberlake and Timbaland were able to create [on "FutureSex/LoveSounds"] and Usher and Jermaine Dupri were able to create [on "Confessions"]," says Lloyd, who is accompanying Lil Wayne on the second leg of the I Am Music 2 tour this summer to help promote the project. "You don't get something like this every day."

I didn't like this album at all :(...Basically Cupid is the only song loved, thee were a few that were decent (Luv Me Girl, Naked, Dedication is different..) his voice is too harsh and shrill on these tracks. Sad b/c he made me an immediate fan on Lessons In Love, but I couldn't get into this one. And all those grandiose statements he said above don't help his cause.

Dedication to My Ex (Miss That) Cupid Naked Jigsaw Shake It 4 Daddy Lay It Down Angel You II
I do believe this is his most solid and consistent album; I hope Polow pushes it like he did No Boys Allowed.

I am surprised by the hard beats/production on this album. I actually love that about it. Its not ballad filled. "Cupid" and "Bang" are my favorites right now.

www.nytimes.com/2011/07/05/arts/music/new-cds-by-david-weiss-and-lloyd-review.htmlNew CD by LloydNew York Times Published: July 4, 2011 LLOYD “King of Hearts” (Zone 4/Interscope) Lloyd would have been a world-killer in 1983, when soul was lightweight and slick, and all of the politics had been squeezed out. He has one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary R&B, a beautiful coo that rarely pushes harder than a whisper, and rarely has to. As it happens, Lloyd’s fourth album, “King of Hearts,” arrives in another era of slack-voiced soul men, like Chris Brown and Trey Songz, both of whom appear on this album. But while neither is a heavyweight, each outmuscles Lloyd, threatening his delicate ecosystem. Such is Lloyd’s conundrum: entrancing when unfettered, but at risk when subjected to even slightly powerful outside influences. His finest moment remains “Street Love,” from 2007, one of the frothiest R&B albums in recent memory. In places “King of Hearts” approaches that album’s cool breeze. It’s produced largely by Polow Da Don, who clearly sees Lloyd as something of a muse. He’s feeling the full range of his lushness here, from the exuberant horns on “Cupid” and a pointedly romantic sax on “Naked” to the clustered, mournful guitars on “This Is 4 My Baby.” But even Polow’s full arsenal doesn’t bring Lloyd focus, as seen in the pair of perplexing tracks that bookend this album, one phenomenal, one awkward. Coming first, following an intro, is “Dedication to My Ex (Miss That),” a hard stomp reminiscent of the nostalgic side of Outkast — say, the “Idlewild” soundtrack, or Andre 3000’s half of “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.” Andre 3000 appears on this song, but it’s Lloyd who sets the wistful mood, pining after a woman who’s left him for someone else with comically profane laments. It all works: the urge, the sass, the sleaze masked with the pitiable presentation. It’s as far as one can get from the album closer, “World Cry,” a political R&B track featuring R. Kelly, Keri Hilson and K’naan. It sounds like a charity single created in forced confinement, and shows that Lloyd shouldn’t get preoccupied with anything beyond his own pleasure. JON CARAMANICA

www.usatoday.com/life/music/reviews/2011-07-04-listenup-notables-lloyd_n.htmListen Up notables: Lloyd's 'King of Hearts'By Steve Jones, USA TODAY Lloyd, King of Hearts, three out of four stars On his fourth album, the smooth crooner deals himself into all sorts of relationships, from late-night quickies to more stable affairs. Producer Polow da Don provides most of the tracks and injects them with infectious thump, but it's Lloyd's energetic but smooth deliveries that create a diverse set of keepers. Chris Brown, Young Jeezy, Trey Songz and The Game make solid contributions, and Andre 3000 and Lil Wayne are hilarious on the ribald Kanye West-produced Dedicated to My Ex (Miss That). — Steve Jones

www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/quick-spin-king-of-hearts-by-lloyd/2011/07/01/gHQAS1w8xH_story.htmlQuick spin: ‘King of Hearts’ by LloydBy — Allison Stewart, Published: July 4 After years of B-list toil, Atlanta soul singer Lloyd has come up with The Song — the career-maker, the one that isn’t just a future smash, it’s a meme. “Dedication to My Ex (Miss That)” is the highlight of Lloyd’s fourth release, the perfectly nice if otherwise indistinct “King of Hearts.” A homage to Lloyd’s ex, or, more accurately, one of her unprintable Womanly Parts, it’s horribly wrong, incredibly offensive and ridiculously earwormy. It’s Lloyd’s “Hey Ya!” (and not just because Andre 3000 is on it, although that doesn’t hurt), his “Forget You,” and he sings as if his career depends on it, which it might. “Dedication” isn’t the first song to reduce a woman to a body part, although it’s the only track in memory to repeat the name of that part over and over and over until it sounds almost like a prayer. And it’s the first and only track on “King of Hearts” to inspire any kind of strong reaction at all. The rest is up-tempo, guest-star-heavy R&B that equally references Michael Jackson circa “Off the Wall” and Raphael Saadiq circa two months ago. Lloyd holds his own against guest stars such as Chris Brown (on the messy electro-R&B track “Luv Me Girl”) but runs up against the brick wall of pathos and self-pity that is R. Kelly on “World Cry.” It’s slow and obvious (“I hate to see the whole world cry,” goes the chorus; would anyone actually like to see the whole world cry? Or even just some of it?), but purposeful, a future telethon ballad waiting for its disaster to happen. — Allison Stewart Recommended Tracks “Be the One,” “Dedication to My Ex (Miss That)”

Finally! It is released. I did not know for sure whether or not this would be released this week taken that the CD has had so many setbacks. I hope this sells at least 75k.
