www.etonline.com/music/110617_PICS_ET_s_New_Music_Tuesday/index.html?photo=2Lloyd - King of Hearts (7/5/11) R&B crooner Lloyd drops his fourth studio album, King of Hearts, a record that shows the singer's versatility. With sweet but typical ballads like "Angel," in addition to how he equates love to a puzzle ("Jigsaw"), some could believe he's playing it safe with such cliched concepts. But with his smooth yet energetic delivery, coupled with tracks produced by Polow Da Don and Kanye West, who lent his talents to the song "Dedication to My Ex (Miss That)," this record could possibly be his most complete.

www.rap-up.com/2011/07/05/review-roundup-lloyd-king-of-hearts/REVIEW ROUNDUP: LLOYD – ‘KING OF HEARTS’Lloyd aims for the crown with King of Hearts, his fourth album and first since 2008’s Lesson in Love, boasting a royal lineup including André 3000, R. Kelly, Chris Brown, Trey Songz, and Keri Hilson. The smooth operator and executive producer Polow Da Don craft a star-studded set featuring everything from the hilariously raunchy “Dedication to My Ex (Miss That)” to the politically-minded “World Cry.” Did he deliver a winning hand? Find out below. USA Today: Producer Polow Da Don provides most of the tracks and injects them with infectious thump, but it’s Lloyd’s energetic but smooth deliveries that create a diverse set of keepers. 3/4 The New York Times: His finest moment remains Street Love, from 2007, one of the frothiest R&B albums in recent memory. In places King of Hearts approaches that album’s cool breeze. It’s produced largely by Polow Da Don, who clearly sees Lloyd as something of a muse. He’s feeling the full range of his lushness here, from the exuberant horns on “Cupid” and a pointedly romantic sax on “Naked” to the clustered, mournful guitars on “This Is 4 My Baby.” Los Angeles Times: Janelle Monáe, Katy B, The-Dream, Frank Ocean and even Beyoncé have delivered recent efforts that transcend the trappings of modern soul. Lloyd Polite could stand to follow their example and be a little ruder. 2.5/4 The Washington Post: Lloyd holds his own against guest stars such as Chris Brown (on the messy electro-R&B track “Luv Me Girl”) but runs up against the brick wall of pathos and self-pity that is R. Kelly on “World Cry.” It’s slow and obvious (“I hate to see the whole world cry,” goes the chorus; would anyone actually like to see the whole world cry? Or even just some of it?), but purposeful, a future telethon ballad waiting for its disaster to happen. The Village Voice: The album veers back and forth between unabashed romanticism (the joyously smitten “Cupid,” which follows “Dedication” on the album and very effectively wipes away all that song’s scorn), club-borne lust (“Bang!!!!,” which combines glitchy vocal effects, a mournful choral sample and an astonishing guest boast from the heretofore-unknown Salo), and the brooding, yet unleashed love songs that helped him initially break onto the scene (“Be the One”). The Boston Globe: The 24-year-old vocalist has an ace up his sleeve in superstar producer Polow Da Don, but the combination can’t deliver a winning hand with this thin set. The problem for Lloyd (beyond his limited range) is weak material, as the songs often never rise above generic booty stomps (“Bang!!!!”) or insipid love songs (“Jigsaw”). Rap-Up’s Favorite Tracks: “Dedication to My Ex (Miss That),” “Cupid,” “Be the One,” “Lay It Down”

12-25k was the initial report and HITS confirmed 20-25k; a little worse than I thought he would debut with but if Zone 4 pushes this album the way they pushed No Boys Allowed, I think it could sell well over time.

I just purchased two deluxe edition CDs at Target! :) The CDs were purchased on separate receipts so that the sales can count on SoundScan. LOL
Also, there were plenty of standard and deluxe edition CDs available at the store.

Oh...you're so sweet! Thank you RÉV0LUTI0N. :)
Lloyd really wanted this album to go number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart! :(
Lloyd and Polow worked so hard on this album. It's a great album and people shouldn't let the projected sales stop them from purchasing a great album.

Lloyd has fans all around the world. He visits so many countries promoting his music. When Lloyd visits these countries he makes sure that he is doing some type of media. Radio, TV, or Print.
Lloyd's CD is not available in international markets. The album is not on iTunes Worldwide. Also, the music videos from the "King of Hearts" album are not available for download on iTunes Worldwide.
Interscope did not release Lloyd's singles to UK radio. Lloyd visits the UK on a regular basis. The UK singles chart is based on sales and his singles were never available on iTunes in the UK.
The local radio stations in the Netherlands did a great job at promoting Lloyd's appearance in their country. This is yet another market that didn't have Lloyd's current singles available on iTunes.
Lloyd's "Lay It Down" peaked at #1 on the Japan iTunes Top R&B/Soul Songs chart and #18 on the Japan iTunes Top Songs chart. There are fans of R&B music in Japan. Japan is the #2 music market in the world. But Lloyd's CD is not available in Japan.
Japan is the only country outside the US and Canada that has "Lay It Down" available on iTunes.
These fans in the international markets feel so left out. They want to support Lloyd but, they can't because his album is not available in their countries.

^ That is HORRIBLE. Lloyd has done his part of promoting, touring, and performing. The label has to do their part as well. They are the ones investing and losing money.

He's one of the most consistent male R&B singers now, he always has hot singles and good albums (still haven't heard this yet though). Has he changed management teams in recent years? Because his last album was also badly handled but I remember he was doing a lot better with his first 2.

He just didn't have the promo, along with too many pushbacks. He should have released his album when "Lay It Down" was a huge hit. He's the type of artist that has to keep promoting because he doesn't have a stable enough following.

Lloyd has changed management once in his career. His first manager was Joyce Irby. She managed the teen R&B group that he was with called N-Toon. She was also his manager for the "Southside" album. Henry "Noonie" Lee is Lloyd's current manager who has been with Lloyd since the "Street Love" album.

Ugh. Just ugh. For some reason he just doesn't get the support he needs to get a better start and then maintain some longevity. Then when he flops it gives false support to the idea that there is a reason he didn't get the support. So frustrating! I just hate watching albums fall by the wayside due to simple inattention. His promo has felt almost nonexistent.
I do agree that the album should have been released when Lay It Down was at its peak, but if I recall correctly the album wasn't finished then? I thought that was the reason it didn't have a date then, because it didn't make sense to hold on to it otherwise.

I believe this album is on track for 1st week lackluster sales because of repeated push-backs and lack of promo.
I think this should have kept the April(?) date.
The album should have been out no later than late April/early May.
I never understood the final push-back to July 5th tbh, and i really haven't seen him anywhere but on 106 & Park promoting this.
Lloyd is the type of artist that needs a substantial hit, and promo to sell.
It sucks that the songs better this time around too.
Unfortunately, it looks like this album won't even end up selling half of what his previous one sold when it's all said and done.

www.singersroom.com/news/7282/Lloyd-Talks-Expression-Almost-Crying-More-While-Making-King-of-HeartsLloyd Talks Expression, Almost Crying, More While Making King of HeartsDate: 7/7/2011 Aleta Watson Lloyd continues his wave of successful albums with the release of his newest project 'King of Hearts'. Recorded under his new label, Interscope Records, the megastar was able to create a more dynamic album with a long list of features from Lil Wayne, Trey Songz, Young Jeezy, R. Kelly and Andre 3000, just to name a few. A confident Lloyd tells BoomBox, "We just wanted to come out swinging, we’ve got a lot of heavy hitters on the album — we have a lot of dangerous R&B, if you will." With the assistance of beat-master Polow Da Don, the album was projected for greatness back in January with the success of his 50 Cent-featured track 'Let's Get It In'. Lloyd credits Polow for crafting an album that reflected his new sound and style. His three-year hiatus is definitely marked by his personal and professional maturity. He explains, "I've just changed as a person. There are obviously changes you see on the outside, but I think those are reflections of the core of the person who is growing. I think there is a certain rebelliousness that I've learned to bottle in my music. I try to let it all out in the music now and I try not to bleed over into the things I do outside of the studio. I use that as my relief." Lloyd goes on to say, "With this music, you can almost hear my facial expressions. You can hear when I'm tight enough to hit that real high note, or you know I'm about to cry when I'm singing the lyrics to 'World Cry'." When asked about the restricted options associated with signing his new deal, Lloyd played it safe by saying, "...This is the year for building bridges and not putting up walls for me." Happy with his move to Interscope, Lloyd assures that this is a permanent move. "I’ll just continue to work on growing and developing with this newfound freedom at Interscope. Having the power to work with whomever I feel is something that I really look forward to exploring," he says. ‘King of Hearts’ infused rap, R&B and soul elements are sure to be one of Lloyd’s most famed albums to date. Pick up your copy of the set now, which was released earlier this week (July 5).

I'm going to buy this album. There are reasons for the constant delays. Lloyd has done SOME promo and he has 2 R&B hits, but altogether it doesn't register an impact. Some good will come out of this. It's not all gloom and doom. At least it didn't get shelved and his fans get to enjoy the album!
