www.singersroom.com/news/6368/Lloyd-Says-King-of-Hearts-Has-A-Lot-Of-SurprisesLloyd Says 'King of Hearts' Has A Lot Of SurprisesDate: 10/14/2010 | SR Staff With a new look and new label, R&B crooner Lloyd is ready for the world as he gears up for the release of fourth studio album, King of Hearts, via Zone 4/Interscope Records. Lloyd spoke to MTV recently about working with Polow on King of Hearts, maintaining that the hit-maker "brings out the best of me." "Me and Polow Da Don have been working hard," he added. "I got a lot of surprises. I think that a lot of people haven't heard me sound like this, haven't heard me sing like this. It's gonna be a new look, it's gonna be like I'm back for the first time. It should be anticipated. The album is gonna be my best work to date, King of Hearts." The album's lead single "Lay It Down" was produced by Polow Da Don, who also makes a cameo in the recently premiered video. Directed by Mikey Finnegan, the video showcases an intimate session with Lloyd and a love interest. Keri Hilson also makes an appearance in the video. King of Hearts is expected to drop later this year.

www.mtv.com/news/articles/1649916/20101013/lloyd.jhtmlOct 13 2010 Lloyd Sheds Long Locks: 'This Is A New Me'Outer change reflects inner change, King of Hearts singer says. By Jayson Rodriguez As Lloyd started working on his new album, King of Hearts, that would be released through a new label (Interscope) and overseen by a new primary producer (Polow Da Don), the singer realized the project was the culmination of a period of growth for him. To mark the moment, he decided to chop his trademark tresses. "The only constant in life is change, and it's about evolving, and hopefully, changing for the better," Lloyd told MTV News on the BET Hip-Hop Awards black carpet. "I've changed a lot about me inside; there's things that you can't really see. The haircut is just, what I call the icing on the cake. It's just really about not being afraid to try anything new, which is what you hear with 'Lay It Down,' which is what you see with 'Right Now.' "And with King of Hearts, I wanted to take a new approach, a new energy. And hair carries energy — not necessarily bad, but old. And this is a new me." According to the former Murder Inc. affiliate, he's been thinking about a close-cropped cut for some time. Two years ago, while filming the video for 2008's "Girls Around the World," he and director Hype Williams discussed the haircut. At the time, however, Lloyd said he wasn't ready. But while collaborating with Polow Da Don (Fergie, Usher, Keri Hilson), the singer said the material he was recording was "something I never done before, and I wanted to look that way too." He donated his hair to Locks of Love, an organization that provides hairpieces to children. "It was something that was bigger than me, and anytime you can be a part of something bigger than you, that's dope," he said. www.mtv.com/news/articles/1650951/20101027/lloyd.jhtmlOct 27 2010 Lloyd On Polow Da Don: 'It's Like Michael And Quincy' 'It's like Justin and Timbaland, Usher and Jermaine,' King of Hearts singer says of bond with his producer.By Jayson Rodriguez In pairing with Polow Da Don, Lloyd said he's found his musical partner, the producer that he can make a historic run with along the lines of some of the most dynamic duos in pop history. "In my opinion, and this is a bold statement, but it's like Michael and Quincy, it's like Justin and Timbaland, Usher and Jermaine," Lloyd told MTV News. "It's that consistency that you can only find from really finding the right chemistry with the right person. As an artist, I can speak for everyone when I say chemistry is a big, big part of success. Currently, "Lay It Down," the Polow Da Don-produced single from Lloyd's forthcoming King of Hearts album, is a top 20 hit on the Billboard Hip-Hop and R&B chart. Lloyd inked a deal with Interscope Records for the album after spending years with Irv Gotti on the Inc.'s roster. Earlier this year, the Atlanta singer spoke about his producer's dedication while on the set of Lloyd Banks' "Any Girl" video, which Lloyd is featured in. "He's dedicated," Lloyd said of Polow. "The greatest thing about Polow is there's no amount of time that's unnecessary when it comes to making something the best, whether it takes two days or two months for one track. I've seen Polow sit with one song for six days and perfect it. You can hear the difference in the quality against someone else's music. It sounds completely different." I like that Lloyd is confident in his "King of Hearts" album.
It's great that Lloyd has found a great music partner in Polow Da Don. A recording artist and a producer should always have a great working relationship with each other.
And Lloyd was only making reference to other great musical partners in music history such as MJ/Q, JT/Timbaland, and Usher/JD.

madamenoire.com/25600/lloyd-pulls-out-all-the-stops-in-king-of-hearts/LLOYD PULLS OUT ALL THE STOPS IN “KING OF HEARTS”November 1st, 2010 - By Khadija Allen R&B musician Lloyd is humble, talented and simply irresistible! The man behind the mic exemplifies traits that are akin to his artistic appeal and gentleman-like persona. His new single, “Lay It Down” soaks up that sensuality on his fourth solo album (which is making moves on the charts), and shows that it’s appropriate to let your hair down. Lloyd took a hiatus to focus on his next big career move and develop new arrangements under rapper/producer Polow Da Don’s record label, Zone 4/Interscope Records. “King of Hearts” due in February 2011, will be Lloyd’s most intimate set as he discovers his purpose, music and new lease on life (not to mention a new look)! Check it out! MN: Can you discuss the new album, “King of Hearts?”L: My fans have never heard me take this kind of approach to my records. I either get one or two responses – he sounds incredible or why is he yelling? (laughs) I’m brash and stronger in my delivery. I think it’s going be the best album of the year. MN: What is the overall purpose of this album, and what inspired the new single, “Lay It Down?”L: I think it takes a very special person to convince a girl to lay her head on your pillow. I realize its very different from the norm the trendy, techno-infused hip-hop. So, I think it’s unique that its soulful and I’m really singing. I don’t think you get a chance to hear a lot anymore. I want to give the fans something that that will move them and speak to them. Not necessarily caring if it’s a hit or not. Just something that really speaks to people. MN: You were recently signed to Polow Da Don’s label, Zone 4/Interscope Records. How does it feel starting anew?L: It feels good. Change is good. It’s the only constant in life. So when you embrace change, I think it’s something new for me. I feel like I’m starting over. MN: What type of sound do you want to achieve as an Interscope artist? And in what ways have you developed lyrically since your last record?L: I’m still recording and trying to figure that out. At the end of the day, I want people to feel like, I love that boy! I think people respect the things they can’t do. MN: Of course we were in shock when you cut your famous locks! What led you to cutting your hair and were you a bit apprehensive about the response or impact it will have on your career?L: It’s something that I wanted to do at the end of the day. I didn’t cut it for anyone; I did it because I was ready to. I think anyone who doesn’t like it or embrace it is probably not made for me. I gave it to kids who have cancer for charity called Locks of Love. I feel good about it and that’s all that matters. MN: When you prepared for this album, what new ideas, experiences, or emotions did you convey that will showcase a different side to Lloyd?L: I guess its all in the music and approach to the music. What you see in my appearance, hair, and stuff is all written in the reflections and changes I’ve experienced internally. I treat myself, I take care of my body, friends and family.

gitemgirl.blogspot.com/2010/11/lloyd-and-his-pursuit-of-happiness.htmlThursday, November 4, 2010 Lloyd and His Pursuit of HappinessChange can be scary, but it’s a concept R&B singer Lloyd embraces. On the phone excitedly talking business, he hangs up to start this interview with a smile that’s so big it brightens every corner of the dimly lit room. He recently cut off his trademark long hair and donated it to charity for children who lost their hair due to cancer. Besides his generous heart, what made him cut the hair? “The pursuit of happiness,” he says. “Change is good when the time is right.” But the singer’s look isn’t the only change his fans will notice. After three albums on The Inc., Lloyd decided to part ways with the label. It’s a year after that decision, and when asked if he still has a relationship with The Inc. founder Irv Gotti, Lloyd takes a long pause before responding, “Not really…no.” Now signed to Interscope Records, the 24-year-old feels, career-wise, not even the sky’s the limit. “I think when you get Timbaland, and you get Pharrell, and you get Polow da Don, and you get Jimmy Iovine, and we all are in there with one goal in mind and that’s to be number one in R&B music, I think that’s kinda what you get at the end of the day.” Lloyd has been busy collaborating with a number of artists including 50 Cent, Young Jeezy, fellow New Orleans native Mystikal and DC’s own Wale. The singer’s genuine, infectious smile lights up the room when he talks about his forthcoming album. He describes the project as a “must-hear.” “I haven’t felt this kind of excitement since the first time I did this as a solo act. The approach and the energy that’s being put into it…it’s so focused.” Focused may be an understatement. The singer says his vocal approach is more disciplined and has even disciplined his life. “I still indulge from time to time, but, no excess sugar, no salt, no fried foods, no soda. I stopped smoking. I haven’t had a drink in months. When I’m working, I don’t party. There’s a time and a place for everything. Even when I do stuff now, I do it in moderation.” Lloyd is even surrounding himself by those with the same work ethic, like Polow da Don, who produced Lloyd’s single “Lay It Down.” “The coolest thing about working with Polow is that no amount of time is enough. He’s a perfectionist. He’s a hard worker. It’s really like, whatever it takes. So, sometimes we can spend forever on one song just because we want it to come out the way we envision it to.” With a new label and a new outlook, Lloyd expects his positivity, hard work and discipline to pay off. He has grown as an artist, no longer seeing limitations. “When I first started, the ceiling was the ceiling and what was in front of me was what was in front of me, but now I look past all of this because I see something so much better and bigger.” There isn‘t much the artist has to say to entice fans to buy his upcoming album besides declaring with a smile, “It’s gonna be the best album of the year.” Check out LloydMusic.com for more info on his upcoming album King of Hearts or follow him on Twitter @lloyd_YG.

I think it would've been a smarter move to capitalize on the success of LID and release the album now. LGII is a very weak follow-up as well.

These marginally successful R&B artists, especially as of late, just aren't getting it. The "2 or 3 singles before the album" option is not for everyone.

Yes indeed. They are making the same mistake Jive made with Ciaras album. She had a top 5 R&B hit and they decided they had better up their sleeves and were going to hold off on releasing the album. Then she released two more singles and neither of them were hits. Now shes releasing an album months and months after that top 5 R&B hit. The 50 Cent song sounds like a flop. This album should have been coming out this month
