I saw this in the taking off section of Media base. I guess this is her new single. Anyone heard it?

I'm assuming this is a cover of the classic. Versions have been done by Ray Brown, Nat King Cole, and Miles Davis among others. I would have really preferred an original song so hopefully this is just an early leak or something.

This is the second greatest gainer at Urban AC with +173. It's already on 39 stations.

Looking at the airplay, this will easily debut on next week's Urban AC chart. With weekend airplay, this could have a very high debut. It also has almost 4 million audience in two days from Urban AC alone.

sounds like every other anita baker song. What did you expect? Anita Baker has a fanbase of jazz and light R&B fans to cater to. She's stuck by her formula for over twenty years and it works for her. It's what she enjoys doing and it's what her fans love her for.

One of her best yet, lol @ the strange similarity of the chorus to "Hit the Freeway", but this is really nice. One of the more upbeat singles she's had... voice as amazing as ever, nice lyrics, good instruments. Very nice song.

She's still on track. She picked up exactly where she left off.

It just sounds like everything else she did in the 90s. Take it how u want it.

Greatest Gainer!!
...and it's nearing a bullet of +200 which is huge for Urban AC.

Well I'm sure this will end up with #1 UAC and probably a 16.million or so audience, so to really make an impact she will need either for at least some Urban stations to add her, or to take off at AC as well. Her last hit at AC was in 1990 (Talk to me), and her last R&B hit was in 1995 (I apologize); so it's been longer since AC was feeling her, but maybe it'll come back.

Vintage Anita! This song is sublime. Her vocals are as good as they ever were and this song oozes soul. I love it.

You make it sound like R&B hasn't been feeling her though when in reality, she hasn't even had a single since 1995 so she's continuing her success. Obviously urban radio has changed a lot and Urban AC is really what Urban was when Anita was big so they're loving her now just like they always did. Just needed to clarify for people who may have taken that the wrong way.

How did Patti's "New Day" do at Urban? I see this one doing similarly.

How did Patti's "New Day" do at Urban? I see this one doing similarly. It peaked around #40 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop chart but that also factored in Urban AC. At Mediabase, it didn't do well at all. I think it missed the Top 100. This song should do much better at Urban AC though. This is a #1 waiting to happen whereas Patti missed #1. She peaked at like #5.

Anita's music is the definition of the format and this song is absolutely exploding with only 4 days of airplay. Patti's song even took a little while to warm up. Also, Anita took ten years off and Patti only took four. If Teena Marie can sit at #1 for a month, there's no reason why Anita won't.

I don't even know if Def Jam sent "New Day" to Urban though. They seemed very focused on selling Patti's album to her older, established fan base and not wasting money on trying to cater to a younger audience.
It depends on where Blue Note wants to focus with Anita.

I think they should obviously cater to Urban AC, Mainstream AC, and Smooth Jazz but it would never hurt to just give it a shot at Mainstream Urban. An extra 2 million audience couldn't hurt.
