I think so. It sounded like a really weak rip-off of "Tipsy" to me. I doubt this one will do any better

The "Hood Hop" video gets medium play on BET, I saw it on RapCity this afternoon. It also made 106 & Park one day last week, I think.
He is most likely a 1-hit wonder, I think...

Is it just me or does his voice sound different from "Tipsy"?
Anyway I don't like this.

The song would be tolerable if J-kwon's voice wasn't so annoying

I'm Lovin It!
the girl sounds like Christina Milian. I dont think it is her but it would be smart if he released a version with her on it and put her in the video. it would do well at pop. and would help both of them crossover better.

This song is good...the hook is strong
I wouldn't be surprised if payola is helping it move up the charts, though. You all know LA Reid and JD aren't gonna let this new prodigy they've been pumping up for the past 6 months walk off silently into the night after a monster smash debut single from the first half of the year.
MD's, on the other hand, probably couldn't care less and would just toss him in the One Hit Wonder bin if it weren't for the cash.

Eevrything is not payola. The song is just good. There are certain obvious signs of Payola and this isnt one of them. Especially on rhythmic where songs like this do best.(Love songs by rappers with a female singing he hook) and I dont even think its even gone for adds yet. People just like the song. every song that does well doesnt mean its pay for play And L.A Reid has let alot of artists flop, some of his biggest artists (TLC, Toni, Whitney, Pink) without a second thought so this new comer flopping wouldnt be any sweat off his shoulder. The same goes for JD.(where is bone crusher lately). and neither have named him a "prodigy" so you are way off with that one. If you see 20 or 30 over night spins thats when you know something is up but until then put your magnifying glass up.

Bone Crusher did not have a Top 10 smash crossover hit on pop radio nor have a song peak at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Bone Crusher is not a 17 year old male whom the coveted teenage female market swooned over (FAR from it...I know you've seen BoneCrusher...and it ain't pretty).
Nobody said J-Kwon was a "prodigy" but read between the lines, he came out the gate with this smash hit, an artist who can be/is marketable for many factors, and they're just gonna drop him off the face of the Earth? Someone with such an upside? (Something Bone Crusher NEVER had, btw). Sure they can, but I'd have a hard time believing that one.
lol don't even compare J-Kwon to Bone Crusher because other than the fact they are on the same label, they probably couldn't be more different in terms of circumstance.
I used to work at a radio station. I know it's shady. Since then I still had faith things were legit, but in recent years I've grown not to trust any of it anymore and have a hard time believing things are "legit" when it comes to radio.
The reason why I'm skeptical is because the 2nd single, "Hood Hop" totally bombed and did absolutely nothing. Now this one is flying up the charts? Sure it's possible, it could be legit. It's a different tempo, different style song...maybe Hood Hop was too similar to Tipsy...and R&B-rap songs work these days.
But like I said, it all fits too well. Can't risk having this artist with a fanbase and an upside just vanish and become a One-Hit wonder, so they help the song out a little bit to ensure that doesn't happen.

"Hood Hop" is not a song with any cross over potential. I dont even know their point in releasing it. Its top 40 at Urban and movin up still but That song didnt stand a chance at crossing over to any other format. "hood hop" was probably their attemt to try and give J-kwon some validity as a real MC instead of a pop, commercial rapper.
"you and me" is a COMPLETELY different song. Its not as if they are 2 similar songs then I could say maybe there is something fishy going on. But "you and me" is the type of song rhythmic stations love. They love the love songs with the female singing the hook. And it even as a acoustic guitar feel to it.
I could see if "Hood Hop" was similar to "you and me" or was the same kind of song and now "you and me" is flying up the charts but that isnt the case. They are 2 diff songs, 2 diff styles, and 2 different types of format interst. Sometimes with rappers they release stuff that isnt as commercial just for the sake of having some street credibility.

This song is great, probably the best rap song going up the Rhythmic charts right now (though that's not saying much).
I loved "Tipsy" but after hearing "Hood Hop" I figured "T" would remain the only J-Kwon song I liked.... but this one proves me wrong. I think it should do well at Pop too.
The singer on it is Sadiyyah, so an unknown.

It's a hit, especially for me! The beat, the music, and the hook is totally off the hook! J-Kwon may have a future!

It's similiar to "Tipsy" because it sounds so repetitive.
