True, that's why I mentioned Jody Watley as an example of an artist who saw her popularity plunge as she shifted toward more "artistic" fare.

Well you said she lost fans as the songs she released got slower, not more artistic. Slow songs dont mean artistic right? I think Ciara can release a slow song, as long as its radio friendly.

Well, when compared to the pop fluff that fills artists' first CDs as it was the case with Ciara, they usually are.

Hmm...I'm not sure if I like this. I'll need to listen to it some more.

Shooting Video in January-
In a recent interview Ciara had with Aries from T M H she announced that her next single will be Oh ft. Ludacris. The video will be shot in January 2005, Also that's when she goes back in the studio and she's also planning on going to London. She also mentions that she's planning a tour in the near future but it's a secret so she can't reveal the info yet amd she also mentioned she will be working w/ singer Monica in the future.
Hits the Studio Again-
Ciara, who recruited Missy Elliot for the track "1, 2 Step" on her debut, Goodies, has returned the favor for the rap star's next album. "She wrote the song and just called me to record," Ciara says of the as-yet-untitled track. " I'm singing on the hook with her and on a verse. It's really good." The singer -- who scored a Number One hit this year with her first single, "Goodies" -- is also set to return to the studio in her hometown of Atlanta over the holidays. There the "First Lady of Crunk & B," as her producer Lil Jon calls her, will start laying the seeds for her follow-up. "I definitely have plans. I've been having conversations, and I got a lot of beats from producers who worked on [Goodies]," says Ciara. "I'll also be doing a lot of writing for other artists." A song co-written by Ciara, "Got Me Waiting," currently appears on American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino's debut, Free Yourself. Ciara, an ambitious nineteen-year-old who admits to drawing up a "goal sheet" in high school, has big visions for her future. "P. Diddy and Oprah -- a combination of those two would be great," she announces in all seriousness. But if she doesn't become an absurdly wealthy entrepreneur, that's all right, too. "It's good to know that whenever I look back on my career -- and I pray that will be a very long from now -- I can say that my first single was Number One," she says. "That's a blessing to me." Ciara will open on an extensive tour next spring.

Um. What are they thinking releasing all these collaborations? Are they gonna close out the album with the "Goodies" remix with TI and Jazze Pha? They should have released "Ooh Baby" next to show that Ciara can at least make an attempt to hold her own. She's the current urban "it" girl, so I'm sure it would have done well just because it is her. I guess they are thinking about performances though. Ciara won't be able to do any of that killer dancing to a slow song (then again, she does have a full-out routine to "Thug Style" :o .) Oh well, at least Cece will have a 3rd hit!

So no 4th single? I hope "Oh" does well so they can release the 4th single and she can work on her next album.

Jody Watley's style of music just went out of fashion and after her albums in the mid-90's flopped, she went to due full out "artistic" lounge music.

I don't know why you compare Jody Watley to Ciara. They are 2 entirely different artists. Record companies are smarter these days. They get their artists to make albums that people will buy.

I don't think record companies are smarter nowa days because if they were they would've never let the single die ... becuase of the record companies killing the single free DL's became popular.

In that way, no, they arent smart. As far as the material that they allow their artists to put out though, I think they are more...savvy.

I can see her next album dropping in October or November, in time for the holiday push, although she might get lost in the shuffle, forcing them to move it up to Sept. again like Goodies, or late summer, or maybe even early 2006.

Pop is the only format where this song won't do as well as the previous singles. I think this is a garanteed top 3 at Urban and Rhythmic.

Ciara scrapped "And I" as the third single and went right for her planned fourth single, "Oh". She told TMHXone that the video will be shot next month. EDIT: Nevermind. I figured out you meant she moved her plans for her 4th single up to be her 3rd single.

this song has a good bass line, a decent flow, and Ludacris going for it. but it's her worst vocals yet and b/c it's slower tempo... i just can't see this doing as well as her first two. MAYBE top 10 at urban & rhythmic, definitely not at pop. maybe not even top 20 at pop.

i think she should release "next to you" followed by "hotline". if she releases another album this year she'll flood the market with herself. if thats possible, i guess she could be ashanti part.2

They are so stupid for not releasing this third. "And I" is gonna kill the "Goodies" era
