Carrie Underwood shows love for dogs during Franklin visit

Sharing a personal story about her own dog, Ace, award-winning country music artist Carrie Underwood spoke out at a press conference Wednesday in support of dog adoption.

Underwood has joined the sixth annual Pedigree Adoption Drive, which was started by Franklin-based Mars Petcare, the maker of the Pedigree brand dog food.

“I’ve always been an animal lover,” Underwood said, adding that she particularly has compassion for dogs, because so many of them are in desperate situations.

During the press conference, Pedigree presented Underwood with a check for $50,000 to help build an animal shelter in her hometown of Checotah, Okla.

Interestingly, the shelter is being built by the C.A.T.S. (The Checotah Animal, Town, and School) Foundation, which Underwood established in 2009 to help with general causes, needs and services in the Checotah community.

Yeah surely the guy means 2010 tour and it's just a typo. I'm actually now trying to remember if Carrie toured any at all in 2009???

Like Stephen, I assumed the 2009 credit refers to the 2010 tour. Probably because they started working on it last year. Carrie's last full-fledged tour was in 2008. She barely toured in 2009 and when she did have concerts, it was basically the same setlist and was at fairs (California Mid-State Fair, Paso Robles, CA & Ravina Festival, Highland Park, IL) or in an open field (Salute the Troops, Fort Campbell, KY). Thus, didn't require an elaborate stage set-up and production which would need a creative director. And thanks, Jeff, for the Danny Teeson info.

TV.com also finds Carrie's HIMYM acting okay based on the clips:

The LA Times has the first clips of Carrie Underwood's guest appearance on How I Met Your Mother, and guess what: She's not bad! HIMYM has a long, storied history of stunt casting (call it what you will, but that's what it is), with everyone from Britney Spears to George Clinton to Heidi and Spencer Pratt making appearances on the show. But not every celebrity guest star is created equal — even playing themselves, Heidi and Spencer managed to seem wooden and disingenuous.

From the preview clips, we're guessing Carrie will fall comfortably between Britney Spears and Enrique Iglesias on the "competence of non-actor celebrity guest stars" scale we just invented. Britney isn't the greatest actress, but she was charming enough to avoid the cringe we got when watching Heidi and Spencer, and Enrique was unexpectedly funny as Robin's Argentinean boyfriend. We're hoping Carrie manages to pull off a charming and competent performance.

I'm not really sure how sponsorships work as far as touring but is it a safe assumption to say that since the Play On Tour has 2 sponsors (Vitamin Water & Pedigree), that they will have more money to put into the tour?

Yes People does tend to alter their covers in different demographics, which in this and a few other cases is a bit ludicrous, but what can ya do?

I'd rather read about Carrie, than speculation on Susan Boyle. That story seems more fit for a tabloid (whether or not Susan actually gave them an interview.)
