There is so much hype around this man right now to hear what he is going to come out with. With only a live album out, the guy is being called the savior of soul music and blends the sounds of Lauryn Hill, D'Angelo, and Raphael Saadiq into his own blend of soul.
Watch for this one on September 7!

thebeatla.com/Media/Audio/Butta/Bootlegs/john%20legend-use2loveu.wmathis song is ok but nothing special. I wasnt aware there was any hype around him other than the typical hype for some1 who is a little diffferent (he plays piano...a shame that makes you different now)and the artist never ends up meeting expectations. this track is really old, I heard it 3 or 4 months ago. its been on the website since then...its just ok.

I like it. I'm not expecting a big hit of this though because the production is so dated. He used like the same instruments that were used in the 70's.

I wont be surprised if he does become a big hit. So many strange things have happened as of late with unexpected hits. I would have never guessed "I dont wanna know" would have been the hit it was and with Urban music heading towards the more soulful direction It wouldnt be shocking if he did well for himself. And having Kanye West production, support and backing for his project wont hurt him with gaining interest from radio.......But then again a Kanye West production hasnt lived up to the hype when it comes to getting success. he has alot of hit a misses when it comes to getting its for other Urban artists.
But more than likely he will get the type of attention as Diolated pupils, Twalb Kwalib and that other unknow hip hop group Kanye produced that song called "this way" for.

Diddy has a lot of pull in the music industry. Money talks... and that's why Mario is getting airplay. Kinda sad but true. But (like you said) soulful sounding music is coming back to the mainstream...so hopefully music will once again change for the better. I'd much rather hear John Legend all day every day than Mario. He puts creavtivity and depth into his lyrics as well as passion. And you're right about Kanye. I think he has more success with Hip Hop production than any other genre...and that's what he needs to expand on. He's working on that though. I think You Don't Know My Name is probably the most success he's had with producing R&B....compared to numerous successful Hip Hop tracks. Dilated Peoples did This Way. Is the unknown Hip Hop group you are referring to called Slum Village? They did Selfish. I can see how that can get mixed up.

You know, guitars, violins, pianos, and such have been around for a long time. :) ;) Honestly, I don't know what that last comment means.

You are right he is much better with producing hip hop artists because his r&b stuff hasnt done much for anyone except Alicia Keyes but she had a large part in that more so then him being a good producer. P. Diddy has a lot of pull in the music industry. Money talks... and that's why Mario is getting airplay. Kinda sad but true. What you said is very true but I why didnt Diddy use his pull in the industry to help Dream when they tried to make a comeback last summer? It seems like some companies use payola and other efforts to get some artists play but they leave other artists on the same label stranded to make it or not make it on their own

Diddy is a businessman first and foremost. Maybe Mario proved to be a better "asset" to Diddy's business, while Dream was more of a "liability".

I think Mario sounds horrible, but can make a hit record. The sad thing is no one cares about talent anymore. It's all about the dollar and image in the music industry. I agree with the comment that it's a shame that someone who uses a piano today is considered someone special. I know that it's show business but you have to give us something worthy of us spending our hard earned $18 for a two hit album. I think lowering the price of cd's (which the industry has done lately) is only solving half the problem.

Thanks for the video link, EvanJ. It's pretty clever -- the video lends possible other interpretations (for example, one about religious faith) to the song's lyrics. I like the song, and appreciate that it sounds more organic and natural in its production. I don't know if that will ultimately hurt its chances on the radio (it's still gaining, but modestly), but maybe the song will continue to ride the Legend hype to success.

I also saw when he and Kanye were on 106 to premiere the video.
I didnt see the video, just a clip of it where he was playing in a church.
I LOVE this song though! It's so good
