This should an interesting run of singles from the album. Billboard.biz reports a video is being shot for this in the new year. The fans on 30 Seconds to Mars's web site have overwhemingly voted for Night Of The Hunter as the next release. Radio has been playing This Is War more than any other track except Kings And Queens. And of course with the rumor of a Kanye West cameo on Hurricane, it may get consideration.
All said and done, this is my favorite track on a pretty average album. This should rocket to the top five in short time.
EDIT : MODIFIED TITLE

There is no rumor. The Kanye cameo was done, just not released on the retail version because of red tape. Once they get it cleared, Leto says it will be released in some format.

This is also a great choice, BTW. "Night Of The Hunter" is okay, but I always think letting fans choose singles is a mistake.

After "Kings and Queens," this is the best song on the album, but I definitely expected "This is War."

I'm sure "This Is War" will be next, but I enjoy this choice, and hopefully fourth will be "Hurricane."

Sounds like they're trying to compete with Creed by naming the song "Closer To The Edge"

This Is War is decent, but it doesn't sound like a radio song despite its airplay. Hurricane on the other hand is very nice. I can't imagine splicing in a rap. No thanks.

After not getting a whole lot out of "Kings And Queens" I didnt expect much more from the album, however now that I've heard this track I'm re-optimistic to finding some material I'll like. It took about 7 seconds to like this song more than single #1

Not as good as "Night of the Hunter," "This Is War," or "Hurricane," but still a fine choice for a single. Better than the rest of the songs and better than "Kings and Queens," yes.

Based on this post, I wouldn't be surprised if your album track rankings would be very similar to mine, though my guess is that you like this album better than I do. I also like "Stranger In A Strange Land" a decent amount, though it drags on a bit too long without going anywhere.

Kanye has been known to sing, especially lately. Might want to do some fact-checking once in a while. I can't always be around to correct you.

The title makes me hear Linkin Park's debut single.

I'm 6 feet from the edge, maybe 6 feet aint so far down.....which is really stretching a reference well the reason I made it was the fact that closer to has the name amount of syllables as 6 feet from (clo-ser to, six feet from) 3 each. So it could work, plus the whole "To The Edge" part made me thing of One Last Breath right away

I took it as:
Creed: "We're '6 feet from the edge.'" 30 STM: "Yeah, well we're 'CLOSER to the edge.' Yeah, what now huh?"
1. Kings and Queens 2. Closer to the Edge 3. This is War 4. Vox Poluli 5. Night of the Hunter

I also think Edge and Queens stand out. Everything else below it kind of muddles together unfortunately.

Jared Leto didn't even mention "Closer To The Edge" as one of the songs up for consideration. It'd only be an OK pick if you asked me (and the intro kinda resembles The Smiths' "How Soon Is Now?"--not that that has anything to do with its release potential or anything).
"Night of the Hunter" is gold though. Fucking gold. It is required to be on the radio sooner than later (third single would be fine. No later).
This record ended up so much better than I'd expected after hearing the first two leaked songs.

I just listened to the album now for only the second time. The first time, I wasn't entirely paying attention, but now that I'm at work bored as hell, I was all ears. I will say that it is a very relaxing sounding album and it's pretty clear to me what possible singles could be. I definitely agree that "Closer To The Edge" should be a future one and may be tied for my favorite track on the album along with "Kings & Queens" and "Night Of The Hunter" third favorite.

I heard somewhere that "Night of the Hunter" was now gonna be the second single. I know it was reported on Rawkpit, but they weren't the original source.

I am a huge fan of Jared's acting but I ignored this band the first time around, paying attention to the negative press. Based on what I read and the first single from this album, I decided to buy it and I'm glad I did. It snuck into my top 50 of 2009. Great album with great production. CTTE is one of my faves on the album with Kings and Queens and This Is War.

Since this thread was created, I've also heard that "Night of the Hunter" would be the next single. All three, along with "Kings & Queens" and "Vox Populi," are in my top 5 favorites from the album, so any will work for me (though I'd prefer "Closer to the Edge").
