Bryan Adams performed a duet with Nelly Furtado at the Feb. 10 dress rehearsal. On Feb. 6, a recording of Adams and Furtado was played repeatedly inside B.C. Place Stadium. The chorus was “sing something louder so the whole world can hear.” The piece included aboriginal chanting and drumming. blogs.canoe.ca/vancouver2010/general/will-the-firths-be-the-last/

Nelly is performing live in Vancouver right now. She just killed "Maneater"! She's singing "Manos Al Aires" right now. "I'm Like A Bird" was amazing. This rock arrangement of "Turn Off the Lights" sounds awful.
The rest of the concert was awesome! Can't wait to hear her new stuff.

Ryan Tedder just confirmed on MuchMusic that he worked with Nelly. So we should expect a Tedder Production on Lifestyle.

They have never worked together, right? I don't think we will get another Halo, cause it sounds like they actually worked together, as opposed to Ryan making the track and sending it to her.

The mix: vocals/guitars/keyboards/drums does require some work, but when it flows it should be good.

Linguistic Promiscuity
About to release an english album, portuguese-canadian Nelly Furtado arrives in Brazil to promote her spanish repertory. And portuguese album is on the line.
Change language and style like you change your clothes is something regular for the canadian Nelly Furtado who arrives in Brasil in march, for her Mi Plan concert, with spanish songs. But the 31 year old singer daughter of portuguese knows her hot-ass side, singing in english is undefeatable. With her hip hop release Loose (2006), she sold more than 10 million albums and her hits Promiscuous and Say it Right took Billboard over dominating the #1.
With her fifth album, she goes back to Shekespeare's language. Nelly says she wants to mix her influences from her previous albums. Lifestyle is set to be released in may "Its going to be my first fully english release", she says, by phone to Billboard Brasil. "Half of it its ready and its not a one-producer album. We have 10 songs finished, says Nelly, mixing portuguese and english on the interview.
She confirms the participation of Salaam Remi and dutch Dj Tiesto. Timbaland and Ryan Tedder are also rumored. After the return for a english release, she plans to risk herself on her first portuguese release. "It will be recorded in Portugal, but maybe with brazilian artists like Caetano Veloso with whom I've worked before" she tells, reminding she used to sing "Sozinho" on her concerts. She also says she's a fan of female brazilian singers. "I like Marisa Monte's voice, she has brasility on her performances. Daniela Mercury inspires me. They're definitely role models for me."
Nelly started her career in 2000 with her hit I'm Like a Bird and she admits she owns a lot to this song and that it does't feel like she's singing it for 10 years already.
"The most important thing is the song. You can sing now or in 20 years. If its a good song, that's what matters. But I'm always changing its arrangement" explains Nelly.
The way she sings, she reveals, also changed thanks to tracks like Manos Al Aire. "My music is my school. After recording an album in spanish, I changed my way of singing in english, with more passion. I'm a pop singer. My music background is diverse." she defines.
Being a promiscuous girl - culturaly speaking - does't hurt anyone.
- Billboard Brazil
Confirmed Producers: Salaam Remi Timbaland Ryan Tedder Tiesto
This will be one diverse album.
Pop Perfection (Tedder) + Hip Hop influenced Pop (Timbaland) + Dance (Tiesto) + Classic R&B (Salaam)
I hope she hooks up with a past producer from Whoa, Nelly! or Folklore. If that happens then this album will officially be FLAWLESS and will truly show the diverse work she has done this past decade.

I'm hoping she actually recorded more songs with Tiesto and they're not just tacking on WWTBA on the album (even though I love it).
I can't begin to describe how excited I am for this. I hope she premieres the studio track soon after she performs it.

MAJOR UPDATE: Nelly Confirms Timbaland will NOT be on Lifestyle.
Estadão is one of the biggest brazilian newspaper, here is a recent interview.
Estadão: I heard that you sing Caetano Veloso for your daughter before she gets to bed.
Nelly: Its true! I love Caetano, he was a big influence in my life, always gave me inspiration. I always sang portuguese at home. My daughter has 6 years now and she's sick today, but she likes music very much. She also likes Elliott Smith. I have the impression that she's also going to be a singer. When I was pregnant I was recording my second album and I think it influencied her. My father is a musician too, also my grandparents, its in our blood.
Estadão: But you, who speaks portuguese, ended up releasing an album in spanish. Why?
Nelly: I think its very important today to be an universal artist. My mother was a big fan of Julio Iglesias, she loved the latin repertory. There's also another thing: singing in portuguese or spanish, my voice comes out differently, its like a new start. Since I recorded with Juanes for the first time, everything about it made me fall in love. I learn quickly and this allows me to play in every kind of concert venue.
Estadão: You also recorded a song with Gustado Santaolalla's Bajofondo. Tango saduced you as well?
Nelly: I love tango. Its a imagery song, full of enertgy. It has the magic touch of Gustavo, I love working with him, changing ideas. He's a good friend, one of my idols. Its hard to find someone with such integrity, he aproachs a diverse musical scenary, have won two Oscars with I'm not wrong. I don't have any restrictions to any kind of music. When I was younger I love drum'n'bass, for example. I like to taste everything, as long as its real.
Estadão: And what about Timbaland? What was like to have the biggest pop producer?
Nelly: We're friends for over ten years, we have that type of cosmic conexion. I don't have him on my new album, but we'll surely work together again.
Estadão: How would you define your new album, Lifestyle?
Nelly: I don't know, its a bit hard... What I can say is that its a combination of my other four albums. It has hip-hop, reggae, love songs. The funny thing is, after recording and making tours in spanish, my vocals are stronger. People will see it in brazilian concerts. I have fantastic memories of my first concerts in Brazil, in 2002. The crowd moved and danced with such joy. I've always had a strong relation with Brazil, not only because my parents are azorian, which its cultural fundation is made by brazilian artistic movements, but also because I feel part of brazilian land, I feel at home. And its not exclusive of mine: the world knows and apreciates brazilian music. And when the brazilian soccer team is on field, we're all green-yellow.
Estadão: Your musical aprouch after Timbaland put your in a place where singers like Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera and Lady Gaga are. Do you feel close to these artists or do you consider yourself and exception?
Nelly: We're all musical causins. We dance and try to make joy. And we have mutual respect for each other. I really admire Beyoncé, she's a complete artist, fighter, inovative. Of course, even because of our different formation, we're not the same. But we like similar things, the mix of it is what makes us apart.

This is very good news. If anything, Timbaland is more miss than hit these days (in my own subjective opinion)... This album will be FIRE... like everyone of the others. She hasn't had a duff album yet!

When Shakira's first single underperformed, she tacked on a Timbaland song that didn't even match the rest of the album. I hope that Nelly won't do the same thing if that happens to her.

I'm kind of nervous with the lack of Timbo, but excited at the same time. I'm still confident this album is going to be great, I think she's learned how to balance the commercial with the more obscure.

^ I agree completely. This has actually made me even more excited for this album, no Timbaland means something completely new and different from Loose. I can't wait to see what this album sounds like now.

I guess Nelly learned NOTHING from Janet. Don't leave producers that gave your biggest hits and made you a household name. I hope Ryan Tedder track is better than "Happy" and "Already Gone".

I'm more intrigued to hear the album now, after knowing she's not including Timbaland in Lifestyle. I wonder how it will affect her, hopefully affirmatively.
