Ummm, hip-hop owns the Hot 100 and has for like past 3 years or so. The Top 10 is basically a hip-hop exclusive club.
This makes me think that no matter what, some rappers will always cry about not getting a fair shot even if they actually have the edge over other genres.

I think you misunderstand what he's trying to say. I believe he was referring to real hiphop not a lot of this garbage rap and hip-pop music that comes out. The industry is convinced that thier rap artists should only come out with the same type of songs and discourges songs that involve free speech. So while many of these formula songs are in the Hot 100, hiphop is dying a slow death.
