and great for Ke$ha, she deserves it. Funny enough the song she was featured last year "Right Round" was #1 w/the biggest first week sales ever but she was making no money off it.. the irony, nows shes #1!!!

Her album is catchy as hell and has lots of potential hits on it, definately at least katy perry type of success with the right singles tho she could surpass this and be huge.

Yes- both Madge and Cyndi had outlandish styles, but their styles were by no means interchangeable, and they had their own things that defined them. Cyndi talked about how she thinks Madge took the corset thing, but it's safe to say that Madge took the corset in a whole 'nother direction (especially later on).

And thanks, bks- just 2 1/2 days or so of gift card use resulted in those huge digital numbers. Among female singles sales in the SoundScan era, I *think* Whitney Houston had one week where "I Will Always Love You" sold around 630K- but I'm not 100% on that one.

Kesha now sings on the two songs with the biggest sales weeks ever.

Lady Gaga now has had 2 songs sell over 400k in a single week. Also within the next few months she'll go from having two 2m+ selling singles to having five.

As for the Cyndi/Madonna thing, you can only say someone "ripped off" someone else's style if they saw that person's style and then copied it. Not sure how Madonna could have foreseen the future of Cyndi Lauper, and shot her album artwork and first videos to copy Cyndi. "Everybody" was released April 1982. "Burning Up" in March 1983. Her album in July 1983. All pre-date Cyndi's debut. But I would say neither copied the other. The early '80s had a lot of crazy fashion, and Madonna and Cyndi each interpreted that in their own way.

Madonna had a bigger lasting impact but some of Cyndi's songs "Girls Just want to Have Fun" and "Time After Time" are a lot bigger than Cyndi herself and have been covered more than any other madonna song outthere.

yeah, i was gonnna say that as well altho definately not as much as Girl Just Want To HAve fun or Time After Time, her hits definately hit a core, like i said they are much bigger than Cyndi herself. Shes definately an 80's icon and at her peak she was huge

^Indeed- plus, Madge's debut album had her signature look for the time- the bracelets, the rag in the hair, etc. Madge said there were others in NYC that dressed like that, but, obviously when someone becomes visible to the mainstream, they inspire the rage (which Madge did). It's extremely difficult to claim anyone was the "first" to do this or that anyhow- Madge obviously was inspired by others, like those post-Madonna were by her. She took the wedding dress to a whole' nother plane, too- Debbie Harry (among others, probably) wore one before her, but whose imagery is more everlasting? There it is. And, "Borderline" was heavily played on MTV- it was her breakout video there.

RE Ke$ha- guess "Tik Tok" will hold at #1 this week. hehe And, of course, "ever" meaning the last five-six years. ;) I will check on the biggest female singles sales week since 1991.
