Well, there was a little surprise at the top of the chart this week! When Sheryl Crow took a hard fall to #4, I assumed Dido had taken over the top. But she was at #3. I kept hoping Martina McBride had nabbed the top spot, but not quite. After weeks atop the R&R chart, Five For Fighting finally grabbed top honors on the AT10 chart. But I have a feeling Martina will take over before long.
For a third week in a row, I was right on the money with my prediction about what the AT10 Spotlight would be. However, those were kind of easy. I don't know what'll be next week. A few things I've come up with include family acts, as well as songs about friendship. Will one of those be next week? We'll have to wait and see.
Actually, Casey referred to Ray Charles' song as an "AT10 Extra", but since it's a patriotic song, I listed it with the Spotlight. A few songs that were played don't really have anything to do with the holiday. For example, "American Pie" is really about the death of Buddy Holly, but it was played because it has "America" in the title. As for "Saturday In The Park", Casey played that because it mentions the Fourth Of July in each verse. ("Saturday In The Park, I think it was the Fourth Of July", "Another day in the park, I think it was the Fourth Of July", "Forty days in the park, and everyday's the Fourth Of July").
Also, the Dan Fogelberg song is not a typo. As we all know, "Rhythm Of The Rain" is a remake of the Cascades' song from 1963. But at the end, instead of singing, "Oh, listen to the falling rain/Pitter patter, pitter patter", Dan inserts a few verses from a song called "Rain" by the Beatles ("When the rain comes/they run and hide their heads/they might as well be dead/when the rain comes).
This past week, I sent in a Long Distance Dedication to my aunt, who passed away back in March, but I'm afraid my timing was off. The song I dedicated was "There You'll Be" and that was one of the dedication songs played this week. I have no idea how long after the LDD arrives in the mail that they read it on the air. If it's two months, then there's a chance that my LDD could be read on the air. But if it's a matter of weeks, then probably not. Or maybe if there are two dedications with the same song, they space them out a little. Who knows? Anyway, be listening for the dedication maybe sometime this summer or possibly early fall. I'll be sure to check the LDD page on Rob Durkee's website before listening to the show so I can be sure to either tape the dedication or, better yet, get a copy of the show. But that's IF they read it. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
