Reba is the oldest female to have a #1 solo hit at country radio- and aside from Dolly (who was 60 when the Paisley hit hit #1), just two other acts older than 60 hit #1 at country- Willie Nelson when he was 70 and Kenny Rogers when he was 61. So, tell me again how it's not a notable accomplishment? :) As a comparison, on the Hot 100, Louis Armstrong was the oldest male to hit #1 (he was 62) and Cher was the oldest female (almost 53). In other words, it's rare for an act 50+ to hit #1 on the Hot 100 or any viable radio format. Considering madonna's in her 50's I wonder if she will ever hit #1 again. I mean she can prove to have hit first singles off of her albums and timing is everything when it comes to peak positions. It will be interesting to see because she could just get whoever is big at the moment to give her something that could outdo Cher's record.

The stars almost aligned for 4 Minutes -- Timbaland + Timberlake + 3 weeks at #1 in sales. A week or two of repression might have given enough of a sales boost to end up at #1.

Re J.Lo- no surprise. Like said before, she will never approach the success she had at radio at the end of the 90s, early 2000s. So, you know the future. Cool.

^Yes, how'd ya know? :) Really, though- just years of following the charts, trends, etc. It's like someone thinking that Paula Abdul could have the success (at radio, sales, whatever) that she had back in the late 80s/early 90s- never gonna happen. Lopez was commercially hot for 3-4 years, but the fickle public has moved on.
If any older act could hit #1, it could be Madonna- but, U.S. pop radio has become even more ageist in the last decade, that it would be tough. I imagine the lead single from her next studio album will fare better than "Celebration" (if it's a more classic pop sound, and not dated 90s dance), but to hit #1 would be an extreme challenge.

Another 50+ person to go to #1 was Carlos Santana That is true but Clive paired him up with all the young ppl. Carlos is quite Talented but the same cant be said about subo I simply see no talent there. There was also Tina turner who only became big at like 45? Its quite hard for a 50 yr old to reach number one. with digital sales its possible but with airplay almost impossible and if the airplay success is limited then the song will be forgotten

Also Tina didn't 'only become big at 45'; she was huge in the 60s and 70s. Check the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame listings, you will see her listed

^Tina didn't have the level of commercial success in the Ike years as she had with Private Dancer, though- that's probably what he meant. And, yeah, Santana collaborated with acts on Supernatural and the follow-up album, so that made radio more open to playing that material.
Saids it before- U.S. radio has gotten even more ageist in this past decade. Madonna had "Music," but what other 40+ female has enjoyed a big hit like that from 2000-2009? She managed four other top 10 hits on the Hot 100 while she was in her 40s. Janet Jackson hasn't managed to score a top 10 in her 40s; same for Whitney Houston. Mimi Carey could score when she officially becomes 40, but I'd be very surprised if she sees success anywhere near the level of her biggest hits.

Because she had hit albums during the peak of the music industry & Ike & Tina didn't, technically you are correct
But the Ike & Tina career had the bigger long term impact.
I'll bet you can name quite a few Ike & Tina songs that they performed without looking it up

No song by an artist 40+ has hit #1 since 2000, when Santana and Madonna both hit #1.
I can also only find 2 other women 40+ who have ever hit #1 (Tina Turner and Cher, each only once).
Mariah Carey seems to be the most likeliest to have another #1 song at 40+, with Madonna having an outside shot as well, since both have had top ten hits in the past 2 years (and Mariah even had a #1 in 2008 at age 38). There would be a remote chance for J.Lo, Janet, Whitney, and Celine Dion as well, but I suspect none of them will manage that unless a super-hot new artist features them.

Enya, bizarrely, came incredibly close as well hitting #2 due to a credit for her featured sample on "I Don't Wanna Know" by Mario Winans when she was 43.
Madonna also had two close calls with "4 Minutes" (#3) and "Don't Tell Me" (#4). She's hit #1 on the sales chart multiple times after age 40.

Absolutely, 2m- Tina- as good as she is- has not yet been considered for induction as a solo act in the Hall of Fame- she's been eligible since 1998 (I myself am not readily familiar with any pre-Private Dancer solo work)
br- I agree that because she makes music with the masses in mind, Mimi has the best shot at another #1 among the "divas," but it ain't gonna be as easy as it was. As for the others you mentioned, I would rule out Jennifer Lopez and Celine Dion right off the bat, regardless of potential collaborators. Whitney's latest shows that U.S. pop and rhythmic radio aren't going to be changing their tune anytime soon- so I wouldn't look for Janet to score any big hits soon, either.
Post-"Don't Tell Me," Madge hit #1 on the sales charts with very weak competition (fewer and fewer CD singles released), so that's not that great an accomplishment.

I don't know that you can rule out anybody definitively. J.Lo did have a top 5 hit with "Control Myself" just a few years ago. Celine has been out of the chart picture a long time, but I could imagine a scenario where she releases a new Christmas album or something with a strong holiday single. I would give both a <1% chance, but I bet if you had asked someone in 1995 if Cher would have a #1 hit you'd have gotten laughed at, and she proved that wrong. I would not give much weight to Madonna's #1s on the sales chart post-DTM, pre-digital, but in the digital age both Hung Up and 4 Minutes hit #1 on sales.

Probably so, br, RE Cher. :) However, as noted, U.S. pop radio has gotten a lot more ageist in the last decade, since Cher's "Believe" (which, as we saw by her follow-up singles' performances, was a commercial fluke).
Lopez did score with that L.L. Cool J single, but it also suffered a swift decline (just 11 weeks on the Hot 100). After that, "Do It Well' reached #31, and the album's performance made albums like Glitter and American Life seem like smashes by comparison. We are seeing how her latest is faring- as she now is 40+.
And, yeah, hitting #1 on Digital Songs with "Hung Up" was impressive for Madge, as was "4 Minutes." That's why I think her next new single from her studio album will fare notably better in sales than "Celebration" did- that just landed with a thud, commercially.

Won't Gwen Stefani have a shot when she gets back to her solo career? Maybe but the drop of success between her first and second albums was kind of big, so maybe she's not going to make it. The Sweet Escape (album) was saved by the huge success of the second single, but the sales from the album, and the rest of the singles were lackluster, minus 'Wind It Up' that did ok. Again, I don't think Lopéz is flopping because of her age, it's the material mostly that's not sticking with people. At least Madonna is able to get some digital hits, proving that people cares about her, it's just radio that doesn't play her. Lopéz, instead, is flopping on both sales and airplay.

Gwen Stefani definitely has a shot.
But it's also worth noting that across her entire career both solo and with No Doubt, she's only had one #1 hit (although, of course, "Don't Speak" would've been an easy Hot 100 #1 had it been released commercially).
