Carole King? I liked the theme, but didn't care for a lot of the selections. "Grease Mega-Mix"?? And did "Reason To Believe" even chart the first time? What about "When I'm With You", "Layla" or "In Your Eyes"?

"The Grease Megamix" is a good choice because it's not something that's played to death like "Into The Night" or "Red Red Wine."

Yeah.. I listened to the show today and I remember hearing the Gloria Estefan cover of "It's too late", and not being someone who has been too fond of Gloria Estefan, I didn't care for the cover. I liked the Carole King original though.
I was also surprised that Maroon 5 landed into the top 10, and that Five For Fighting was #1 and not Martina McBride.
I liked hearing "Into the Night" and "Twist and Shout", but I missed hearing the segment with "I'm So Excited".. What was the story behind this one? I remember it charting in 1984, but when did it rechart? I also checked the Billboard book and "Reason to Believe" never charted originally in 1971 on the Hot 100 but I don't know about Radio and Records.. or if there was even an AC chart back then?

I didn't hear the story on "I'm So Excited" but I know it charted in 1982 and then again in 1984. Casey might've mentioned that it was in "Vacation" which may have had something to do with it being re-released. I think the AC chart in R&R debuted in 1974.

Yeah, Casey mentioned the peak positions of several of the songs and many of those were on the Pop chart (i.e. "I'm So Excited" peaked at 26 the first time around, and at 14 the second time) The strange thing is, "Into The Night" was played even though the new 1989 version did not chart on either the R&R Pop or AC chart. And, yes, the A/C chart debuted on February 22, 1974.

How the hell did Maroon 5 debut???
I know WLYF just added the song recently.
I think UK's chances of falling off sometime soon just went down the drain.

"When I'm With You" didn't get very high on the chart in its first run. I think Casey was thinking more in terms of songs that actually hit the Top 40 (although, as pointed out earlier, "Into The Night" didn't hit the R&R Top 40 its second time around, but it did hit BB Top 40). Yeah, I'm surprised they didn't play "Layla" or "In Your Eyes", since those are played daily on AC radio (I've noticed that AT10 seems to be reverting back to playing overplayed AC songs lately)

Granted, "Grease Megamix" was a good choice in terms of music variety, but I couldn't get past the fact that it technically didn't fit the theme.
As for Benny Mardones, I'd totally forgotten that it never charted on R&R the second time it was released. Still, the extras on Casey's shows (this one in particular) tend to lean towards what's commonly heard on AC radio over what actually did well on the charts.

The strange thing is, "Into The Night" was played even though the new 1989 version did not chart on either the R&R Pop or AC chart. Technically, Benny's rerecorded 1989 version didn't chart in Billboard either. It was the re-released original version that got most of the airplay and sales and was listed on the charts. ;)

You of all people should be glad Maroon 5 debuted- that will give the song more spins, making it a little bit closer to pushing Uncle Kracker down to #11 on the R&R AC chart.

Train got the boot, so Maroon5 will simply replace Train in the actual R&R Top 10. One can hope otherwise, tho.

Train didn't get the boot from the A/C chart, though. It is still on, though it must be getting close to 50 weeks now.
