Yeah, looking at artists like Adele, you don't need a whole bunch of sex appeal if you have the talent and strong material in order to be successful.
Anyway, I'm glad that he's finally parted ways with Jive. It was obvious that it just wasn't working between them. Hopefully now he can get with a better company that understands him better and tries harder with him.

What ??? I don't think it's even a matter if you're truthly talented. Look at Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Norah Jones...for example. Otherwise, i think he's good-looking enough (and i'm not even a fan). The problem is his songs are medicore. In my opinion, they didn't bring anything fresh into this business. I love Crush and espcially Something about love. But the on the first listen, i knew that SAB wouldn't be a hit for him. I hoped that he at least did ok with that song but i was shocked when it didn't even debut in Top 100 I agree the album was mediocre. Not bad, just not that good when he needed something terrific to break through to the next level. That he pushed Elevator when so many people disliked it was an indicator of his poor judgment. Which is why I've always thought he was something of an egotist--despite his reputation for humility. So, yeah, he needs somebody to tell him he's wrong--and there's nobody around who does that--except fans like myself who didn't buy his album on principle. On the other hand, he's basically a good kid and what he needed most of all was a huge flop to rein in his runaway ego, a good kick-in-the-pants. He was taking himself too seriously as a moral model--and sending self-conscious messages through his music--maybe because he had nothing else to give. That's no way to be a pop star. If he couldn't be honest with himself, then he needed to lean on other, more experienced, better writers for his material. The important thing should have been showcasing his vocals and his soulfulness. I really hope he learns his lesson and comes back strong in the future. I think he has potental. He just went in a wrong direction

I really hope he learns his lesson and comes back strong in the future. I think he has potental. He just went in a wrong direction So far he hasn't really learned a thing. He's focusing on song-writing. The problem with that is he's too private, he's not about to be honest about anything genuinely personal. He confuses musical artistry with sending messages--which puts his own soulfulness as a singer at odds with his song-writing. He needs to figure this out before he can move forward. That said, it's good he's left Jive. They were unwilling to spend money to promote him, expecting his fans to all the heavy lifting. Good riddance.

I'm thrilled he left Jive since they didn't do a thing to promote his last album. That being said I do hope he takes this free time to figure out exactly where he wants to go with his music. His beautiful voice is what moves people, not the "messagey" lyrics that he likes to write. Praepos said it perfectly-that he confuses musical artistry with sending messages. JMO but if he were smart he may want to think of letting other songwriters write for him for awhile until he gets alot better at it. I remember an interview with Randy Jackson on CNN once where he talked about needing a good song to sing so that people will remember you and want to hear more. I agree with that too. I think we know that David doesn't want the superstar status, but he does need to make money if he plans on this as his career. He has great potential and I hope in the future he surrounds himself with people in the industry that will lead him in the right direction.

Watching AI this season has been instructive--and gives me a new appreciation of David Archuleta. Last night Pia Toscano sang Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me and while it was a careful and polished rendition, it came nowhere near the incredible version David sang on Final Two night. While hers was cerebral, his was throbbing with passion, while hers was innovative without evoking the angst at the heart of the song, his vibrated with jazzy rhythms that were breathtakingly powerful and moving, making an old chestnut brand new again. He deserved the standing O he got that night. But watching the show this time around makes it even clearer than ever where David's musical intelligence lies. His vocals are uniquely expressive and wonderfully infuse soulfulness into a song. The Long and Winding Road was boring even when Paul McCartney sang it. But David's version was nothing short of masterful. He gave it fresh life by his phrasing and emphasis. He did the same for Imagine and Love Me Tender. Nobody singing today can do what he does. Pia's good--but she can't hold a candle to David's brilliance as an interpretative artist. Check it out. His DLTSGDOM is one of the outstanding moments in AI's ten year history: www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3omUeJevuQ

David's DLTSGDOM is one of the greatest Idol performances of all-time, I think it gets underrated when people look at his best performances. I'd put it right under Imagine.

If I had to choose a way for him to go, I'd choose exactly what he's doing now--taking time out to figure out where he's at and what the next step should be. He's been riding a whirlwind for three years. He's made his mark, he's known in the industry, he's got a brand. Leaving Jive was absolutely necessary if he wanted to go beyond their shallow effort to market him as Justin Bieber. He's auditioning for a band and moving towards touring again--which plays to his strength as a performer. In a recent vlog he also hinted that on tour he'd be doing covers as well as his own stuff--a good move for him since he's a peerless interpreter. I thought it was significant that at the NASCAR event he was introduced just as David Archuleta without the qualifier connecting him to American Idol. It indicated people know who he is. In short, he's moving in the right direction while at the same time giving himself time to live life, form relationships--grow up. It's all good.

Yeah, I think David is really smart about how he's handling all of this. He was thrown into this industry at such a young age and so quickly that he didn't really get time to think about how he wanted his career to go, and that alone could ruin a lot of people but instead he's taking some time out to sort things out and figure out where he wants to go instead of letting the industry control him and make him do things he doesn't want to. I'm pretty confident he'll come back big, maybe not commercially but at least artistically, even if it may take a little while.

Hopefully whatever he does next isn't as bland or boring as his past few albums...since he is capable of better. I think.

Loved David's cover of GGTT. It was really surprising. POTC was so beautiful. I loved hearing it with the drums and guitar. I really enjoyed his duet with Landon as well. His voice sounded so wonderful. I am excited to see David with the rest of his band at the Mayfest.

That version of POTC was stunning. I hope he puts that in his set if and when he tours, because I want to hear it live. And the Gotta Get Through This mashup was a surprise, and very very good. It's stuck in my head. Please, David? Sing these for more fans in the near future?

^ Thanks for the videos. He sounded great as usual. Especially when he let loose on his adlibs. I think David should release a covers album. It should have a good balance between ballads and midtempos on it. Maybe one or two uptempos on it. But it should have a lot of songs that show off his voice really well. We saw how great he handled covering great songs on American Idol. Maybe it could get him a hit or two and a good album era. Also bonus tracks or CD with acoustic versions of some of the covers.

I love Blackbird, especially that video I embedded. And I am so happy that he has a mellow creative band that doesn't stomp all over him with snares and fuzz bass like some of his other bands have. Every musician in this band is wonderful. And best of all - no freaking backing tracks sounding fake and boxing him in! I love it. BTW his Asia tour is filling out nicely. I sure hope he gets to bring at least one musician with him. So far Indonesia and Philippines are listed on the OS, the Vietnam poster (yes - finally Vietnam!) has been seen, and last night Sony Malaysia left intriguing hints on Facebook and Twitter "Elevator is going up , please keep Tuesday 26 July night free as we will have something special for everyone , please stay tuned" (prompting many OMG David YES!!! type of comments). Vietnam poster idolmusic2011.com/images/idolposter.png====== 6/16/11 There was a Chinese newspaper article today asking for David to add China, Japan, Singapore, Thailand to his tour. And this interview seems to say David is working on a 2011 Christmas tour (I would love that) twitpic.com/5ckbdn/full---------- 6/20/2011 Good interview Q. Do you have a definite plan on what you're going to do next? DA: I want to try to release something new for the fans. I don't want to make a full album this year, of course I will down the road, but not this year. But I do want to give something. And so I've been thinking about releasing another song for the fans who've been so patient, and have been good. And that's what I'm working towards. In the last couple of weeks... [...] Q. Is going independent an option or are you looking to sign with a different company soon? DA: I've actually met with other record labels and I got offered deals to get signed again. But I just felt like you know what, why? It's like why get signed so I can have the same problems that I had before? I want to spend time writing, get those songs together, and then go out and say I'm ready. I'm ready to make an album and show it to the record labels and say this is the music I'm going to do... world.yes.my/?q=ytlc&id=517#.Tf8K_N9vCQE;twitter

Read my April post. For that matter, read the earlier posts. I've said all along what David needed was time out. I think he's a major talent with huge potential--if he can tap into the grownup stuff deep down. To do that he needs some space. So I think he's more than smart--he's wise as well. He's taking time off, rejecting other label offers for now, enjoying some free air--and heading back to Nashville--which is a lot more congenial for him than LA would be.
As for his writing--I wouldn't say it was awful--just not ripened. How could it be? He hasn't got himself in focus yet. The fact that he knows this, and is carving out some space to find out who he is and where he's supposed to take his talent, is half the battle for any real artist. And most often it takes failure of some sort to get to that point. Life has its own lessons to teach--and recalibrating what worked and didn't work is part of the process. It's all grist for the mill.

Asian release: The Other Side of Down: Asian Tour Edition info:
"Watch out for the The Other Side Of Down: Asian Tour Edition, out July 2011. It includes the new hit single, Everything and More. It will also include four other tracks: Zero Gravity (from Spiderman), Love Don’t Hate, How To Breathe, and Wait. The repackaged edition will also include Karaoke versions of the original music videos of: Crush, A Little Too Not Over You, Touch My Hand, and Something ‘Bout Love. It will also include a Lyrics Booklet of the mentioned track."
And David sang on Good Things Utah today. His band was supposed to be there but their flight was delayed. David sang Falling Stars but I don't know if that was what he originally planned to sing.

On the Asian Tour Edition TOSOD, How to Breath seems to be off and Notice Me is on.
