The thing about Mariah's pop music is that it is generally a hit. She can create some excellent pop music. The world knows that. Her R&B music is hit or miss. Probably about a 50/50 shot at success with that genre of tunes. Pop is her calling. Always has been. And with the resurgence of pop music as the mainstream, I would hope she would capitalize on it. I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time should be her inspiration for recording new music. ...because IBLULT was such a hit, right? LOL. Mariah's heart is in R&B - always has been, always will be. People need to get used to that. I haven't liked a Mariah pure pop song since...I don't even know when.

It might be a "pop" song but it also has some R&b elements in it.

The Can't Let Go unplugged version is easily my favourite Mariah recording ever...gives me shivers everytime I listen to it; she really gets the emotion across well in that performance, especially the second verse and the ending...

Because she was the SHIT back then! Pop royalty. If she put that out today it would feature Lloyd, Lil Wayne, Drake, Gucci…Nick Canon would direct the video and she’d be throwing cash at the camera and look like a Magic City retiree! Fall of a Diva!!!

I was listening to "The Emancipation of Mimi" today.. Something about that album just seems to have a quality that E=MC2 and Memoirs both don't have.

It still got 30 million AI or so. If it were the second single, well, "Bye Bye" got up to 50 million AI. I'm sure her exposure on Idol, Oprah, etc would have garnered greater support for IBLULT than what it did for that terrible song.

If I had to pick one of the three, I would pick E=MC2. But I still think I agree with you... just bc some songs on E are very generic, whereas everything on TEOM -although I still don't like some- sounds polished and well done.

IBLULT should have came right after TMB, followed by ISIL. Bye, Bye was almost as dumb a single choice as IWKWLI was.

I would say Bye Bye was a much worse song than IWKWLI. IBLULT is an awesome song... I still enjoy listening to that, TMB, I'm That Chick from E=MC. Those are still my favorite tracks from the album. I actually have been listening to E=MC more now than MOAIA. The tracks just feel bland on MOAIA... with the exception of Obsessed. I don't think Ribbon or More Than Just Friends or anything from the album can save it. Unless she records something new and really, really hot and re-releases, the album is done.

Maybe she could do what Lady gaga did with The Fame and The Fame Monster: Record practically a new album and re-release MOAIA along with that. The new songs would have to be great though.

Much too late to do that. ^ Just put out whatever they have for the diehard fans at this point and try again in 2 years.

At the same time, even with the production, something just still sounds so organic about it. In comparison, E is a totally polished party album, and Memoirs... Don't get me wrong; it's one of my favourite CDs, but I found some parts be quite lacking production-wise (Standing O, anybody?).

Umm...Standing O is almost baroque in its production; as is everything else on this album but Standing O, more so...listen carefully.

That something would be a great diversity of music. It's a great album. I also quite enjoy E=MC2... it's a fun record. It's definately one I enjoy listening to in the summer time. Memoirs is just a borefest outside of "H.A.T.E.U" and "Becha Gon Know."

Emancipation was QUALITY. That's why it was such a huge comeback for her both musically and commercially.

Couldn't sleep, so I went to my favorite website, sporcle.com, and played this game, where it plays 3 seconds of each song that went to #1 in the 2000s and you had to name what it was. After you take the quiz you see which answers were the "most missed." I thought it was funny that of all the songs that went to #1 in the 2000s, people recognized "Thank God I Found You" the least. People recognized those B.S. American Idol songs before they recognized that one. Just 8.1% who took the quiz got TGIFY. Other Mariah songs did better. Don't Forget About Us (25%), Touch My Body (33.8%) and WBT (53.2%). The most correctly guessed was 50 Cent's "In Da Club" at 78% followed by "Hey Ya" at 77.4%. Not surprisingly, more recent songs tended to do better. www.sporcle.com/games/crazyguy/2000s1s

Haha, now more people have taken the quiz, and now TGIFY is no longer last! haha. It's up to 12% now.

I guess I listen to too much pop music. I'm glad this project is officially shelved. It was going nowhere.

So AA is shelved...wow! Can't say I'm surprised. I wonder if Def Jam is going to screw up her next era too.

^I think she should go to Jive. Yeah they are good with only twentysomethings but that's okay. Anyone who can get Britney 3 Top 2 songs from her last era is the label to go to!
Def Jam has killed too many artist careers over the years.
