People need to chill here. Fearless was pretty obviously the 'album of the year' critically LOL.

lol I agree with you. It should be based on sales and I think Grammy's are finally starting to wake up. This year's show was very commercial and that's what it should be all about. Awarding artists that are actually popular and relevant. If they want to do that they need to quit calling the awards "music's highest honor." And again, an act not being popular makes them irrelevant and not worthwhile? You realize that the vast majority of music genres/types and acts above a certain age are intentionally ignored by mainstream radio, right? Don't know why you even bothered responding to his statement -- it's clearly worthless and coming from an utterly clueless source.

Overall a good show! I personally enjoyed alot of the performances! Loved the winners, and I'm happy with the outcome.
Would have liked to see Pink or Kelly win Pop Album, but I'm fine with the peas winning.
I'd have also liked to see Dance Recording given out on air(commerical nominees, Brit was there, plus it would have gave GaGa her grammy moment), but nothing major.
Every year people always complain about the outcome, not everyone is gonna like the outcome at any award show.

The Grammys have never been about honoring acts with big critical success. Sometimes, yeah, nominees and winners have been acts who were highly regarded. But a lot of times, not the case. It's not "Best Album of the Year," just "Album of the Year." What's made some of the many nominees and winners through the years "Album of the Year," who knows. Remember, Christopher Cross was the one of the only acts I think to win the "Big 4" (BNA, ROTY, SOTY, & AOTY) and he disappeared as soon as he won those awards. Where is he now? They're still fun to watch, but like every award show, they're full of flaws, most likely subjective because the respective person doesn't agree with it. The last album of the year winner I remember being really happy for was Lauryn Hill in 1999 and that was over a decade ago.

I understand how y'all feel though, really. When Alicia Keys beat Beyonce and Janhova for some R&B award a few years back, I held a grudge against her that I didn't get over til last year.

Grammy awards are not based on sales. Fearless winning would be a case where sales and critical acclaim coincide but they usually do not

Has Beyonce ever won Album of the Year? Nope, it was her first nomination in general with or without DC.

Has Beyonce ever won Album of the Year? No. This is Beyonce first year winning a general category award (Song of the Year).

People need to chill here. Fearless was pretty obviously the 'album of the year' critically LOL. What are you LOLing about? When you combine critical and commercial success it seems pretty obvious it was the biggest album of the year. That's too bad that it doesn't line up with your personal tastes but that's the way it goes.

From Melody Thornton of the Pussycat Dolls Twitter:

Overwhelmingly disappointed I think @ladygaga deserved to accept a Grammy on camera and thank her fans. She turned the industry around...

I say this as a HUGE GaGa fan:
She should start being a little bit more humble if she wants to win big Next Year.
The Fame Monstar > The Fame
And stop pimping Speechless, give people what they want to see: BR or Telephone.

None of the AOTY nominees did? Nope. Again, the Grammys have nothing to do with quality and do not equal critical support.

and now you're starting to sound like a gray pony tailed snob. Or someone with taste. Am I supposed to believe that Taylor Swift's albums are better pieces of music than the most recent albums from everyone from MGMT to Fleet Foxes to Vampire Weekend and even other mainstream acts like Lady Gaga and Pink simply because they sold more? Please. You are this unrelenting shell of a creature, aren't you? AOTY is in its poorest state but Swift's LP is considerably grander than her fellow nominees' submissions. And please stop toting the three marginally left-field acts you know. For the record, Fearless overrides Oracular Spectacular, as well as both Vampire Weekend & Fleet Foxes' respective, eponymous debuts. Enough out of you.

What point are you proving? He clearly said "COMBINING CRITICAL AND COMMERCIAL SUCCESS." Your lists prove nothing. "Fearless" does, in fact, combine (high, not THE highest) critical success with the highest commercial success.

None of the AOTY nominees did? Minimalism, you know that the Shortlist Music Prize that we have in America is more indicative of what's the best album of the year rather than the Grammies though. ;)

You are right, it probably is *worthless*, it's not like it's going to have any impact on how the Grammys are awarded. It's just as worthless as your response.
