I have been pro-iTunes for a long time. I have many, many songs and albums purchased from the huge online retailer; however, I've recently been drawn to Amazon mp3's (which download automatically into my iTunes library). Amazon prices are almost always lower than iTunes. Yesterday I decided to buy The E.N.D. and was about to pay $10.99 on iTunes when I decided to check Amazon first.... and I bought the album for $5.99! Also paid less this week for Lady Antabellum.
Has anyone else made this switch? How much of the market does Amazon make up? With these prices, surely it's growing quite consistently. (??)
ETA: I Am... Sasha Fierce is $3.99 there now.

I don't have much experience with amazon mp3 purchases, but I've heard amazon's quality is superior to that on iTunes, as well.
Another thread had the make-up info: iTunes comprises around 68% of the market.

You don't get the album liner notes in amazon, whereas you get a digital booklet with itunes. I buy from Amazon when they sell albums for $5 or less but otherwise I buy from iTunes.

See, having so many physical albums, I used to the the digital booklet was important. Now, I don't even know they are there. I can't remember the last time I looked at a digital booklet. If it's an artist I truly like, I buy the physical album.

I like Amazon MP3! Their prices are much cheaper than iTunes. Plus Amazon MP3 are starting to add digital booklets and video to some digital albums. Amazon MP3's Twitter: twitter.com/amazonmp3

I've been buying Amazon's MP3s for well over a year. It's a lot cheaper than iTunes plus NO SALES TAX (except WA/CA only i think). However I love their $3.99 $5 and $7.99 deals. In addition to that, all their MP3s come in .mp3 format with NO DRM and even if you use iTunes their app automatically adds your purchases into your library. Their store is so underrated.

I posted this on another forum back in October
I've been minutes away from purchasing an album on iTunes 4 times over the past 3 weeks and then I told myself to go check out Amazon's MP3 site to see if it was discounted.
Jay-Z - Blueprint 3 ($17 iTunes) / ($6 Am) Purchased on iTunes because I wanted to try the LP feature. Kid Cudi - Man on the Moon ($12 iTunes - Deluxe) / ($6 Am - Deluxe) Paramore - Brand New Eyes ($15 iTunes - Deluxe) / ($4 Am) Mariah Carey - Memoirs ($13 iTunes) / ($6 Am)
I'll admit, I'm a fanboy of Apple, so I try to keep things in house, but you can't beat paying $5-$10 less per album if it's offered. Why isn't the pricing the same on both sites? Also, Amazon even adds the music to iTunes. LOL I found that to be hilarious...

I pretty much always download from Amazon because it's cheaper almost every time. And as others have stated, they often have amazing deals where albums cost anywhere from $3-8, prices you almost never see on Itunes. I only download from Itunes when something isn't available on Amazon.

I prefer Amazon's MP3 store as the files play in all audio programs (I do use iTunes to play my music) and the files are compatible with all of the major MP3 player devices.
Their selection is pretty decent, especially now that they have been open for over 2 years now. The deals they have at certain times are really good. I used to buy only at iTunes back in the day and occasionally Walmart, but I didn't like the DRM associated with the files and the quality wasn't that good, especially when a digital album and CD version sometimes cost the same and the CD would be a better value since you got it in excellent quality, liner notes, and you don't have to burn it to back it up. I buy individual tracks from Amazon. For albums and comps, I'll still buy them on CD.
