Due to the recent few 'crossover' hits from folk-leaning artists and the general confusion as to why they aren't charting on Country Songs despite being on the Airplay component, here are the Billboard rules on charting on Country Songs (if you want more specifics, you can go to Bill Werde's Twitter and try and go back to when the changes were made):
*Songs defined by Billboard as 'country' (ie. WANEGBT, Wanted, Don't Rush) have country airplay, as well as any crossover play and streaming (I do not believe remix sales count, but don't quote me on that), count towards chart position on Country Songs.
*Songs defined by Billboard as 'not country' (ie. Ho Hey, I Will Wait, Bruises) only have country airplay and sales/streaming of a country remix count. Out-of-format airplay and sales are not included.
*Billboard factors in overall sound as well as, to an extent, the artist's history in the genre.
So basically, even though some crossover songs are getting airplay, they will only get country airplay counted towards their standing. These rules apply to the other genre charts that use the crossover play as well (ie. Rock, R&B, Rap) Billboard can, however, change the definition of a song - they did this with many songs after the first week of changes, such as changing '50 Ways to Say Goodbye' from 'rock' to 'not rock' and thus causing it to drop off Rock Songs chart entirely despite a #3 entry. It may not do much, but e-mailing your case towards Billboard for their weekly Q&A columns could very well yield a response.

What's "Heart Pounding" on 3/25? I can't figure that ad out. It's "Highway Don't Care". The picture is cracked paint lines on the highway. Also, AllAccess has that same image as the thumbnail for HDC. |

Gotta love the Blake Shelton domination on the mongrel chart, the airplay chart, and the digital chart. Thank God Luke Bryan tops the albums chart.

They yanked it but I don't know why. It still sold 30,000 last week and has quite a bit of airplay at both the country and pop formats yet. I'm 99% positive it should still be on the mongrel chart (by Billboard's own rules), but I guess they don't care about following their own rules or about making good charts anymore.

This wouldn't be the first time that Billboard violates their recurrent rules. If I recall just a couple months ago they sent ZBB's Goodbye In Their Eyes recurrent a week before they should have. Wanted did go recurrent on the Hot 100 this week; maybe they decided it should go recurrent on both charts at the same time since its extended stay on the "country" chart was largely due to crossover airplay.

If Kacey Musgraves would've stayed in the top 10 with "Merry Go 'Round", and Miranda Lambert then got in with "Mama's Broken Heart", it would've been one of those rare instances where Kacey had two top 10's at the same time, one as a singer and one as a songwriter. My question is:
When was the last time an artist had 2 songs in the top 10: one as a singer of his own song, and as a songwriter of someone else's song?

^This doesn't answer that question because I have no idea, but Tim had two songs in the top 10 simultaneously with FLAR and BTIUTB last spring (summer?).

In August, 2009 her You Belong With Me was at #3 while Kellie Pickler entered the top ten (for her only time) with the Swift-penned Best Days Of Your Life at #10. The top ten chart for that week looked like: BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING AUGUST 8, 2009: 1. People Are Crazy-Billy Currington-Mercury 2. Alright-Darius Rucker-Capitol 3.
