While I was reading my mid-week update, Billboard sent me another one. Did that happen to anyone else?

Florida Georgia Line has now spent 16 weeks at #1 with Cruise on the mongrel chart. I suppose Billboard will consider that equal with the last time a song spent that much time at the top: Buck Owens' Love's Gonna Live Here from 1963-1964. F.G.L.=Owens? I think not.

^Well, six more weeks at #1 and the biggest hits by Eddy Arnold (I'll Hold You In My Heart Till I Can Hold You In My Arms-1947), Hank Snow (I'm Moving On-1950-the #1 country hit of all time), and Webb Pierce (In The Jailhouse Now-1955) will have some unusual company!

Edit: Spacey_Kacey posted at the same time I did, so I'll just put my comment here. Jake Owen -- 43.8 million. Brad is at #3 with 42.3 million...yet he's only #3. Wow. Brantley Gilbert, at #10, has 29.3 million...typically enough for the #6 ranking or even #5 sometimes. Part of it is indeed due to new stations, including WNSH in New York as well as the return of KPLX in Dallas and KIIM in Tucson, but we've seen this escalation continue to build into a trend. First, "Highway Don't Care" set the new audience record of 41.6 million, then Blake cruised past that, and now Jake tops Blake, and both Luke and Brad have a higher peak audience than HDC ever had, yet they aren't even at #1. Crazy, crazy times in chart-world.

Luke is so far ahead of DONE in both audience and spins that it looks like he could be at #1 for another, imo, 1-3 weeks! I wonder if we could be looking at a single of the year nominee at the CMA's?

I really shouldn't be having a big discussion about the charts in this thread, but the only reason Luke is still gaining is because his label is apparently going to continue pushing "Crash My Party" for another week. While this is a monster hit, it's not one of those massive hits that stay at #1 for a month or so and go down in country music history as being absolutely phenomenal. #1 songs always fall very quickly once the label stops promoting them. Nowadays, songs almost never get extra weeks at #1 once they have been "let go." Luke has gotten so high in audience that, as soon as he starts to fall next week, it will only be a matter of days before he is unseated from the top. I'd say there is almost no way he will get another week at #1 after this weekend's charts. It may seem like his song is unstoppable now, but this is pretty much all artificial, behind-the-scenes manipulation causing the song to still continue gaining. Now, I am not saying it is not a huge hit, but it would not be posting these huge gains naturally at this point in its run. As soon as Capitol stops promoting the song, Luke will start losing spins and audience quickly. You will see how it works next week. ETA: Also, as jhomes87 noted in another thread, the song will probably not be posting these hugs gains all week. I expect it to start posting extremely small gains as early as tomorrow and by the end of the week Luke could be looking like "Highway Don't Care" did at the end of its second week at #1, where it is actually posting small losses of spins and audience. The bullet for this week could actually be barely positive. Not quite sure how big this is going to be, but there's no way Luke is going to keep pulling this off for another or or three weeks.

In concerns to the bolded part of your post I've been thinking about how many of the members of the board here complain about "manipulation" and how it's "artificial" but in my view it's really not...or it is but so is every single song that's on the chart. If there was no manipulation then the Major labels wouldn't be as powerful and we'd see more of the small time artists getting airplay. It's the labels' job to promote the song and push it up the chart so honestly I never got the argument of hating the pushes. Sure some of them are a little rediculous, like "More Than Miles"'s push because I don't see the benefit of the few extra weeks, but that's what Valory's job is. Honestly I never hated seeing blatant pushes because I view every single single as being manipulated. For example radio is obviously not feeling "Bourbon In Kentucky" yet it debuted pretty quickly, I doubt it would've done even what little it has if Dierks wasn't on Capitol.

Wonder if any Randy Travis tunes will crack the mongrel chart next week.
