I'm really liking the new format of the Billboard Country Update. I was afraid that they'd put the mongrel Hot Country Songs chart front and center, but that's buried at the bottom of the update, below the Country Indicator and Texas charts.
I liked how the "Going For Adds" section is right below the top 60, and I like how they spotlighted "Dibs" like that (bottom of page 7). I imagine they'll do a different song every week.
Phyllis Stark's "The Stark Report" is great this week as well -- she chose to highlight (and paid a great tribute) to MJ's Big Blog, which is where Windmills writes a lot of really great stuff.

Does anyone know where I can find the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts dated before January 1985? That's as far back as Billboard goes.

Nope Luke can't go recurrent this week cause he has spent less than 20 weeks on the chart. So no mistake from BB.

Nope. This is only Luke's 2nd bullet-less week. Songs get 2 drop weeks if they're 20 weeks or younger, and so sometimes they'll fall out of the top 10 during the 2nd drop week. Normally "Kick The Dust Up" wouldn't have fallen very fast at all (because it's such a young song), but it's losing spins extra fast as radio shifts to "Strip It Down" instead.

I also noticed that Run Away With You is still not on the mongrel chart even though it's top 30 on country airplay. I emailed Keith Caulfield about this and he replied me that they're looking at this and are checking out what the issue is.

Big & Rich's sales are really low, but yeah, you'd think they'd be on HCS, especially because Drake White is on tonight's HCS chart at #44 and his sales and airplay are even lower than the numbers for Big & Rich. And I can't imagine that Drake's song is getting enough streams that it would be able to make up the sales/airplay difference between it and "Run Away With You" (when it comes to chart points). Parmalee's "Already Callin' You Mine" is also on HCS at #34, and its iTunes position is quite a bit lower than Big & Rich's.

And how "Sounds of Summer" is on it Yeah that's been bothering me since you mentioned it last week. I can't find any airplay for it, and certainly not enough to make it onto the mongrel chart. He sings it in concert so I can see downloads/streaming happening from that, but it's still weird.

Contrary to what is mentioned in the methodology column; I have the feeling that songs are also removed from the mongrel chart after 26 weeks when unbulleted and still inside the Top 25 and fall right out of the Top 10 when they would have charted for a 30th week in the subsequent week and ranked outside the Top 10. I'm pretty sure that Luke Bryan will stay in the Top 25 for 26 straight weeks when he continues to get airplay, sales and streaming points.

There are some changes to the mongrel chart. Big & Rich's "Run Away with You" is now at #32, and Kelsea Ballerini's "Dibs" is now at #34. This pushes David Nail's "Broke My Heart" and Luke Bryan's "Just Over" out of the Top 50, and also pushes every song below Dibs 2 spots down (the Bryan-Fairchild collaboration also moves down one slot)
