^ Not happening, though I wish.
D'Angelo may be dropping an album this year. It's been ten years since his last release. I wonder if he will pull off similar numbers. His last album did hit #1 I think.

Wow, incredible numbers for Sade. Jaheim's debut is strong as well, I need to check out his album.

I think Sade releases albums every so often purposely. I think they notice that overexposure causes bad eras. Every time they release an album, it's like an "event." They always follow their roots without sounding dated. Some artists should take note. That may be so, but there's a difference between avoiding overexposure and waiting 10 years between album releases. I think an artist can easily avoid overexposure by releasing an album every 4 years or so. But you are right that because they haven't had an album in so long it makes it more like an event (much like Maxwell and Whitney's returns last year). Also, not every act has the luxury of releasing an album whenever they get around to it...some artists are under contract to release albums on a regular basis.

Fantastic number for Sade! :o Josh's number seems a bit low? Didn't his previous debut at around 100k?

Josh's number seems a bit low? Didn't his previous debut at around 100k? Everything Is Fine debuted with 83,562 in first-week sales (83,688 including street-date violations). But that was coming off a two million seller in Your Man. Everything Is Fine had sold something like 588K through mid-April of last year (at which point it was selling about a thousand copies per week). With that in mind, I had pretty low expectations for first-week sales and was going to be relieved if he hit 50K. It looks like he will do a bit better than that, plus "Why Don't We Just Dance" is doing pretty solid download numbers on its own. So I'm pretty pleased with the current projection for him. Great numbers for Sade! It's good to see.

^ Oh, okay, thanks for the info. :) I guess with WDWJD being the smash that it is (even bigger than his lead single from the last album), I was just expecting something closer to 100k, but the current projection is quite decent. Albums from male country stars seem to be down overall anyway, with recent releases from Tim, Toby, Keith, and Brad are all struggling to reach 1 million copies, so his numbers aren't too bad, after all.

Whereas Sade has always been in a league of her own and not just another artist in the group of many similar ones.

I never even realized it was also the name of the group. Sade (the singer) really is the star. Even HDD refers to Sade more like a solo artist:

I think mistakenly refer to the band as a solo artist just do that because the band and the person have the same name. You wouldn't refer to any other band by just their singer.

Sade Adu is the singer who is always on the covers of their albums. So that may be another reason why so many people mistaken the band as just the lead singer. Pretty common. At the Grammys in 2001, Sade was nominated for Best Pop Female Vocal Performance as a soloist. So, I think it's interchangeable. But Sade Adu is undoubtedly the star of the band.
Anyway, Can Sade get another week at #1? They are saving some of their promotion until next week. Is there any notable releases next week?

Yeah, but that's the same situation as with Sade. You wouldn't call Green Day "Billie Joe Armstrong." You wouldn't call Incubus "Brandon Boyd." You wouldn't call the Black Eyed Peas "Will.i.am" or "Fergie." But because in Sade's (or Daughtry's) case the band and singer have the same name, people often mistakenly refer to the entire band as just the solo artist.

YOUR VALENTINE'S WEAKEND CHART PREVIEW: What symmetry! Each of the Big Four will snag a spot in the Top 4 next week, as Sade leads the way with a total trending well above 400k. That'll give the biz 400k+ twice in the first six weeks of 2010, and surpriningly strong sales so far, as I.B. Bad details in his latest column. As Mel Allen used to say, how about that?
* Sade (Epic) 425-450k Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 150-160k * Jaheim (Atlantic) 100-110k Lil Wayne (Cash Money/Universal Motown) 80-85k * Josh Turner (MCA Nashville) 60-65k Lady Gaga, The Fame (Interscope) 60-65k * tobyMac (ForeFront) 55-60k Black Eyed Peas (Interscope) 50-55k Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 35-40k * Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds (RCA/RMG) 35-40k Mary J. Blige (Geffen) 30-35k Susan Boyle (Columbia) 30-35k Zac Brown Band (Atlantic) 30-35k Michael Buble (Reprise) 30-35k Alicia Keys (J/RMG) 30-35k
* Denotes debut
You may now return to ordering that special Valentine's gift online for Saturday delivery. (2/12a)

I'm amazed at how well Sade's selling! I can imagine their fans were starving for some new material and new converts like myself have discovered their smooth, sultry sound. Also impressed with how well Lady A is holding up in its 3rd week and impressed at Jaheim's debut. I remember him from the early 2000's - even bought his debut CD - but didn't even realize he was still around until a few months ago. Taylor's getting yet another week in the top 10. And Subo's finally making her way down the chart. I definitely forsee an Xmas 2010 release for her. Probably won't match the heights of the debut, but will probably sell extremely sell anyway.

Soldier Of Love (the song) gained Sade new fans IMO. It's an updated sound for them, but it also fits well with their music style :)

Sade is not really a group. So let's give her the credit she deserves. It's makes more sense to change all the "they" to "she." Sade is a very unique artist. No one cares what musicians are backing her up.

No one cares what musicians are backing her up. Not true. There's no doubt that Sade the person is the main driving force behind the popularity of the band, but to pretend the band has nothing to do it with their success is just silly.

Also, when Sade won the Grammy for Best New Artist...all the members names were listed on the official Grammy website.
Sade (Sade Adu, Paul S. Denman, Andrew Hale, Stuart Matthewman), artist.
