Well considering Toni only has 1 active fansite, I really wasnt referring to that. Except that site has a link to these boards and most of the people saying they love the song are from there, so don't act like the 8th world wonder is panning out in front of us when "there's such great support!" because its kind of ignorant of you. And for the record, I love Toni and like the song a lot so brush off those "hater" comments I feel coming my way. I'm just making a point that it's annoying for someone to keep saying "there's so much positive feedback" when we can read people's comments ourselves.

I think we need to wait to see how the general public responds before we hail this any kind of hit.

Just heard this today, thought I'd comment.
I honestly think Hit the Freeway might have been better than this, and that's pretty sad. Vocally, Toni still has that sexy, sultry thing going for her, but she slips into a weird raspy thing (ala Mariah) at times and there are no real notes for her to "hit." The production is pretty cool, nice beat and good use of a violin sample - but it's nothing original. And the lyrics are pretty stupid, but no one cares about those pesky lyrics these days.
This is a decent club "heater" track, but nothing more. If she (or her record label) plans to firmly plant an album based on this song, I think they will be sorely mistaken.

HOT beat
Although a hot beat doesnt guarantee anything, see "Hit the Freeway", which was a HOT song, IMO...and it was stuck at #88 on the Hot 100 for like 5 weeks straight lol

HOT beat Although a hot beat doesnt guarantee anything, see "Hit the Freeway", which was a HOT song, IMO...and it was stuck at #88 on the Hot 100 for like 5 weeks straight lol Thing about that is: A) Her label gave her NOOOOOO promo because they knew she was about to walk out the door B) She was pregnant and couldn't promote it much herself C) That song was such a BLATANT attempt at capitalizing on the fact that everyone hot at the time used a Neptunes beat. D) Her vocals were weak. This time: A) She's now the biggest name at her new label and they have no one else to really promote right now. B) While this song is done by the "it" producer of the moment, it's not as obvious. He delivers a hot beat, but if I didn't know better I'd never guess it was done by the same guy that did "Candy Shop" or "Let Me Love You" C) Her vocals are back! She may not be belting, but she is sounding good. D) While this is a "club track," it's still midtempo enough that it's not a "clubbanger" so it doesn't look like Toni is trying to be a 19 year old hooche just looking for a quick hit. I'm not saying this is going to explode, but I do think that she has a lot more on her side this time that'll help her out at radio.

About Hit the Freeway, it was also "in" at the time to have Loon do a guest verse on an R&B song. But I dont get how it was a BLATANT attempt at using a Neptunes beat, if everyone else was using a Neptunes beat at the time then what makes Toni's the BLATANT one?

if everyone else was using a Neptunes beat at the time then what makes Toni's the BLATANT one? Because it flopped, and after a song flops theories as to why it did always occur. Toni didnt look anymore blatant than anyon else, but since it flopped people want to make it seem as if she was desperate or whatever. if it had done well she would have been considered "smart" to use them like when she used Darkchild on "he wasnt man enough".

Toni's was a BLATANT one because it's not her style of music. I'd expect someone like Britney or Nelly to use the Neptunes because their music is all about production anyway. But Toni used to be an artist, so it was BLATANT and it backfired.

Didn't think so. Andddddd she would have been a sell-out. My point is "Please" isn't nearly as obvious a Storch production as "Freeway" was a Neptunes one. "Please" doesn't sound like his other songs, and he produces R&B slow jams anyway.... so Toni seems more in her own style on "Please."

Most of Scott Storch's songs are upbeat. He's done only a couple slow songs. Other than that, I agree.

"Secrets" is a great album but she couldn't sing "Secrets" material in 2002 and expect to get a hit. Music changes, the industry changes and she had to change with it. In 2002 pure r&b like whats on the "secrets" album didnt stand half a chance at bein successful. there is a better chance for that now with people like Alicia Keys and John Legend being successful, but in 2002? Hell No. Call it being a sell out or whatever else, but at the end of the day people want a hit. When Toni used Dakchild, who was the producer of the moment that EVERYONE was goin to and got a hit out of it, there was no problem and she wasnt called a sell out. Using Darkchild was no different than going to the Neptunes. The only difference was "hit the freeway" had a rapper on it and it wasnt a hit becaus it wasnt pushed. If you want Toni to recreate "secrets" with every album then you will be dissapointed because it cant, wont, and will not ever happen as long as Toni desires to be relevant in the music industry. All artists change with the shape of the indstry, especially as the get older but they still want to be as popular and as relevant as they ever were. Do u think "its like that" could have been on any of Mariahs 1st few albums? Hell no. but its a song that fits into whats on popular radio today. its not a "dreamlover" or an "emotions" but it worked. Even Whitney did it on "my love is your love" by working with darkchild and appealing to the younger audeince. Are they sell outs? Its what you have to do if you want to stay relevant.

To change the subject from this battle about "Hit The Freeway," "Please" goes for adds @ Urban and Rhythmic on May 3rd. Which isn't that far away.
I checked the Urban chart today and Toni's at 101 so we can expect her on the Bubbling Under Hip Hop/R&B chart soon.

That's very far away for a song that's already floating around the internet everywhere. It needs to go for adds within the next 2 weeks because it will lose whatever initial hype it has by then.

If they are smart they will send "please" to urban and Rhythmic" and send "s'posed to be" to Urban AC. that way all the formats are covered and all the formats are aware of new Toni coming out. That way she has the potential for bigger sales if all the markets are covered. She still has a large fanbase at urban Ac who wants to hear new stuff from her but she also has fans at urban and rhythmic.

This is not Toni. I have bought all of her albums and I have never heard anything like this.
She doesnt even sound right singing over some ghetto hood beat with a voice like hers.
Songs like this are for artists who cant sing, Toni can, and I dont appreciate Toni doing this to get a hit. I can understand Toni wanting a uptempo song but this is too much. Toni "Please" seperate yourself from everyone else and dont follow the crowed. You the Diva here.

It's not really uptemo it's more of a crunk sound like "Oh" & "Candy Shop" I'm perhaps the most critical person of Toni's recent music there is, and I HATE crunk and 50 Cent so if she were to try sound like either of those, I'd be the first to slam here. I just don't see how this song remotely sounds like crunk or a beat 50 Cent would use.

I agree that the Urban AC can play Sposed to Be and everywhere else can play Please..do you all think she can get hits with both songs?
