Really? Did any of them win american idol over the favorite in season 8? Then yeah there's your answer. Some are very interested in Kris every move to somehow validate who the real winner was. Because you know people don't like underdogs and Susan Boyle not winning her show, her results weren't called into question only last year's... Just the many ridiculous meme and statements rolling around.

I know it's unheard of that there are many like me who like both guys but someone mentioned the other day wishing Adam wasn't from idol, ditto and add Kris to the mix. This gets old and my days of fighting in the sandbox on the playground is long over but sadly this is par for the course in this fandom. But since I have bwcu in my signature....uh oh I guess I need to add the exceptional Broken open to even things out.

Well here’s my outsider’s thoughts about the whole thing if anyone’s interested in newby perspective.

As a novice at this, I thought Adam’s sales and air play were about where I expected all things considered. That’s because he's from American Idol AND I’m in the “institutional homophobia” camp. I’m part of the LGBT world so let’s not go too far down that path please. If you’re not in it you just don’t get it. I was just grateful that djs’ homophobic on air comments were fairly benign and Z100 treated him well so …ok.

Until around February and I saw things like the Orianthi anomaly. That really annoyed me. But you cannot even compare her to Adam because she is technically NOT a new artist and has insider backing. And is a girl in Top 40 radio. I don’t know how sales have ANYTHING to do with radio play given her Billboard peak at 88.

The comparison with Kris Allen seems obvious even to me, if you’re forced to compare with SOMEone.

Both were new and came from Idol and theoretically Kris should have a much larger fan base given his win. Yes Adam had equal “fame” obviously. But the Idol bubble isn’t all that pervasive. My dentist was a fan but didn’t even know when the album came out. Other than him, not a single person I know in real life reallycared much about AI.

Who else can you compare him to for tracking the actions of radio and sales?

Why? Yes, nobody knows. Saying “every song has it’s challenges” is not any kind of answer to me. I am lost in the single sales = radio spin type of conjecture. But if “its” that, can someone put it in a simple three sentence reply?

Why not believe it was his AMA performance? It's as good an explanation as any. I mean, duh? (I loved that performance, btw)

If you want me to suspend disbelief in “it’s not homophobia” for now, fine. But it would make more sense to me to say Kris got more spins out of the box based on being THE Idol and his post Idol sales numbers. Or that Sony was using a strategy of focusing on Kris “more” or “first” in radio while putting Adam out as a multi media type celeb versus just music so as to ensure that they could get Kris the proper radio play they wanted from him and not be overshadowed. Sorry for the poor sentence structure lol.

After all, they have to watch out for the American Idol brand too, no? And I’m quite sure TPTB felt/feel Adam WILL have “a career” regardless of being a superstar immediately like some of you seem to claim was predicted or not. You cannot be so sure of that for Kris. Especially with Idol petering out of late. If there were media INTEREST we’d see him out there plain and simple. MTV had Lambert on their home page not Kris OR Orianthi (for example) all weekend. And he's featured there today on their landing page (with Orianthi in the top 10) now as Hot Videos.

Z100 picked Kris up almost from day one with 50 spins so this debate about Clear Channel being a more strategic focus for Adam really seems like a red herring to me.

Nobody here works for RCA and can speak with any authority about the back room efforts there but we DO know that the RCA representative posted on Adam Official that a high level exec was on an aggressive crusade fighting to get Cumulus to add WWFM just a week or so before they did… and that it was an “issue”. So either he’s lying or ….what? Perhaps making up a late excuse when the fans kept asking about it?

And why isn’t it relevant that adding sooner exponentially would have increased all other subsequent WWFM adds and spins? Isn’t that the entire point of the formula?

No offense but this thread reads to me like several ppl trying to make a case that "adam is being treated like everyone else" way too hard. He is NOT like everyone else so how is that even believable? LOL

Now, regarding homophobia? Seriously? You’re kidding right?

I realize ppl here aren’t into (or admitting to) reading comments on the internet but if you did, you’d see the extensive hate written in homophobic terms. You can almost predict with 100% accuracy that the first or second comment on any blog will be a gay hate comment. So that counts.

Even the Muse fan board had tags for Adam Lambert postings and the song Soaked. The tags in part were “hang him from a noose”, “die in a fire”, and other sweet terms. And yes, it was the “rabid” fans who got them removed.

Even that clip you see above from AU Sunrise is inaccurate/incomplete. The actual broadcast I saw on ustream had the trailer superimposed on the screen at the end of his performance saying “[some guy] admits to fear of homosexuals” (paraphrasing) . That trailer is not shown here and most likely the ustream had some lag, but it was right smack on top of the freeze frame with Adam Lambert’s face closing note.

So was that really necessary at that very MOMENT Sunrise? OH, and last month Australia’s “senate” voted against gay marriage 45-5. Those are the facts not some rabid fan’s imagination.

So institutional homophobia we see in every aspect of daily life like on Kimmel & Letterman plus sentiments like “I don't understand the need to treat the most trivial things regarding Adam as some grand crusade towards equality” can be explored. Is this the thread to do it on? Or is it only acceptable to post one line drive by comments?

I can’t recall seeing anyone say “hang Kris Allen by a noose””Kris Allen is a twisted fudge packer” “Kris Allen keep your pedophilia out of society”.

Likewise, I never hear disc jockey’s referring to Kris Allen as “she” and “her” like I do Adam Lambert right on KISS. Hetero ppl think that's funny. Gay ppl do not, as a rule.

But I could be wrong. Do they make homosexual jokes about Kris? Or any OTHER jokes for that matter? lol

No it’s not quantifiable in terms of RADIO. It is quantifiable in terms of the ballot box and other political issues. So in what universe does this “choice” of the public’s being against gay marriage and other "rights" such as DADT and military benefits not translate to RADIO? IDGI.

It would be much less disingenuous to say “he’s not doing badly for an out gay guy trying to break through Top 40 radio” IMO.

Why do Cumulus need a reason for waiting with WWFM? What about all the other songs they haven't added? Sometimes stations add early, either due to label "pressure", good callout, you name it. Sometimes they add late if such incentives are lacking. Every song gets the same treatment. Few songs are universally added within two or three weeks. I don't know why that's so hard to understand?

The differential of Cumulus adds between Allen and Lambert was not two or three weeks it was three MONTHS from the first day of their respective first add.

As far as your question "why is it so hard to understand" I guess you'd have to ask the RCA representative on Adam Official.

I'm just telling you what he said. The RCA label exec was FIGHTING for the adds.

I didn't mention he said "welcome to America's bias" (paraphrasing) because I feel that may have been HIS personal narrative and it was inappropriate for him to say on the fan site regardless of if it's true or not.

Thank you that helps. I saw that CC Tampa did not add Adam until he paid with the Jingle Ball thing.

Kris was added by Clear Channel almost from day one though also did promo for CC. So did Cumulus refuse any offer of Adam promo or did RCA not request it? Nobody knows. But thanks for your answer. I forgot about that factor.

But CC doesn't do one big add like Cumulus. Kris didn't get added to several of the big market stations until way late. Adam got added pretty early because he did the promo. That's why I said earlier that I think RCA's strategy was to go after the big market CC adds and other labels/artists were able to get the priority with Cumulus.

The saturday spin by OHP had a negligible impact because there was one last saturday night too. But the Sunday spin will have been meaningful because last Sunday WWFM didn't get one.

Excellent update!

I prefer to look at the positive rather than the negative. If Adam being gay played a role in the delay of Cumulus, I choose to look at it that he's breaking down doors for that fact that they DID eventually add it. We can stay on the negative about why it took so long or focus on the positive with the updates and the adds he is getting. We each have the power to focus on hate and ignorance or love and acceptance. I choose the latter.

I knew he was on Idol, was gay and the AMAs but I never really heard his music. I didn't watch Idol, thought the AMAs were bad vocally. By chance I saw him live at a show in NY and he completely blew me away. His voice is incredible live and I bought his CD, which I think is stellar. For the non-Idol fans Adam is winning, the Kris comparisons are so very tiring.

I think it's even less because of OHP since on Sunday's, one spin is usually less than 10. So, this update is realllyyyy good!
