even though this song isn't a "rock song", this is a rock band. so i hope i've created this thread in the correct spot. thanks to killzone, i found out about this new (sorta) song released last month to raise money for The United Nations Foundation in their effort to provide disaster relief in Haiti. i wrote a review of the song. bit.ly/aola0pexcerpt: I must admit though – until it was overplayed, I was a big fan of the band's 2003 release Fallen and the other songs recorded during that era. But by the time the follow-up album The Open Door had arrived, I was long worn-out on the band's songs, sound, and most of all, their goth-wannabe fans.
So when I discovered on the Pulse Music Board I frequent that Evanescence had released a new song, I had mixed feelings. Am I still tired of them? Can they win me back? Do I even care? Well, come children. Step into my mind. And keep your arms and legs inside the ride until it has come to a complete stop.

^I don't think this is going to be on the radio or is intended to be on the radio, since the song is just a b-side on The Open Door and it was just released as a Charity single to raise funds for Haiti. It also doesn't have a proper digital single released, except when you donate to the UN.
Their first proper single from their upcoming album might be released in the late summer though. Probably the music will sound a bit like their old demo album (Origin) mixed with Portishead or something since they are fusing more electronics to this album than the previous 2 major records.
The song is good though I think that The Last Song I'm Wasting on You is the better b-side.

Sometimes b-sides are better than the song that is being promoted.

I love how we're discussing b-sides in this thread because the song that the thread is about is a B-SIDE! Not a single. Hmm....I wonder how that happened?

Hot Janet Jackson remake! Is it scary that I could actually imagine an Amy Lee sad-piano ballad version of that? Of the chorus at least.

^Well, though this is true, this isn't technically a "single." However, I do find it interesting that there are two songs in the iTunes top 10 rock songs that, not only are multiple years old, but are also non-album tracks. And then Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" is still hangin' around at number 8.

yeah that journey song still charts in europe. i know several changes have been made to music charts in the last few years that combine "catalog" with "current" (or however you want to say "old" and "new"). The song Don't Stop Believin' by Journey has been listed for 127 weeks in 3 different charts. Its first appearance was week 26/2007 in the Ireland Singles Top 50 and the last appearance was week 9/2010 in the UK Singles Top 75. Its peak position was number 4, on the Ireland Singles Top 50, it stayed there for 1 week. Its highest entry was number 14 in the Ireland Singles Top 50.acharts.us/song/26696technically stairway to heaven was never released as a single, yet it's one of the most played rock songs on radio. counting crows 'einstein on a beach' isn't a single, it's a rarity. yet it gets regular radio play. just heard it a few weeks ago on sirius and a few months back on FM.

Hey I agree that there are cases where non-singles go on to legendary status. The only point I was trying to make is that you have to be a bit discriminatory to those that seem poised to do so based on objective criteria. Otherwise, I could go make a thread for every track Metallica ever put on an album and say, "well my rock station plays it on Mandatory Metallica a lot." The rule around here is that threads can be made for songs that are either official singles from a reputable source like FMQB, allaccess, billboard, etc; the band announces the song as an official single and the band is a legitimate national act that has a significant chance at charting; or if the song is charting in the top 50 at either mediabase active rock/alternative or top 30 at mediabase mainstream rock (even if it hasn't been announced as a single).
Those are the criteria everyboady gives Artie s**t for not following (which he's gotten better at by the way) and I think it's hypocritical to not hold everyone to those standards. If everyone else is cool with asimplecomplex making these threads with the self-promoting reviews, then that's fine with me. But then don't go and give Artie s**t for doing the same thing in a less self-promoting way.
And while I don't know if there should be a thread for this song or not, I will say that I'm glad this thread exists because I did end up liking the song. I don't really care about the rules as much as it seems, but for fairness sake, 20 people will gang up on Artie for doing the same thing that you're doing, and now I'm confused as to what the rules really are if no one seems to be locking these threads like they would Artie's.
