This is shaping up to be a Rhythmic/Urban smash. Already adds and callout in all major markets on both formats, including stations in New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, and Wash DC.

It's got a very dark, hot and smoky, summer vibe. Same vibe I felt...I love it HOT sample/beat and song This could shape up to be the hottest single he's released thus far, although I liked both Through the Wire and All Falls Down ALOT. I also really liked Jesus Walks alot but something about the first two got me.

I dont get the same vibe as "Breathe", this is more dark and smokey while "Breathe" was slightly more of an uptempo.
They are playing Diamonds on z103 Pump it or Dump it right now...but the DJ said "the label is calling this the street single", so...
Does anyone know if this is officially the first single off Late Registration? or a street single/buzz song before the single?
If it blows up at radio I can't see how they wouldn't make it the 1st single

Diamonds is hot to def. What are you people talkin about ?? I dunno what everyone else is listening to but this song is so good especially the lyrics. Kayne keeps it real on every track he puts out. He has really stepped his game up musically and lyrically. I cant wait until the album drops. Kayne is the Future.

Great song! Seems original, not like any other rap songs I've heard. Chorus captures you and keeps you listening. Def a hit.

Pitchfork:
3 Stars
Kanye West: "Diamonds" genre: hip-hop
Taking a page from the DeBeers notebook, Kanye's kead single from his forthcoming Late Registration boasts one of the most compelling hooks this side of '05: Shirley Bassey's "Diamonds Are Forever" vocal refreaked into a haunting, lugubrious epic. Think montage from a spy movie when they're highlighting all the cool weaponry on the utility belt.
It's too bad Kanye's flippancy belittles the cut's intensity. "Diamonds" is easily the darkest, most intriguing beat Kanye's dropped in a minute. But Kanye oddly chooses to pun on chicks named Portia and regurgitate more listless braggadocio about how he's hip-hop's new superstar. Blah blah blah.
Remember how Nina Simone's vocals on the Kanye-produced "Get By" matched Kweli's urgency? No doubt. But Kon's more interested in turning a phrase than turning an idea. So "Diamonds" isn't really about anything. And though he revisits some the deeply personal and often contradictory themes from The College Dropout (e.g. segueing a verse on getting head with an experience with the Holy Spirit), the whole Kanye-as-rap's-enigma shtick is getting old. Kanye West Shooting 'Diamonds' Video In 'Pray-Goo'
Diamond-toothed MC shooting black-and-white clip in Czech capital.
NEW YORK — Miami, L.A., Brazil ... it's all good, but MCs nowadays are looking to new corners of the globe for their videos. Ludacris just filmed his clip for "Pimpin' All Over the World" in South Africa, and on Monday, Kanye West took off for Prague, where he'll cut his "Diamonds" video with Hype Williams.
"I'm on my way to 'Pray-Goo,' the capital of the 'Shizeck' Republic," West joked, hours before boarding the plane in New York. Showing off his diamond-studded bottom teeth, West gave a straight answer when explaining why he's traveling so far to shoot a video.
"I'm really into architecture and art, period," he said. "You get the sculptures, the cathedrals, the stone floors. It gives you a timeless feel, and we're gonna shoot it in black and white. That look represented the music in 'Diamonds.' "
So what does "Diamonds" sound like? Try an inspired West workout.
"I try to make soundtracks," he explained. "You can hear 'Jesus Walks' if you just look at the ghetto and see somebody going through a hard time. ... [With] 'Diamonds,' I think about athletes running, I think about somebody boxing. ... I think about working out when it gets really hype, something that is the soundtrack to your life. I want you to remember '05 and remember a song 20 years from now.
"I really love the song a lot," he added about the ferocious "Diamonds." "Of course, I could've come with something that was more radio, but I wanted to give them 40 bars and express the musicality. This is how far music can go, this is how far you can take it and still get on the radio. So when [other rappers] are sitting down with their A&Rs, they can be like, 'Kanye's songs had 40 bars on it.' I love that song, I think it has a movement."
Kanye's Late Registration is due July 12 (see "Kanye, Jay-Z Give An Early Peek At West's Late Registration"). Guests include Jamie Foxx and violinist Miri Ben-Ari, who both also appeared on The College Dropout.

I thought this song was going to explode, but it's moving kind of slowly. Maybe the Shirley Bassey sample is turning these stations off.

Is this the 1st single or like a buzz/single single like Through The Wire was. It went for adds. If he starts calling it a hype single, it's because he thinks it's going to flop.
