No song IMO deserves 52 weeks on the Alternative chart. Heck, I think 40 weeks on the chart is too much. I think there's a fine line in which a song crosses from being popular to becoming nauseating, and that's when it's spending a hell of a long time inside the Top 10. I like some of these 52 weekers, but those songs, like "Savior", "Paralyzer" and "Feel Good Drag" just started becoming a nuisance at the time. But here are my rankings anyway: 1. Savior 2. Feel Good Drag 3. Uprising 4. The Kill ( Cody, it saddens me that you don't like this) 5. Paralyzer 6. Do I Wanna Know 7. Radioactive 8. Face Down 9. Pompeii 10. 1901 11. Safe and Sound 12. Animal 13. Out of My League 14. Sweater Weather 15. Trojans (How this boring piece of s**t spent so much time on the chart I'll never know)

the Baron Of Big Blue. If you have been paying attention to my posts on other threads, you'll notice I have expressed no love for the songs in the current Alt Top 10. All I said was I like the overall Active chart better than the songs in the Alt top 10, but I still prefer Indie Alt Rock. Read again, before you speak.

1. Do I Wanna Know? 2. Uprising 3. Pompeii 4. 1901 5. Trojans 6. The Kill 7. Feel Good Drag 8. Savior 9. Radioactive 10. Sweater Weather 11. Animal 12. Safe and Sound 13. Face Down 14. Out of My League 15. Paralyzer
Truth be told, most of these are in good-but-not-great territory for me. The first four are the only ones I really like, though I don't outright dislike any of them. And I don't think any song deserves 52 weeks on the chart anyhow.

Alright. I'm not going to grade these songs, I'm just going to rant about all of them.
1. "Riptide" sucks. It's just so damn boring. The only catchy part is in the bridge, and the rest is unmemorable schlock. How the hell did this make it to #1? It's nothing special, really, just generic indie-folk. C+
2. "Stolen Dance" sucks. The verses are horrid, the lead singer sounds completely drunk and slurs all of his words. This and "Riptide" are practically twins as far as boring indie-folk goes. This is probably going to be the next #1, but I just don't want Riptide to be #1 again. Ugh. C+
3. "Dangerous" is one of the better songs of the year. It sounds great on the radio, but not as much out of the computer. B+

My ratings havn't changed, but I'll just rate the new debuts. Mainstream Rock Chart
– – 21 | The Devil In I, Slipknot | 1 B+(could become an A in weeks to come) Alot more radio Freindly than "the negative One' I have high hopes for this one.
New - 29 | Wrong Side Of Heaven, Five Finger Death Punch | 1 D Can't get past this guy's vocals. Sorry.
New - 33 | Beautiful, Pop Evil | 1 C Not nearly as great as "Torn To Pieces" I'll give it C for the semi catchy chorus, which is the only part I like.
New - 40 | Cold Summer, Fuel | 1 B+ A great video helps out an allready good song that grows on me with each listen. This is more like the Fuel I remember.
Alternative Rock Chart
Hot Shot Debut 34 | Fools Gold, Fitz And The Tantrums | 1 A+ I've been listeing to this for a while now. Anything Fitz is Gold. This one has a cool Hall & Oates vibe.
New - 37 | Cigarette Daydreams, Cage The Elephant | 1 B I've enjoyed all singles from thier new album so far. I hope it goes top 10.
New - 40 | Mother & Father, Broods | 1 A I really love this song! It has everything I love about alterntaive. Catchy Ass chorus, some synths and great vocal work.

- - 21| The Devil In I, Slipknot | 1 B- I wanted the new Slipknot song, not the 4th single from The House of Gold and Bones New - 29 | Wrong Side Of Heaven, Five Finger Death Punch | 1 C+ House of the Rising Sun burned out fast, and this is just drivel. New - 33 | Beautiful, Pop Evil | 1 C+ So fucking generic. New - 40 | Cold Summer, Fuel | 1 B+ The best of the debuts this week, lovin' this.
Hot Shot Debut 34 | Fools Gold, Fitz And The Tantrums | 1 A- One of the best songs on their album, glad this was a single choice. New - 37 | Cigarette Daydreams, Cage The Elephant | 1 B- Not really feeling this one. New - 40 | Mother & Father, Broods | 1 D+ What the fuck is this shit?

---Songs I Love--- 1. The Kill 2. Radioactive 3. Do I Wanna Know? 4. Out Of My League 5. Savior ---Songs I Like--- 6. Face Down 7. Safe and Sound 8. Pompeii 9. Trojans 10. Feel Good Drag 11. Paralyzer 12. Sweater Weather 13. Animal ---Songs I Don't Like--- 14. Uprising(Even though Muse is one of my favorite bands, The Resistance was an embarrassment & this overplayed single was a testament to that. 15. 1901
- - 21| The Devil In I, Slipknot | 1 B So what if it's a Stone Sour song? I kinda like Stone Sour New - 29 | Wrong Side Of Heaven, Five Finger Death Punch | 1 C Better than House of the Rising Sun, in fact best single from the era. But FFDP have really lost their edge. New - 33 | Beautiful, Pop Evil | 1 C- Fucking yawn, worst single from this era. New - 40 | Cold Summer, Fuel | 1 C Generic Fuel, generic song.
Hot Shot Debut 34 | Fools Gold, Fitz And The Tantrums | 1 B+ This is growing on me and I really like it, very catchy. New - 37 | Cigarette Daydreams, Cage The Elephant | 1 B+ So upbeat and fun. I don't get the love that radio has for songs like Riptide and Stolen Dance. There's just nothing there. It's beyond not catchy, it's virtually nonexistent. I don't need music to be heavy or dark or deep or complex (although there are plenty of songs I enjoy in all those categories), but the current top 2 and some other recent alt hits (The Neighborhood's two big singles come to mind - instant station-changers for me) just don't have anything in either substance or style. Instantly forgettable. I'd grade them a D and a D- respectively.
I'm not really a big fan of most of the top 10 right now. However, I do dig Dangerous, and I'm glad that it got its (brief) time at the top. Sweet bass line and non-annoying vocals. B.
I've barely listened to My Sweet Summer, due to my distaste of Dirty Heads and their ilk (I lump them together with Sublime and 311 in my mind). I can't accurately judge the song, though I'd likely put it in the D range.
Coldplay's always content to be mediocre but listenable, with a few glimmers of brightness here and there (like Violet Hill). A Sky Full of Stars certainly does not rise above the mediocre. Same old bland Coldplay, somehow even poppier than usual. C-. (Note that "poppy" isn't really an insult here, but in my eyes Coldplay does better when there's even the slightest bit of meat behind it. A Sky Full of Stars just is so feather-light that I can't get into it in the slightest.)
Weezer's been essentially dead to me since Beverly Hills dug its nails into my ears. (I did enjoy Pork and Beans - partially because of its video - but that's not even on the same level as some songs from Green Album or Maladroit.) I've only heard Back to the Shack a little bit, but it hasn't done anything to distinguish itself from the rest of the post-giving-up Weezer output except for the heavy-for-current-alternative-radio intro guitar work tricking me into thinking I'll be listening to something more worthwhile. C-.
I can't listen to alt-J for long, and Left Hand Free is no different. That voice is so grating, the music so sloppy, and the lyrics aren't anything special. Not as bad as, say, Tesselate, but still pretty bad, giving it a D.
Fever is not going to go down in the record books as a great Black Keys song. It's fine, it's got a good synth riff, but despite being #1 for so long, I doubt it'll be remembered in 5 years as being a big song for them, just a B- if anyone remembers it.
I heard Take Me To Church on the radio once last week, and I was struck with how bad it was. How could something so hard to listen to be getting airplay? The music is atrocious, and the lyrics are one long tortured metaphor that stopped being cute after about two seconds. Despite some venerable competition, this is my least favorite song in the top 10, getting the only solid F in the list.
I'm surprised Bad Blood is still kicking around the top 10 - I feel like it's been there forever without ever getting massive traction. Pompeii connects so quickly with the listener, but Bad Blood, while decent enough, only suffers in comparison. B-.
Leaving the top 10, Come With Me Now is loads of fun, and the only accordion-filled alt top 5 song I know of. (They Might Be Giants' sole top 5 hit, Birdhouse In Your Soul, didn't feature accordion, and Weird Al's accordion-y stuff would never get up that high.) It's got energy, it's got dynamic variation, and it's got good sing-along quality. I don't feel bad giving this an A-.
I never really knew Arctic Monkeys stuff before their most recent album, but Do I Wanna Know? is a worthy chart-topper. Mellow without being sedated, with relatable lyrics delivered in an intriguingly irregular meter and a good hook, an A- in my book. It's a shame that Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High? didn't get more traction, and I don't know the status of R U Mine?, but I do like how all their singles' titles on this album are questions!
Rise Against always has a great sound, and I Don't Want To Be Here Anymore is no exception. Just what I want from them, and a shame this is struggling to get higher than it is. B+ here.
I Wanna Get Better is poppy, sure, but it's done well. I'm a big fan of fun's "Some Nights" album, and this fits right in, with a sound reminiscent of the more upbeat parts of that album and the lyrics full of that same "I did things I wasn't happy with, but what's done is done" feel you'll hear in Carry On and Some Nights. It's missing Nate's distinctive voice, but Bleachers did good stuff here, with an A-.
Flaws... I don't expect greatness from this one. Bad Blood outclasses this as much as Pompeii outclasses Bad Blood. C.
I don't know all of the songs below #15, but I'm pulling for Tongues and I'm Only Joking, while lamenting that Lazaretto's chances at top 5 are long over and that Thirty Seconds to Mars isn't what it used to be.

Now we get to see if "R U Mine?" can also peak and finish its run while Do I Wanna Know? sticks around for another two years on the chart.

Now we get to see if "R U Mine?" can also peak and finish its run while Do I Wanna Know? sticks around for another two years on the chart. LOL, I can see that happening. If "R U Mine?" has the standard 20 week chart run, that'll put "Do I Wanna Know?" at 74 weeks - it will eventually climb back up to like #5 or something. It could beat "Savior"'s record! (Might as well go for it, it just passed "Uprising".)

All the Monkeys' albums are good to great imo, though the debut still remains my favorite (followed by AM, Favourite Worst Nightmare, Humbug, then Suck It and See).
