^ I'm not hating on the video, in fact I find it one of her best.....simple, creative.
I was just pointing to the fact that, they tried so hard for her past 2 singles (with the new hardcore image and all) and failed.... then they went back to Rihanna we all know and love.... and bingo.

Unfortunately, the same goes for Taio Cruz last week. It just sucks that Lady A who worked so hard for it and waited patiently has to be THE ONE who misses out - why couldn't Rihanna have missed out, she's already had a bunch of #1's... or Taio Cruz even? It's always the one act I want to see do so well that has to be the one that misses out.

The video was released so early on into the song's chart-run (literally, at the beginning) that there's no real way of determining whether or not the video made the song a hit. Personally, I think the song itself was going to be a big hit regardless of the video. It's certainly not a situation where one could say, without the video, the song wouldn't have been successful. |

I see nothing wrong with that. It's already bigger than several #1's of this year, and at the end that's what matters. Peaks are just about timing, not about being really huge. See 'Crack a Bottle', that one made it to #1 and then quickly faded into oblivion. 'You Belong With Me' only made it to #2 for a week and it was easily bigger than '...Bottle'. Plus, NYN made it to #1 on airplay: Congrats RiRi! I really like that song and it was about time for her to get a new #1 after the so-so start of this era. |

Like "Need You Now," Lonestar's "Amazed" peaked at country radio before crossing over to other formats (though country radio still gives NYN a lot of play). Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me" looks to be the most recent hit to climb/be near its peak at both the country and non-country formats simultaneously (didn't hit #1 on the Hot 100, just using it as an example of what I mentioned, which is rare).

Lady Antebellum will just have to comfort themselves with having huge massive sales, almost a guaranteed best selling album of the year, and massive multi-format success  (In other words, I think people place too much importance on hot 100 #1s sometimes-sometimes I think the overall success of the artist and cd matter more than snagging one week at #1) |

Yeah, people place too much emphasis on the Hot 100 for whatever purposes. Lady Antebellum has a Platinum #1 album and #2 Hot 100 hit, while artists like Jay Sean and Jason Derulo have one week wonder #1 songs and terrible album sales. I think I would rather be in Lady A's position for sure. Besides some of the hits that never hit #1 are either bigger than some of these #1 hits or more memorable. Positions aren't always important.
