No one claimed a label wouldn't hold hope for a boost when deciding to re-release a project. We are simply saying that re-releases do not guarantee extended success. Just like a regular release, they're hit or miss. Essentially, I don't see a re-release as "the easy way out" or "cheating".
But you are telling me something I already know. WHen I originally posted I cited examples of "tools" used by artist (double singles/re-releases). I wasn't referring to my opinion for or against it and then you went into this tangent on your views. I am aware of the hit or miss results.
Eh, labels push re-releases for many different reasons; it's not always due to a project failing to meet expectations. Take The Emancipation Of Mimi or Fearless for example. The original editions were already performing phonemically before their re-release. Sometimes, re-releases are approached to simply maximize potential.[/quote]
Good examples:
Mimi's album imo was re-released because they wanted her to sell more. She sold well already but they wanted to secure that #1 album spot...which they only did for the full album year not the Billboard Year (50 cent ) That was their plan. Sucks because it was her year and 50 released his in Feb where she released in April With that, 50 is an example of re-releasing to secure the #1 spot that he received.
Same could be said for Fearless. They were looking for the sales they received. It worked out quite well. Her sales for that album surpassed her previous which is very uncommon nowadays.
Confession is an example as well. They wanted that album to go diamond and without a re-release it might not have happened
That said, if they promoted an album to have a certain success that it is not having regardless of whether it is technically successful they opt for a re-release to get it to where they projected or wanted it to be. Seems logical. But yeah, you obviously have strong feelings about the support/h88te against re-release to turn an example I cited into a forum.
It's all good...you make some good points ;).
I hope with Rude boy hitting #1 that they don't go with having another album out soon. They need to at least release a 4th and 5th single this year.
