This week, a record total of 25 extra songs were played! Usually, it's 22 or 23, but I know that they've never done 25 of them (must have been a few songs with playing times of less than three minutes - with all the early 70s songs played, it's very likely). However, I did NOT need to hear "I Love You Always Forever" by Donna Lewis for the umpteenth time! So I had bullets between my teeth for about four minutes. ;)
The Spotlight was quite interesting. A few weeks back, they did sister acts, now it's brother acts. A few of the bands I had no idea contained brothers, such as bands that have been around forever, such as Styx, Earth Wind & Fire and the Beach Boys, as well as newer groups, like 98 Degrees, though I would have rather heard "The Hardest Thing", which was a bigger hit at AC radio anyway, than "Because Of You". I find that song quite irritating, especially those whistling pops, during the chorus. Also, I was surprised that they played "Heaven" by Los Lonely Boys. Five current songs within an hour? I sure hope no AT10 affilliate was upset about that! ;)
Only one Long Distance Dedication again this week. When they said it was by a 32-year old man in Indiana, I began to wonder. Since Indiana is where I'm from, and I'm 32, I figured that maybe they'd read my dedication. However, I didn't stop to think about a few things. How would they know how old I was or what state I was from? Needless to say, it wasn't my dedication, but the song they selected was a great one, "Now And Forever" by Richard Marx. I haven't heard that song for a darn long time! And it was #1 for the year of 1994. On the Hot AC show, they played "I'll Stand By You" by the Pretenders. "Now And Forever", as I recall, was a pretty big hit on the HAC chart in 1994, so why didn't they play it? (I have a feeling that the Richard Marx song was the one requested, since they've played "I'll Stand By You" has been played on the AC show plenty of times).
As I speculated last week, the huge resurge of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" was merely a fluke. It falls back to #4 this week, and might fall even more if "This Love" is strong enough. I sure hope "Drift Away" doesn't move back off. That song has more than served its purpose.
Well, that's about all for this week's show. I wonder what next week's show be like? What could the Spotlight possibly be? Probably not year-end AC #1s of the 1990s, since they played one of them this week, the Richard Marx song. We'll have to wait and see.
