The new Katie Melua single "The Flood" is being released in the UK on May 17th, followed by her fourth studio album The House on May 24th. Produced by William Orbit (Madonna's Ray of Light album), this is a new musical direction for Melua. While the new single is very much her, she's taking a risk and trying something different which I applaud. "The Flood" was written by Katie, Guy Chambers and Lauren Christy.
From the press release:
‘The Flood’ was one of the songs Katie sent to William Orbit that enticed him out of his self-imposed retirement as a producer: "I was captivated by Katie’s voice when I first heard her demos in October last year and, although not having been involved in record production for some time, felt that I just had to work with her." recalls William. "It turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and a pleasure from start to finish. I have been hypnotised by the many colours and moods of her voice, and the deep emotional waters of her lyrics and melodies. She is one of the most complex and intriguing artists that I have ever worked with."

Included in the clip is Melua filming the video for "The Flood" which looks AMAZING.
Katie Melua is one of my FAVORITE UK artists and has been since she released "The Closest Thing To Crazy" back in 2003. Born in Georgia (the country) and raised in the UK Melua is only 25 years old but still manages to sell out arena tours in the UK and throughout Europe. I was fortunate enough to see her play an intimate gig here in Cambridge, MA. AMAZING live. Beautiful voice. Check her out if she can! She has a big European tour coming up and hopefully she'll be in the U.S. after that. The House comes out stateside on August 2nd.
With the single release coming closer, a promo has surfaced featuring some remixes by Danny Kirsch. I'm VERY excited about this project.
Track listing:
1. Danny Kirsch Remix
2. Danny Kirsch Dub
3. Danny Kirsch Instrumental
4. Danny Kirsch Radio Edit
5. Radio Edit
